It was a cold snowy morning after the winter vacation. And it was my first 1 at my new school. I was walking alone slowly and 2 about lots of things. It was early and there weren't many people on the road. Suddenly a girl who was 3 a bike on ice fell down. She was trying hard to get up but fell again. 4 thinking, I went over and helped her. She said “5” with a smile and then rode away. Her words warmed me a lot.
Finally, I got to school. The teacher led me to the 6 and introduced me to the class. Then he asked me to sit down beside a girl. I felt so 7 that I didn't dare to look at her. Soon the first class, 8, started. Their textbooks were different from those in my old school. As I was wondering 9 to do, an English book appeared in front of me. “Let's share,” the girl beside me said, “Hi, I'm Carrie.” I 10. It was the girl I helped this morning. Later on, we became good friends.
From that I learned: to help others is actually to help ourselves!
Let me tell you something about sharks. Sharks are among the oldest animals in the world. There are over three hundred and fifty different kinds of sharks in the world. Most sharks are about two meters long and live in the seas.
A shark can smell something in the water, for example, the blood of animals. That helps them find their food. Sharks mainly eat fish, other sharks and plants in the sea.
Most sharks bite people by mistake. They think a person is a large sea animal. When the sun goes down or comes up, sharks are looking for food. So at these times people shouldn't go swimming in the sea.
Today people kill sharks for food and their skin. The number of sharks in the world is dropping fast.
Humans can't stop natural disasters because we can't stop the power(力量) of nature.
For example, a flood comes when there is too much water on the land. Sometimes, it can come after a big rainstorm at sea. Then too much sea water comes onto the land. Fast moving flood can hurt us. It can also hurt our homes. We can't stop the water from coming, but we can try to stop the water by making a wall with sandbags. Sometimes, the sandbags help stop the water. Sometimes they don't.
An earthquake happens where land moves. The land goes up and down and all around. The land shakes. We may be hurt by things that fall down in an earthquake. Falling things can start fires. We can't stop an earthquake from coming. We can try to make our homes strong in order to prevent them from falling down in an earthquake.
A tornado(龙卷风) is fast air that goes around and around over the land. A tornado can pick up everything. It can break anything in the way. A typhoon is a big storm with fast moving wind and rain. It begins at sea and can come onto the land. Its fast winds can hurt us and our homes.
We can't stop the power of nature, but we can go to places where we will feel safe.

There is a little boy named Mark. He hopes he could fly like a bird. His parents tell him, “Dear, you can't fly.” “Why can't I? Some birds in the zoo are very big, but they can fly.” The boy can't understand.
There is another little boy named Barry. He is crippled(跛脚的). He wishes he could walk and run like other children.
“Why can't I walk or run like other children?” Barry asks his father. His father doesn't know what to say.
One day, the two boys meet in a park.
“Do you want to fly like a bird?” Mark asks Barry.
“No,” Barry says. “ I just wish I could walk and run like you.”
Mark thinks for a minute, walks to Barry's father and says something into his ear.
“That's OK,” says the father.
Mark goes to Barry and says, “Get onto my back. Let's run together.” Then Mark carries Barry and begins to run. He runs faster and faster. He runs across the park with Barry on his back. The crippled boy flaps(拍打) his arms up and down in the wind. He shouts at the top of his voice, “We're flying, Mark! We're flying!”
