Bill, a thirteen-year-old boy, thought he had grown up to be a man. But his parents told him, "You 1a real man until you begin to think about helping others."
One morning, his parents gave 2some money to buy some milk for them. Outside a shop Bill saw 3homeless old man who looked very sick. Bill went to him and 4, "What's wrong with you?" The old man answered, "I'm hungry. I haven't had any food 5 two days." At the thought of his 6words, Bill said to the old man, "Let's go to the restaurant."
When they got there, Bill asked the waiter 7bread and coffee to the old man. The old man finished the meal 8. After the waiter took away the plate and the cup, the old man said, "Sorry for giving you 9trouble. I'm fine now. I'll never forget your kindness! You are a very good young man."
Bill was happy when he heard this. Just when he wanted to pay for the meal, the waiter came. Bill and the old man learned in surprise that the food was free 10it was the birthday of the boss, and they were the first customers that day.
On my first job, I worked as a sports editor for a small newspaper. I never got a letter from my readers, so I was 1that there was an envelope on my desk one morning. From the envelope, I could see it was from a most popular newspaper.
When I opened it, I found a 2 and it read, "You did a good job. Go on!"
The note was signed by Mr. John, a famous sports editor. As I was a green hand, his words made me 3. After that, I kept the note in my desk drawer. Whenever I doubted 4I had the ability to be a good editor, I would read John's note and become 5again.
Later, when I made friends with Mr. John, the note writer, I learned that he often wrote notes to 6young people. "When I make others feel happy," he told me, "I feel happy, too."
7, why are there few note writers like John in our life? In my opinion, many people are afraid that they cannot be well understood. Also, writing takes more time and it is 8to pick up the phone. The problem with phone calls is that they cannot last a long time, but a note is a good way of 9and our words can be read more than once.
So, when you find some people around you need 10, please write a note of encouragement to bring them more confidence. Maybe, you are not sure what will happen, but remember Mr. John's words--making others feel happy makes you happy, too.

Good news! For the coming film festival, there are some promotions(优惠)in Times Cinema. This festival lasts seven days (Sunday, August 9th, 2020—Saturday, August 15th, 2020). Here is the poster.
Nature is full of colors. Plants, animals and insects(昆虫) have many beautiful colors. Color, however, for animals and insects is not only beauty. It means life to them because it helps them hide from other dangerous animals.
Locusts(蝗虫) are super delicious food for birds, but it is not always an easy job for birds to catch them. It is neither because locusts are good jumpers or runners nor because they are smarter than their enemies. The reason is that the colors of locusts change with the colors of crops(庄稼). When crops are young, locusts look green. But when autumn comes, locusts change to the yellow and brown color as crops do.
Brown bears, tigers and other animals move quietly through forests. They can't be seen easily by their enemies(敌人). This is because they have colors similar to the trees. For the same reason, polar bears that live on a land of snow and ice are white. Butterflies and bees living among the flowers are colorful like flowers. Soil insects are mostly dark-colored and they live under the soil(土壤) in a dark and wet environment. However, insects with colors different from plants can easily be found and eaten by others. So in order to survive, they have to hide themselves in the daytime and appear only at night.
Have you ever noticed some even stranger acts? The ink fish in the sea can send out some very black ink when it faces danger. As the ink being around, its enemies will find themselves suddenly in a dark world. At the same time the ink fish immediately swims away. That is how it keeps itself safe though it is not strong at all.
If someone has stopped breathing, you must try to start his/her breathing at once.
If the person is bleeding badly, you must try to stop the bleeding.
If you are bitten by an animal like a fierce dog, you must do something at once. The cold running water is the best and doctors are needed.
If you are burnt (hurt by fire or something very hot), deal with the burnt part at once. The cool water is better.
If there is a fire in a building, stairs are safe and lift is dangerous. |
A. Don't use lift. The lift may get trapped( 被困) between floors. Use the stairs and leave the building at once. B. Clean the wound. Use cold running water to clean the wound. Then stay at home to have a rest at once. C. Wash the wound. Wash the wound under running water. Cover the broken part, if there is any, with a piece of clean cloth. Then see a doctor as soon as possible. D. Press hard. You should press on the bleeding point with a piece of clean cloth and hold up the part to the body which is bleeding. E. Perform CPR. Blow into the person's mouth then press on his/her chest and then repeat the process. F. Use the lift. Lift is convenient. Take the lift to the first floor and you can go to see the doctor quickly. G. Cool the burnt. Run cool (not cold) water over the burnt part until it is less painful. Put a piece of dry clean cloth over the burnt part. |
When I was in primary school, I fell in love with reading. The books brought me to a wonderful world. The more I read, the I wanted to know. , my parents couldn't afford(买得起) so many books. I had to solve the problem .
There was a book shop near my home. One day I walked into shop and picked up a book. I didn't know whether I could read there without buying books. To make sure I wasn't noticed, I just read a few pages and then put back. Luckily, no one noticed me. After that, I went there to read every day. Several days , while I was reading, the owner came up and asked, "You like reading?" I looked down and replied nervously, "Yes." "Don't worry," he said a smile. "You may read books here you help me clean the shop." I felt surprised. "Really? It's so kind of you!" I was very happy that I was allowed to read there. From on, I spent a little time cleaning the shop. After that, I quietly read there. That way, I read lots of books. I became one of the best writers in our school. I even won some prizes in writing.
Now studying in high school, I can borrow books from the library. My hobby of reading is kept.
It will make a big difference to my life.
Lily and her brother Ryan were middle school students. They went camping with their parents last weekend and had a great time. While Ryan and Dad were putting up the tent in the open air, Lily and Mom started a bon fire(篝火) beside the tent. Then Lily and Ryan found four small long pointy sticks for cooking sausages( 香 肠 ) over the fire, one for each of them. They wanted to eat the delicious sausages. They turned the sticks slowly so that every side of the sausages could be well cooked. Then, they put one sausage between two pieces of bread. In this way, they could make a hot dog and add some ketchup(番茄酱) to it. It would make it more delicious. Sitting next to the bon fire and eating delicious food was Lily and Ryan's favorite part of camping.
After the meal, they all sat down, singing songs and telling stories. Ryan kept setting a stick on fire and waving it around. They finally went to bed at midnight and had a good sleep in the tent. They like this kind of relaxing activity very much. When they are free, they always have a happy family day together like this.
