Medical experts say most Americans do not get enough sleep. They say more Americans need to take a nap—that is to rest for a short period in the middle of the day. They give people advice to sleep lightly before continuing with other activities. The experts say naps might improve health by reducing pressure.
Some European and Latin American companies have supported the idea of napping for many years. They ask people to leave work, go home and have a nap before returning. In the United States, some companies let workers rest simply in their offices. They believe this can help workers make fewer mistakes and also increase the amount of work that a person can do.
Sleep experts say it is likely that people make more mistakes at work than at other times. They say people should not carry out important tasks when they feel sleepy. And they say the best thing to do is to take a nap. About twenty minutes of rest is all you need. Experts say this provides extra energy and can increase your effects until the end of the day. But experts said that a nap should last no more than twenty to thirty minutes. A longer nap will put the body into deep sleep and waking up will be difficult.
Jia Zuosheng, 27, used to work as a security guard (保安) at the library of Tsinghua University. But a few months ago, he became a college student in Lishan College in Shandong and he studies math there now. When hearing this news, many people were surprised. On school opening day, many reporters waited outside the school gate to interview him.
"I was born in a poor village in Shandong Province," said Jia. "Our village has never had a college student. Most boys work in town after growing up. I failed the National College Entrance Exam (高考) twice. Then I want to Beijing to find jobs. In the following years, I went on studying by myself while working."
At the end of 2009, Jia found a job as a security guard at the library of Tsinghua University. "I cherished (珍惜) the job very much because it gave me a good chance to read books," Jia said."I usually worked at night so I had plenty of time to study in the daytime." When he had problems that he couldn't work out, Jia asked the students at Tsinghua for help. "My dream is to be a college teacher. So I need further education. That's the reason why I took the National College Entrance Exam again," Jia said. "I wish to educate students with my knowledge and love and help them enjoy true, kind and beautiful things."
Jia's mother said Jia has always been independent (独立的) and knows what he wants. But she has other worries. "It's difficult to find such a good job at present as a library guard in Tsinghua University. I'm not sure if this is a right decision." "I will never regret (后悔)," said Jia. "Everyone will have a new start. It's the end, and the beginning."
Thanksgiving Day was near. A first grade teacher gave her class a fun task--to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.
Most of the students didn't come from rich families, but many would still celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional customs (习俗). These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of the students' art. And they were, for the most part.
But one student named Douglas drew a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was often sad. While other children would play with each other during break time, he would stand closely by his teacher's side. There was pain behind his sad eyes. But what was it? One could only guess.
Yes, his picture was different. He drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.
Other children started to guess whose hand it could be. One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because police keep people safe. And so the discussion went on.
Finally the teacher walked over to Douglas' desk, bent down and asked him whose hand it was.
The little boy looked away and said, "It's yours, teacher."
She recalled (回想起) the times when she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, and times when shed said things like "Take my hand Douglas, we'll go outside" or "Let me show you how to hold your pencil."
Douglas was most thankful for his teacher's hand.
We live with them, and grow up with them. And we often take their love for granted (认为…理所当然). They work hard, take us on exciting holidays, give us food, clothes and take good care of us no matter when and where we are. Besides we always make their living area noisy and dirty and expect that they always understand and love us! They are, of course, our parents.
It is certainly not easy to be young. However, many of the answers to these difficult problems can be found from our parents. They have already dealt with most of the problems we face. Also, the more we get to know our parents, the more we understand them, even when they are angry with us.
Take the time to share in your parents' lives: Go fishing with Dad, help Mom cook the evening meal, take walks with them after dinner and talk to them sincerely (真诚地). Often you will be surprised by what they will tell you. A. This will lead to a much better understanding and a deeper love.
A. So, start with these simple things B. So who are those wonderful people? C. However, we often shout at them. D. Parents are our closest family member. E. It is only because they really care for us. F. There are so many problems, and we have little experience to solve them. G. Have you ever done anything for your parents? |
I was running a few errands (差事)in my car the other day. The sun was out,the radio was playing a joyful song, I was singing along. Then it happened, however, The sweet sound of the music ended and the news break began.
I drove on while the news started. Gas prices were getting high again. The race for the presidency (总统大选) was getting much tighter. Fights broke out when the fans of a sports team went wild while celebrating their team's win.
Finally I could take no more and turned off the radio. Silence seemed preferable to listening to anything else about the crazy and competitive world others all the time we live in. I slowed down as I entered a local town and watched the people as I drove by.
A man was helping an elderly lady out of a car and helping her walk into a store. A smiling woman was feeding a dozen birds in her backyard。A young man was walking along ,carrying his 2-year-old daughter safely He tickled (胳肢) her gently when she pulled the hat off his head and they both laughed. I laughed too as I looked at all of this kindness. Although the music was off, I felt my heart singing.
In truth, this world could use a little more kindness and a lot less competition. Kindness makes us all winners in life and shows us that we don't have to beat others all the time.
Do you know how many bones are there in your body? When you were a baby you had about 330 bones, and now you have just over 200 bones. The number reduces because some bones join together as you grow. Your wonderful bones work together to protect you and support your body.
Many Uses
Many bones protect your body. For example, the bone that makes up your head is called the skull. The skull surrounds your brain and protects it, The ribs that cover your chest protect your heart and lungs.
Other bones are used to support the body. The many bones in your feet allow you to walk, and stand on your tiptoes. Your hands and feet have more than half of the bones in your body!
Biggest Bone
The longest and strongest bone in your body is in your leg. It is called the femur and it goes from your hip to your knee, It is a very important bone because it carries all of your weight and helps you move from place to place.
Smallest Bone
Would you believe the smallest bone in your body is in your ear? It is about the size of a grain of rice and is called the stirrup, When sound waves come into your ear, the stirrup shakes back and forth, allowing the sound waves to reach your brain. When the waves reach your brain. you hear the sound.
Funny Bones
Hah! The funny bone isn't really a bone at all. It is actually a nerve (神经). When you hit the nerve that is near your elbow. it really hurts or tingles. What's so funny about that? The funny bone probably got its name from the bone that is above your elbow. That bone is called the humerus, which sounds like the word "humorous", meaning "funny"
The bones that make up our bodies help us grow, and allow us to move. When you think about them, our bones are really wonderful.
