Here are some postcards from Ben, Selina and Wendy about their summer vacation.
A frog lived in a small well(井). He said to a turtle(乌龟) who lived in the East Sea, "I am so happy! When I go out, I jump out of the well. When I come home, I rest in the holes on the broken wall of the well. If I walk in the mud(泥土), it will cover up my feet. I look around here, and no one can compare with me. I am the owner of this well. My dear sir, why don't you come over and look around my place?"
Then the turtle told the frog about the East Sea.
"You have no idea how large and how deep the sea is. In the past thousands of years, there were floods(洪水)for many years, the water in the sea didn't become less. The sea does not change with time and it does not rise or fall as the rain falls, either. The greatest happiness is to live in the East Sea."
There is always someone better than you; there is always something greater than you know. So everyone should be humble.
Many people enjoy biking. But there is a lot to think about before you buy a bike. There are many kinds of bicycles to choose from. And it is good to ask an expert before you buy a bike。
Different bicycles are designed to do different things. Some of them are made to be ridden on smooth roads. Others are designed to be ridden on. Rocky roads, and some bikes can be ridden on both.
If you want a bike, you need to get the right kind of bike. First, ask yourself where you plan to ride it? On city streets? On mountain trails? Or both? Choose the bike for your needs.
Next, be sure you get the right size of bike for yourself. Professional bicycle stores will take time to measure (测量) each customer. Then they put the measurements in a computer. The computer will suggest a good size.
Besides the kind of bike and size, you also need the right fit. This means you need to choose things like handlebars and a seat.
Finally you need to know how to ride your bike. You need to sit the right way, and position(放置) your body correctly. You should be comfortable when riding. A professional shop assistant in a bike store can help you with these things. Then you will be ready to hit the road.
One day, Tom's teacher, Miss Mak, held a class meeting. "There will be a flag day next Saturday. Does anyone want to join this meaningful event (活动)?" asked Miss Mak. Tom was interested in raising money for homeless children, but he was not brave enough to talk to the strangers, so he kept quiet in his seat.
"Tom, you haven't sold flags before," said Miss Mak suddenly. "Would you like to have a try?" Tom was hesitant (犹豫的), but he finally nodded(点头).
On the flag day, Tom and Angela sold flags in a busy street. "Excuse me. Could y-o-u pl-ea-se buy…?" said Angela softly to the first person she met. The man smiled and put a five-dollar coin into Angela's collection bag. Then she said thanks and put a flag under his shoulder. "I did it!" said Angela happily. "It's your turn now."
Feeling nervous, Tom began to shake. Soon, he saw a young lady walking towards him. The lady was smiling and holding a few coins in her hand. She asked, "Are you selling flags for Fund for the Homeless Children?" Tom's face became red and said yes. Then the lady made the donation (捐赠) and Tom gave her a flag. "You made it!" laughed Angela.
In the next couple of hours, Angela and Tom sold flags quickly and bravely. At last, their collection bags were so heavy that they had to hold them with both arms. They felt very proud.

Many kinds of birds live in the United States, but the number of the birds is becoming smaller every year. One of the leading reasons is the growing number of pet cats. By keeping your pet cats in your home, you can help give birds a better possible chance to live.
⑵
Of the 90 million pet cats in this country, about two-thirds are allowed to go outside. It is said that these cats kill hundreds of millions of birds each year as well as billions of small animals such as rabbits and field mice.
⑶
They can also bring illness to the animals that live in people's yard, and further weakening(变弱)the health of the natural populations.
⑷
Allowing pet cats to go outside is not just bad for birds and wildlife(野生动物). It is bad for the cats themselves, too. Outdoor cats can get sick very easily. They may be in danger from traffic and attacks(攻击) from other animals. In fact, outdoor cats usually don't pass the age of five, while indoor cats often live to be 17 or older.
⑸
Keep your pet cat inside! If you raise a young cat, it's your duty to let it play inside.
A. You should let your cat inside. B. Going outside is bad for cats, too. C. Keeping a cat is good for you. D. The birds are fewer and fewer in America. E. Cats can bring illness. F. Cats kill many birds and small animals every year. |
A young man found some water when walking in the desert(沙漠). The water was so 1 that he brought a leather(皮革的) bag of it back to his teacher.
After a four-day2, he gave the water to his teacher. The teacher took a big drink, smiled and3 his student for the good water. The young man was4 and went back home.
Later, the teacher let5 student taste the water. But the student spat(吐) it out, 6 it was too bad. It was clear that the leather bag made it get so7.
The student asked his teacher, "Sir, the water is smelly(发臭的).8 do you seem to like it very much?" "You only9 the water," the teacher said. "I tasted the gift. In the water is love and10 could be better than it."
Do you think you can understand this11? Something cheap or expensive may make us enjoy and thank young children when we get gifts of love from them,12 we love the idea after the gift more.
13, some people only like a gift itself. Gratitude(感激) doesn't always come14 an easy way. We should tell ourselves how to show thanks and teach our children about how15 the gratitude is. After all, gifts from the heart are real gifts.
A train was on the way to Cheekyville. There was a man sitting in one of the(seat). He was William and he looked very different. When he talked with others. he did it by singing. If he said “good day to you”, He would sing, “Gooood dayyyy to youuuu!”
William lived in Cheekyville for some years. Every time people saw him, they thought William hadpoor talent for language. It was because no one could get a normal word from him. However, those people changed(they) ideas one day when they saw William act in a very important opera.
Many people came to the (big)city of the country, and they all thought William was (talented) than any other performer. At the end of it, a reporter asked William a question, he didn't sing this time. He spoke (clear). Everyone in Cheekyville couldn't believe they heard.
From that day on, William didn't sing. People in Cheekyville had no idea about it.
In fact, William was interested singing in opera, So he practiced every minute (wait) for the show. And in the end, he made it.
