Well, I hope you'll win the top role in the school talent show this year.

Don't let me down!

How can you be sure that you know w you know? That may sound silly but it's really a serious question. Have you ever "thought" you knew something but when it came time to write in the exam you discovered that you r didn't "know" it, after all.
Strategies (策略) you can use
When that happens, it isn't because you have a bad memory, it's because the things you are trying to rhaven't been properly learned.
Luckily, there are strategies you can use to help you learn difficult things. And scientists say that there is even a part of your brain that can "predict" whether this new knowledge has been completely u.
Judgement of learning
Scientists call this predicting, the "judgement of learning". It really just means looking over your own shoulder w you are studying and asking yourself, "Do I really get this?" And if you don't, it means adjusting your "strategy" until you do.
Here's one strategy:
⒈Set a short-term goal to learn something.
⒉Study as you normally would.
⒊Answer some test questions to g some feedback.
⒋Use that feedback to work on your weak points.
In the driver's seat
Developing the ability to "judge" your own learning needs a lot of p. But it can be a very useful skill. It puts you in the driver's seat and in charge of your own studies. In effect, it lets you know that you really know what you think you know. You know?
Everyone is b with the ability to learn. But your learning habits help a lot. Research s that successful learners have some good habits in common. Here are some of t to help you learn wisely and learn well.
If you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also e for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something i. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get b.
Practice makes perfect. Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned, and they are not afraid of making m.
It is not eto just study hard. Good learners often a questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers.
Learning is a lifelong journey because every day b something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

The balalaika(巴拉莱卡)also called the "Russian guitar", is a (传统的)Russian musical instrument, It has a long neck, a wooden triangle-shaped body and strings(弦). It's usually used to play Russian music with (手指).
Russians like the balalaika. The music played with it can be cheerful, as if the farmers were (跳舞) happily to celebrate their harvest. It can also be
energetic, as if the workers were working hard to make their country (更强壮) and richer. If a Russian moves to live or work abroad. he will (正常情况下) take a balalaika with him. When he feels lonely and sad, he will play it to cheer himself up.
The balalaika was first played by the poor. At that time, balalaikas were (生产) by the players themselves. They were simple with different numbers of strings from two to even (六).Later a Russian musician, a (先驱者) Vasily improved the balalaika. He (创建)a whole family of balalaikas of different sizes, all with three strings. The smallest is 60-70cm long. The biggest is almost 2 metres high with a leg to sit on the floor.
Today, there are (职业的) balalaika groups performing around the world. More and more people get to know the balalaika and are attracted by its Russian style music.
Here is a truth. Humans are born with the (能力) to communicate, but some people are better at it. Some people find it difficult to express themselves well during a (谈话), especially in public. The good news is that the (技巧) can be learned. Here are some pieces of advice.
Remember that talking to other people depends on body language and facial (表情) besides words. If you look and sound confident, people will pay (注意) to what you say, even if you don't feel so confident.
Look at people in the eye when you speak to them. It makes you seem more honest, friendly, open and (有耐心的). Of course, they will find it easier and more fun to talk to you.
(练习) listening to other people. The most important part of (交流) is listening. That's why we have two ears and one month. When you listen to people, watching their face and body language will help you understand and (记住) what they mean.
Think before you open your month. The best communicators express their ideas in short and simple ways (明智地). If you are trying to convince people of something, be clear and use as few words as possible.
Have you (曾经) imagined how to live without money? As we all know, in the modern world, living without money sounds (不可能). However, an Australian couple have come up with new ways of making it through the years without spending any money. Let's have a look at how they make it.
After they decided to do that, they built (他们自己) a new house which was made of used wood. At first, (没有人) of their friends knew where they lived, so few guests visited them in daily life. They collected cold rainwater to take a shower and raised five ducks to (提供) them fresh eggs. They grew some fruits and vegetables as well, and sometimes even looked for food on the streets. Some people were afraid that the food on the streets would make them (生病的). In fact, they were in excellent condition. Although they had no jobs, they didn't have a lot of time to (浪费). They spent most of the day working for their neighbors so that they could get their next meal.
Not everyone is (勇敢) enough to do this, but they really made it work and they felt happy. One day, someone sent their story onto the Internet and then more and more people knew them. A lot of reporters have interviewed them since they became famous." Maybe some people think we are (疯狂), but free life without money really (满足) us," they said.
Hello, everybody. I'm Olivia. I'm glad to be here this afternoon. Do you have a friend with an interesting background? Today, I'd like to tell you about a (活泼的)girl. I'll tell you a bit about her, where she's from, and why we're good friends.
You know, I didn't use to do much exercise. A few years ago, I joined a (运动)club. On my fist day there, I met Raquel. After the gym, we had coffee (一起)and soon became good friends. I think that's because we have a lot in common. We like to keep it and love to (尝试)different food, especially spicy food. And we love the ocean. In summer, we like to hang out at the (海滩)ad go surfing at least once a month. Raquel was born in Mexico, but has been here since she was (十)years old. Her mother is Mexican and her father is American, so she can speak (两者都)Spanish and English. That's something different about us. Although I (上学;参加)a class last year, my Spanish is still terrible! Another thing that's different is her background. Raquel's from two countries and has experience and (知识)of two cultures. I think that's really (酷的).
We might not live in the same city in the future, but I think we'll stay friends. Thanks for listening to me.
Long ago, only the cat had the ability to trace its prey by scent(根据气味追踪猎物). The other animals used their eyes to (发现)their prey. The dog wanted to learn the skill, so he went to visit the cat. The cat said yes to the dog's (要求)and asked him to stay in his house during the lessons. After a few (天)the dog thought that he could use the skill and wanted to go home.
"You haven't (学会)the skill yet, "said the cat.
" But I have to go home now, the dog said.
" All right," the cat said. " You may go back tomorrow but not today."
The next morning, when the dog came to say goodbye, the (猫的)wife told him the cat went out early in the morning but she didn't know (哪里) he went.
Actually, the cat hoped to test whether the dog had learned the skill. The dog started by (跟着)the footprints of the cat. However, the cat jumped from one rock to another and then (葳)himself in a tree.
The dog followed to the two rocks but he could not find any footprints there. He became (失望)He kept going round and round the tree. but he couldn't trace the cat.
The cat watched every move of the dog. Finally he said , "Look up! You have not (完全地)learned the skill!"
That's why the dog only knows how to trace its prey on the ground.
My dear son,
I think my life has been long enough now. And I won't be able to visit you any (再), but would it be too much to ask (是否)you could come and visit me once in a while? I miss you so much. I am so glad when I hear you are coming to the school for a meeting. But I have (决定)not to go to the school because I am seriously (虚弱的).
I'm sorry that I only have one eye, and I have been an embarrassment for you. But before I leave this world, I have to tell you one thing that has been hidden in my (内心)for over twenty years. When you were very little, you got into an accident, and (失去)your eye. As a mother, I couldn't stand watching you having to (成长)up with only one eye. So I gave you (我的). I was so proud you could see a whole new world for me. I was (从不)angry with you for anything you did. Sometimes when you were upset with me, I thought to myself, "It's because you love me. " I miss the time when you were still young around me.
I miss you so much. I love you. You are the world to me. Wish you a safe trip.
Everyone wants to be successful, whether you are good at studies or not. But it is difficult to learn all the lessons well because it(要求) good ways and habits. If you lake right ways of studying, you can make great(进步). Here I will offer you some advice.
Firstly, it's(必要的) for you to have a good study habit. While studying, you are supposed to(避免) doing anything else. After you finish, don't forget to find some time for fun to make you relaxed.
Secondly, be(一定) to make up your mind to work hard and do well in everything you learn. If you are weak in a subject, you need to give yourself(勇气) to do well in it. You should often remind yourself that you must be(辛勤的) in your studies.
Finally, you'd better take(笔记) in class because you will probably forget something you've learned. They will be helpful if you want to(复习) what you have learned.
If you(遵循) all the advice, you will certainly develop into a better student in studies. Take actions now!
