Last Friday, I agreed to meet some friends at 6: 00 p. m. in a coffee shop. The weather was sunny, so I decided to walk there. I arrived ten minutes early. I ordered a cup of coffee and sat watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street, and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the road.
Suddenly (突然), there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked (刹车) hard. But it was too late. The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone's surprise, the car didn't stop. It drove away quickly.
People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy's head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner (主人) telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance (救护车) arrived and took the boy to the hospital.
At 6: 30 p. m. the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn't leave the police station until 8: 00 p. m. After that I went home because I didn't feel like talking to anyone.
The next day, the boy's parents called me to say thanks. They also told me their boy was fine and the driver was in the police station now.
"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. " This is an old English saying. It means that when we go to bed early, we can get up early the next morning. Then we will become healthy. We will also become rich and clever.
This is true. To keep healthy, we must have enough sleep. Experts (专家) say that adults should get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Teenagers need nine to ten hours. And schoolaged children may need more than ten hours of sleep. Children who do not have enough sleep can't do their work very well. They won't be wise and they may not become wealthy!
We also need exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps us strong. It also helps the blood to move around the body. This is very important. Our blood takes the nutrition (营养) from food to all parts of our body.
The head also needs blood. So exercise that moves the blood to our head helps us think better!
I was cycling (骑自行车) and saw a man about 250 meters in front of me. I could tell he was cycling slower than me and I decided to catch up with him and beat (打败) him.
I started cycling faster and faster. After a few minutes I was only about 100 meters behind him, so I tried harder. Finally, I caught up with him and passed him. I felt so good. I won, but he didn't even know we were racing.
After I passed him, I found that I had missed my turn.
Isn't it just like life? We often race against others, trying to beat them or show that we're more successful or more important. We spend so much time and energy (精力) running after them that we miss out on our own paths (小路).
The problem with unhealthy competition is that it's a neverending cycle. There will always be someone in front of you. What you should do is just run your own race and wish others well.
Some of my classmates said that they were busy going to school and doing their homework after school, and that they even couldn't play on weekends. They felt very tired and some of them even got sick. I'm busy, too, but still have time to relax and exercise. Do you know why? Making a plan helps me a lot. Every Sunday, I make plans for the next week. Now take my "Monday Plan" for example.

Donna Ashlock, a girl from California, was sick. She had heart disease. "Donna needs a new heart," her doctor said. "She must have a new heart, or she will die soon. "
Felipe Garza, 15 years old, was worried about Donna. Felipe was Donna's best friend. He cared about her health very much. Months ago, his doctor told him he was going to die because of his illness. So he decided to give his heart to Donna. He told his family about this, and they said nothing.
One night, Felipe went to bed and never woke up. His parents were very sad, but Felipe's mother remembered her son's words. So she told the doctors to give Felipe's heart to Donna. The operation(手术) was successful. Felipe's heart was beating in Donna's body. When Donna knew this, she was very thankful to Felipe and his family.
"Every time we see Donna, we think of Felipe. She has Felipe's heart. That makes us happy," Felipe's brother John said.
Felipe was a great boy. We should learn from him. If everyone is ready to help others, our world will be a better place.
A queen(女王) felt bored and said to her adviser(顾问), "All the things around me are too boring. I need a different kind of beauty. Let everyone know that I will have a competition for the most beautiful thing in the world. "
A few days later, lots of people came to the competition and showed their things. The queen was not satisfied (满意的) with those things. The adviser said, "You can try to look for it by yourself. What about a long trip?"
The queen was interested in the idea, so she started her trip at once. As she was on the top of the hill near her palace (宫殿), she looked down and suddenly something cried in her heart, "Why did I never find my palace so beautiful?"
The queen spent one year travelling. She saw beauty on the farm, in the forest and even in the sky during her trip. Suddenly, she knew beauty was everywhere. She should learn to enjoy the world.
