On a farm lived a father and a son. The father always got up early and read books by the stove. One morning, the son came up to him and said, "Dad, I read books at night but forget most of them the next morning. What's the good of reading?"
The father didn't reply to his question at once. He passed him a basket that was used to carry coal. He said, "Get some water from the river with the basket and then I'll tell you the answer."
The son felt surprised but he did as his father said, He tried many times but every time the water leaked (漏掉) from the basket.
An hour later, the son came back with the empty basket and told his father it was impossible to hold water with the basket. The father said with a smile. "Yes, you are right, my son. The basket can't hold water. But did you notice the basket was different?" The son found the dirty basket had become clean. The father continued, "Reading is like holding water with the basket. Although we can't remember all we read, we have changed while reading."

The first time Xu Binghui donated (捐献) his blood was on his 18th birthday. He had waited for a long time to make his first blood donation, because people under 18 years old are not allowed to donate blood.
"My mother was badly ill when I was 8 years old. She lost her life because of the bad medical conditions," Xu said. He made up his mind to become a blood donor from then on, as he knew his donation might save someone else's life.
The 26-year-old has donated blood over 40 times since 2010. "I donate my blood every two weeks. Blood donation is good for my health," he said. Chen Dongsen, from Taiwan, is also a blood donor. He donated about 300 bags of blood while living in Taiwan. He has made 84 blood donations in Shenzhen since he moved here in 2013.
Chen is into running. He founded a running club in Shenzhen in 2015. Ever since then, he has been encouraging the club's members to donate blood. "Many people were worried in the beginning because they thought donating blood might influence their health," he said. "But I made them believe that blood donation was not only harmless but good for their health by serving as an example," Chen said.
Now in his 50s, Chen runs over 100 kilometers a week and donates blood every two weeks. Up till now, one—third of his running club's members have become blood donors by following his lead.

In the basketball world, Bryant ranks among the top players of all time. Fans remember him as the player who helped the Los Angeles Lakers win five NBA championships during his 20-year long career. He started out as a basketball prodigy (神童) who skipped (跳过) college and took his talents directly to the NBA. His deadly agility (敏捷) and aggressive tactics (进攻性的策略) earned him the nickname Black Mamba (黑曼巴). That's why his competitive philosophy (哲学) is known as the "Mamba Mentality". "Mamba Mentality is you're going, you're competing, you're not worried about the end result," Bryant said. "It's all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it matters most.
He was also known as a proud family man. His friend, baseball star Derek Jeter, remembered him as such in an essay: "Throughout our friendship, the most meaningful conversations we had they were always about family.
