Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Rakesh, he studied and lived in a boarding school(寄宿学校). Every night he jumped over the wall and played outside. He 1 returned before dawn (黎明) and lay on his bed again, so no one knew that Rakesh went out at 2.
One night as usual, Rakesh found 3 asleep. He decided to play outside again. He went into his teacher—Mrs. Green's room 4 and saw her 5. Then Rakesh walked out towards the wall. Near the wall, there was a ladder in the bushes, he hid it there. He 6 the ladders and he climbed it up, then jumped over the wall. 7 at that time his teacher was awake and saw him going out.
8 got up and took away the 9 from the wall. A few hours 10, Rakesh returned. In the dark, he tried to climb 11 from the wall. Sadly, there was no ladder, instead, Mrs. Green was standing where the ladder was and waiting for him. Rakesh was very 12 to be punished (处罚), but to his surprise, she just helped Rakesh to get onto the ground , said, "Rakesh, at least 13 a warm coat with you, when you go out at night."
Mrs. Green's 14 made Rakesh know his own faults. He apologized (道歉) and never went out at night again. It is the 15 lesson that he has ever had.

A man bought a donkey (驴子) at the market one day and took him home. Now the man has owned several donkeys already and he knew them very well. One of the donkeys was very strong and brave, another was moody(喜怒无常的). One donkey was very lazy, he hated going to work in the morning and he did as little as he could all day long. When the other animals were being loaded(装载) up, he always tried to be the last so that he would get the lightest load.
The man took the new donkey into the yard. For a moment he stood there, looking at his new friends. Then, without thinking, he walked up to the lazy donkey and began eating comfortably at his side.
Though it was late in the day, the man immediately took the new donkey out of the yard, straight back to the market. "You cannot do like this," said the merchant (商人), "It is only ten minutes since you bought him."
"I don't need him any more," replied the man, "I know just what he is like from the friend he chose for himself. Take him away and give my money back. I don't need donkeys like him."

Almost every Chinese person can recite the two lines of the famous poem, "Every grain on the plate comes from hard work(谁知盘中餐,粒粒皆辛苦)." But sadly, many of us don't actually get the real meaning of these lines: Don't waste food.
A CCTV program, News One Plus One, reported that the food Chinese people throw away every year is much enough to feed 200 million people for a year.
Do we have too much food? Of course not. According to the UN World Food Program, there were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2013, especially in developing countries. Six million children die of hunger every year.
Chinese people are well known for being hospitable(好客的) and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food on the table.
Luckily, a number of people have realized the importance of saving food. Last November, Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Nanjing, got fired because she took some leftover(剩余的) food home for her son. Many people stood by her and criticized(批评) the waste of food.
What should we do in our daily lives to waste less food? Here are some tips:
1). Do not order too much in a restaurant. Only order as much as you want to eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.
2). Don't be too picky(挑剔的) about food. Some food may not taste great, but your body needs it.
3). Keep an eye on what food you have at home. Don't buy too much, especially for vegetables and fruit.

For many years, scientists have said that the earth is getting warmer. Now they have found something new—hot cities! In the southern US, they have found that cities become very hot in summer. For example, the city of Atlanta in Georgia has roof(屋顶) temperature of up to 50oC while it is 27℃ in the streets! At night, the outside of buildings stays so hot that the heat of the city causes storms over the city!
China also has the same kind of problems. Every year more farmland is used for factories or offices. More housing is needed, too. As people become richer, they buy more cars. New roads are needed and new car parks are built in the city centers. This all makes cities hotter.
It isn't easy to change the situation. City planners say that we should plant more trees in the middle of cities. Every new street should have trees on both sides, they say. Trees make the temperature lower, so we should have more trees in our parks and squares. We should also paint our roofs white. If we do this, they do not become so hot. Every roof in a hot and sunny country should have solar(太阳的) roof panels. The electricity from these can be used to run the air conditioners (空调)in the buildings.
People continue to cut down forests around the cities. This makes the problem worse. Cities are growing faster and faster. By the year 2025, four fifths(五分之四) of the population will be living in cities. If we go on like this, there will not be enough farmland to feed everyone in the world.
As you know, homework is a big part of going to school. Luckily, here are several suggestions for you to make homework easy.
Make a homework plan
Most middle school students have two or three hours of homework a night. If it is a heavy homework day, you may need to spend even more time. It is a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule(进度表), especially if you are going to do sports or other activities after school.
Watch where you work
A bedroom, study or any room where you can get away from noise is good for you to do your homework. But don't study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.
Take a break
Most people's attention (注意力) don't last very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive(多产的) than if you stop to take a break regularly. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good way for most people.
Get help when you need it
Sometimes even though you are listening carefully in class, some subjects seem too hard. The first person to ask for help is your teacher. He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. Your classmates may also be able to give you a hand. However, this might not give you the results you want. Lots of people understand something well but are not able to explain it.
