We've all been there: we go to the gym for a few days, and then we give in because it's too tiring. Even though you have great determination in the beginning, you find it difficult to make daily exercise a habit. So, how can you do it?
A. Plan the time
Take your day and break it into hours on a piece of paper. It's suggested by many experts that you exercise in the morning. Not only do you burn more calories at that time, but it will make you energetic.
B. Choose your exercise
What do you like to do? Whether it's swimming, running, cycling, or something else, find something you enjoy. If doing the same thing every day makes you bored, do something different. Change and make it fun!
C. Set your goal
What do you want to get out of this? Whatever it is, write it down. Put a note by your bed with that goal written on it to motivate you to get up in the morning and actually get out the door.
D. Stick to your plan
Once you decide that you're going to do something, stick to it. Don't think that it will be easy. If you can make it through the first few weeks then you're fast on your way to making exercise a habit.
What exactly does building a habit do for you? Most importantly, it makes exercise a priority (优先的事物) in your life. People who have a habit of exercising won't feel right if they don't get in their daily exercise time.
Everyone knows you must exercise regularly to keep good health. Indeed, staying physically fit is a big part of our culture. We consider (or rightly so) that healthy people are attractive people. Since most of us want to be attractive, there is no shortage of exercise clubs, training videos, magazines and books offering to help us stay physically fit.
Unfortunately, however, our culture doesn't place the same emphasis on mental fitness. Although we tend to like men and women with strong, healthy-looking bodies, we don't have the same degree of respect or attraction for smart, educated, mentally healthy people. This is a pity, because there are great rewards for people who have developed the ability to think well.
If your mind is well trained and flexible, you will be able to understand a great deal of what happens around you. And if you are also well educated-that is, if you understand basic science, mathematics, music, art, literature, history and so on—you will find it much easier to make good decisions throughout your life. Over the long run, this leads to a sense of control over your destiny (命运) and a much better life than otherwise (in another way).
People who are poorly educated or who don't think well—that is, people who are not mentally fit—see things differently. Their world is controlled by mysterious, often malevolent (恶意的) forces. Such people live within a system they will never master, forced to follow rules they will never understand. Although it may not be obvious, most spend their lives being manipulated (控制) by others. They are told what to do, what to think, how to spend their money, and what they should and should not aspire (渴望) to in life.
In my opinion, if you want to live well, you must be able to use your mind well. For this reason, I want you to be able to concentrate, to solve problems, to understand complex ideas, and to think clearly and quickly. Such skills will make it easier for you to make informed decisions, understand current events, choose good friends, manage your money well, make wise long-term decisions and appreciate music, art and literature.
The key to developing such skills is to enjoy learning, and to have the ability and motivation to teach yourself.
Robotic surgery is one thing, but sending a robot inside the body to carry out an operation is quite another, which has long been a goal of some researchers to produce tiny robotic devices being capable of traveling through the body to deliver drugs or to make repairs without the need for a single cut, the possibility of which has just got a bit closer.
However, unlike the plot of one film—which featured a microscopic crew and submarine traveling through a scientist's bloodstream—this device could not be put into blood vessels because it is too big. While other types of miniature swallow able robots have been developed in the past, their role has mostly been limited to capturing images inside the body. In a presentation this week to the International Conference, Daniela Rus and Shuhei Miyashita of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology described a robot they have developed that can be swallowed and used to collect dangerous objects accidentally taken in.
To test their latest version, Dr. Rus and Dr. Miyashita designed a robot as a battery hunter, which might seem to be an odd task, but more than 3,500 people in America alone, most of them children, swallow the tiny button cells used in small electronic devices by accident every year. To start with, the researchers created an artificial esophagus (食道) and stomach made out of silicone. It was closely modeled on that found in a pig and filled with medical liquid; the robot itself is made from several layers of different materials, including pig intestine (肠),and contains a little magnet. This is folded up and wrapped in a 10mmx27mm capsule of ice. Once this reaches the stomach, the ice melts and the robot unfolds which is moved and guided with the 1se of a magnetic field outside the body. In their tests, the robot was able to touch a button battery and draw it with its own magnet, and during dragging it along, the robot could then be directed towards the intestines where it would eventually be gotten rid of through the anus (肛门). After it, the researchers sent in another robot loaded with medication to deliver it to the site of the battery bum to speed up healing.
The artificial stomach being transparent (透明的) on one side, the researchers can see the batteries and visually control the robots. If not, that will require help with the help from imaging system, which will be a bit more of a challenge, but Dr. Rus and Dr. Miyashita are determined to succeed.
Having a great collection of books at home doesn't really mean that you are a person who has a passion for literature and reading. It can be a family inheritance (继承) or it can be just to impress people around you about the fact that you are a person of culture. On the other hand, there are many persons who cannot afford to buy books, because some of them are quite expensive, but they usually go to libraries and spend hours reading something that interests them a lot, or just borrow books to read at home.
From my point of view, literature is very important in our lives from several points of view. For example, reading is a means of gaining culture and enriching our knowledge in different areas of activities. It can help us have a great imagination and it makes things easier when it comes to making compositions on different themes. It gives you the possibility to speak about science, even if you don't work in this field, or you can express your opinion about a political aspect, just because you have read something connected to that.
Secondly, literature offers us the possibility to enter the world of imagination, and to leave apart the real one for a couple of hours. We come to meet kings and queens many years ago, dream in the world of the rich or imagine how life will be in the future. Sometimes, we identify ourselves with the characters in the stories we read and they can give us some clues to solve our problems and how to react in certain circumstances.
To conclude, I would like to say that literature is the perfect means to enrich our culture, to express correctly and have a rich vocabulary, to be able to interfere (干涉) in conversations in different fields of interest and to really be considered an erudite person.
Why play sports? You might say "to get exercise" and you'd be right. To have fun? That's true, too. But there's more. . According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls who play sports get a lot more than just fit.
Girls who play sports do better in school. You might think that playing sports will take up all your study time. . Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration (集中;专心), which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.
Girls who play sports learn teamwork and goal-setting skills. . When you work with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and achieve goals, you're learning how to be successful. Those skills will serve you well at work and in family life.
Sports are good for a girl's health. In addition to being fit and keeping a healthy weight, girls who play sports are also less likely to smoke. And later in life, girls who exercise are less likely to get osteoporosis(骨质疏松症).
Playing sports improves self-confidence. . Why? It builds confidence when you know you can practice, improve, and achieve your goals. Sports are also a feel-good activity because they help girls get in shape, keep a healthy weight, and make new friends.
. Playing sports can reduce pressure and help you feel a little happier. How? The brain chemicals released during exercise improve a person's mood. Friends are another mood-lifter. And being on a team creates tight bonds between friends. It's good to know your teammates will support you both on and off the field!
A. Exercise cuts the pressure.
B. Sports teach valuable life skills.
C. In fact, there are at least 5 more reasons.
D. Regular exercise increases quality of life.
E. Girls who play sports feel better about themselves.
F. Playing sports offers children more than just physical benefits.
G. But research shows that girls who play sports do better in school than those who don't.
I was 17 years old. Along with a dozen other boys I had made a long trip to Iowa in order to see a college that I was thinking of 1. While the trip had been 2 for the most part, now that I was there I was feeling depressed, alone, and isolated. I was missing my 3 and I was also missing the Appalachian mountains and the forests of my home. I loved 4 the leaves turned a thousand shades of green in the Spring and then 5 a sea of red, gold, and orange in the Fall.
Here in Iowa everything was 6. The grass looked burnt and brown. All that I could 7 was a mixture of corn, mud, and pigs. I walked outside the dormitory of the college and sat on an old stump. I closed my eyes and 8 being back home again. When I finally opened them, however, I saw something that touched my 9. It was a Prairie Sunset. It seemed to 10 the sky from horizon to horizon. Gold, red, purple and pink clouds all 11 together in a picture painted by Heaven's own hand. It was so huge that it took my breath away. It made our mountain sunsets seem 12 by comparison. I realized that this place too had its own special beauty. This place too was a part of nature's 13 .
Over the years to come I learned something else. Each of us has a special beauty 14 .
Each of us has our own 15 talents and abilities.
Why is pink or purple a color for girls and blue or brown for boys?
The answer depends largely cultural values as well as personal experiences. To the Egyptians, green was a color represented the hope and joy of spring, while for Muslims, it means heaven. Red is a symbol of good luck in many cultures. During the Spring Festival in China, children (give) money in a red envelope to bring good fortune in the New Year. For many nations, blue is a symbol of protection and religious beliefs. Greek people often wear a blue necklace hoping to protectagainst evils(灾祸).
People's (choose) of colors is also influenced by their bodies' reactions toward them. Green is said to be most restful color. It has the ability to reduce pain and relax people both mentallyphysically. People (work) in green environment have been found to have fewer stomach aches.
Red can cause a person's blood pressure to rise and increase people's appetites(食欲). Many decorators will include different shades of red in the restaurant. And many commercial websites will have a red "Buy Now" button because red is a color that (easy) catches a person's eye.
Blue is another calming color. Unlike red, blue is believed to cause people to lose appetite. So you want to eat less, some suggest that eating from blue plates can help.

The story between Mr. Jordan and me was the most amazing story I wanted to share. Mr. Jordan was one of the teachers who I would never forget.
When I was young at school, I loved talking, a characteristic not always appreciated by Mr. Jordan, my 10-grade English teacher.
Mr. Jordan was a teacher whom no one liked because he was too strict. He stood about 5-foot-five, was very thin and wore his hair pulled back in a way that gave him a horsy look. He wore those half-circular reading glasses. Whenever he got upset, he would lower his head and look at you over the top of his glasses.
One day in his class I was busy talking. I didn't realize he had stopped teaching and staring straight at me. "Sam, I would like to see you after school."
Later Mr. Jordan explained in a low, but very firm voice that showed he expected me to listen when he was talking. For punishment he told me to write a thousand-word essay on education and its effect on the society. He wanted it in by the following Wednesday.
Well, I met my deadline. I was confident. It was a good paper. And I expected a sign of approval from him. The next day in class, however, he was looking at me over his glasses. He called me forward and returned my paper. "Go back and rewrite," he said. "Remember, each paragraph is supported to begin with a topic sentence." When he gave my paper back a second time, he corrected the grammar. The third time, the spelling. The fourth time, it was punctuation. The fifth, it wasn't neat enough. I was sick!
The sixth time, I rewrote the whole paper slowly in ink, leaving generous space. When he saw it, he removed his glasses and smiled. He firmly accepted the paper. After that, I put the whole thing out of my mind.
