China and Western countries have something different in cultures about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have the same idea—pigs are ugly, lazy and stupid.
Just look at some Chinese sayings such as "Boiling a dead pig" and "A pig looking in the mirror is still a pig". And in English, there are some expressions like "Eating like a pig" and "Pigs might fly". None of them are complimentary.
However, pigs have some good qualities (品质). They are even as smart as dogs and elephants. They have good memories. And they know whether people treat them well or not.
A UK cartoon, Peppa Pig is a most popular cartoon. The four members in the pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship and the value of family. And a Chinese cartoon movie, The Adventures of McDull, is also very famous. In the cartoon, the little pig, McDull, has a heart of gold and always works hard towards his dreams. Most people want quick success, but McDull is slow and patient, and not afraid of failing again and again.
Maybe when we talk about pigs next time, we should think of their good qualities.
Why are your study habits different from those of your friends? Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while more slowly in others? One reason you may not know is that people have different learning types. Scientists say there are three different learning types: Visual, Auditory(听觉型) and Kin esthetic(动觉型).
Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表) and videos, you are probably a visual learner. You are not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind. You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.
Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it's the easiest way for you to learn. Sometimes you may find that taking notes stops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you remember or borrow your friends' notes to copy.
Kin esthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a kin esthetic learner. Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it. Of course, you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.
Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.
A long time ago, there was a king who liked music so much that he ordered his men to get him the best instrument in the world.
One day, a young man offered the king a harp (竖琴). The king took it to the palace, but when he started playing it, the harp was out of tune.
Many other musicians tried it, and they agreed that the harp was useless(没用的) and the king had been cheated. The harp was thrown out as rubbish.
A poor little girl later found the harp. And even though she did not know how to play, she decided to have a try. She played and played, for months and years, always with the harp out of tune, but she played better and better.
Then one day, suddenly, the harp began to play the most beautiful music. It was a magic harp, and could only be played well by someone willing to spend much time practicing.
One day, the king heard the music from his window, and the girl was invited to the palace. When the king saw the girl playing the harp, he was full of joy. At that moment he made the girl his private musician, giving her and her family lots of money.
Why is music so important to children? Here are some of my thoughts on the subject.
Music has a positive(积极的) effect on young children's development!
New research shows that music has a good influence on young children's cognitive(认知的) skills, such as spatial reasoning(空间推理) and memory. Research also shows that offering children an interesting environment can support children's healthy growth and development.
Young children enjoy making music with others!
Making music with others gives children a wonderful feeling of belonging to the group. Children might have difficulty joining in activities with others because they are shy, have limited language ability or special needs, but they can freely take part in a music activity.
Music makes young children happy!
Children seem to experience much pleasure and joy when listening to music, making music and dancing to music. Whether they are singing along to a CD, playing an instrument or dancing to music around the classroom, most children seem to thoroughly(彻底地) enjoy participating in a music activity. How wonderful it is to offer children the chance to do some activities about music!
When I was about six years old, I was sure that space aliens had entered my bedroom. One peaceful night, I was in bed, trying to sleep. Suddenly, I heard strange voices whispering(低语) near my bed. I shouted for my parents right away. We looked everywhere but couldn't find anything. I tried to go back to sleep, but the whispering began again. I don't know how many times my parents came to my bedroom that night. I only remembered that none of us could sleep well because of the voices. As a result, I was late for school the next morning.
"There must be someone hiding in my bedroom, perhaps an alien!" I thought to myself.
The next night, the same whispering sound came again. Although I was scared, I decided to find the "alien". I searched every corner of my bedroom carefully. Finally, I found it. However, it wasn't the alien that I expected, but an old broken radio in my bookcase. The radio suddenly began to work and the voices came from it.
Even so, that experience helped me to create a lifelong interest in UFOs and aliens.
When I was in Grade 5, astronauts were being sent into space for the first time. I would look out of my bedroom's window and search the sky for UFOs. I never saw one, but I did see lots of stars. They were really beautiful and amazing, and maybe the aliens would agree with me.
Sometimes business can take you out of your home country. That means you have to communicate with people from other cultures. So it's important to1some international customs. Here are some special2customs.
In France, if you don't speak French, that's OK, but you are3to say sorry for you can't communicate easily first. If you don't have time to learn French before doing business there, learning a few phrases or greetings can serve as a4of good faith (诚意). Also, be prepared for5meals in France. Lunch can last up to two hours long.
Change your6to a little earlier when doing business in Australia. Being on time is very important when meeting to discuss business. If you're not going to be7on time, then you should arrive a bit early. It's quite impolite to be late.
While the business8hasn't been so important in the US, that is far from the9in Japan. When doing business with the Japanese, you should carry lots of business cards, which should be printed in both English and 10. The business card is held in very high regard in Japan. When giving your cards to others, you must pass them out11both hands, with the Japanese side facing up. When receiving a business card, you should accept12with both hands.13, the business card should never be written on or played with during the meeting, as both are signs of disrespect.
Left-handers (左撇子) may have some14doing business in the United Arab Emirates. In Middle Eastern countries, the left hand is considered15. It is important to eat, shake hands and pass things with the right hand only. Using the left hand to do any of those activities is a serious insult (侮辱) .
While many people go out to spend their weekends, I pto stay at home to enjoy music. After a long week at work, I'm too tired tthink. I just soff my brain and sit back to enjoy slow and soft music. The smooth music often(make) me forget where I am.
As a music lover, I don't sto a kind of music. I like different kinds, (especial) the ones that are played by erhu. I like the music named Moon Reflected on Second Spring best. While listening to it, I can sense the (sad) and pain of Abing—one of the most famous erhu(master) in China. It can also recall my wounds from my own(pain) experiences, then I can't help crying awith it.
