An old carpenter was ready to retire. His boss was 1 to see the good worker go. He asked the carpenter 2 he could build one more house. The carpenter said yes, but his mind was no 3 on his work.
He used poor materials and worked on the house 4. When the carpenter finished his work, the boss 5 the front-door key to him. "This is your house," he said. "A 6 for you."
What a surprise! What a 7! If he had known he was building his 8 house, he would have done it differently. Now he had to live in the house he had poorly built.
9 it is with us. Sometimes we build our 10 carelessly. At important points we do not try our best. Then with a pity we look at the situation we had 11. We find that we are now living in the house we have poorly built. But we don't have a 12 to make it all over again.
Think of 13 as the carpenter. Think about your life. Build it 14. It is the only life you will ever build because life is a do-it-yourself project.
Your life today is the 15 of your attitudes and choices you made in the past. Your life tomorrow will be that of your attitudes and choices you make today.
It was raining heavily as I was walking up the hill towards the station at six o'clock on a Saturday morning. At this early hour there wasn't much traffic and there weren't many people. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill, a car came around the corner. It was traveling very fast. Suddenly it hit a lamp post and turned over.
I ran to the car to help the driver at once. He was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood on his face. A young woman hurried into the station and phoned for an ambulance, while I took care of the driver. Many people came to see what happened. A policeman arrived a few minutes later and asked me a lot of questions about the accident. After a while the ambulance arrived and the driver was sent to the hospital.
On Monday morning I went to the hospital to see the man. The doctor told me that he was much better, and he would leave the hospital after a few day's rest.
Many years ago, when I was working as a volunteer(志愿者)at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Lisa. The poor little girl had a very serious disease and was dying. The doctor had done his best but no medicine really worked. The only chance to save her seemed to be a blood transfusion(输血)from her five-year-old brother. The little boy had the same disease before and had developed the antibodies(抗体)to fight the illness.
The doctor talked to me little boy about what they planned to do, and asked him if he would be willing(愿意的)to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate(迟疑)for a moment. He took a deep breath and said, "Yes, I'll do it if it can save Lisa."
As the transfusion was going on, the little boy lay quietly in bed next to his sister. He looked at her and smiled all the time. When everything was done and the color returned to his sister's face, his smile disappeared and he looked a little afraid. He looked up at the doctor and asked, "Will I start to die now?"
He was too young to understand the doctor. He thought he would have to give all his blood to his sister, but he agreed.
The Flame Mountain(火焰山)is about 200 km away from Urumqi in Xinjiang. It is in a place with many high mountains around it. It is much hotter than nearby places. If you want to enjoy the feeling of a hot shower in summer, it's the right place to go!
On hot summer days, it can get hotter than 80℃. Try to cook eggs or cakes in the sand and they will be ready in a few minutes!
Does rain help make it cooler? People hardly see rain in 10 out of the 12 months in a year. Why? For most of the time, the raindrops dry in the hot air before they reach the ground.
The mountain came into being millions of years ago when the earth was changing a lot. We can't see any plants on the top of the mountain, only red rocks. They make the whole mountain look red. In hot air and strong sunshine, the mountain looks like a burning flame. That's where its name comes from.
One afternoon, Mrs. Stone decided to visit her friend Mrs. King. Mrs. King lived in a nice house with a large garden far from the city center. Mrs. Stone took her dog with her. While the women were having coffee outside the house, the dog was running around in the garden. The two friends were very unpleasantly surprised when the dog appeared after some time with a dead rabbit in his mouth. Mrs. King began to feel sick because she knew that her neighbor kept rabbits in a hutch(笼子) in his garden. As the dog and the rabbit were both covered with earth and dirt, the women took the rabbit and carefully cleaned it in the bathroom. When it got dark, they went quietly through the trees into the neighbor's garden and put the dead rabbit into the hutch.
The next afternoon Mrs. King's neighbor, the one with the rabbit, found her in the garden, called her over. She walked towards the neighbor and she felt very afraid because she knew that she did something wrong. "You know what?" her neighbor said. "Yesterday morning I found one of my rabbits dead in the hutch. So I put it in the ground in the garden and this morning," he started to whisper, "it's back to the hutch! I'm going to take it to a right pet cemetery."
(几个月前), I read a book. It made me feel it's a to always buy more things than I need. I started cleaning my house and got lots of unnecessary things. It's a wand trouble for me. And then I(考虑)what to do with them.
This question made me think of Garage Sale for Orphans. It helps people clean out their houses and t things into money that can help homeless kids(全世界). It rme. So I ask my boys for help, and they loved the idea of helping others.
They walked from doordoor to ask the/'neɪbəz/ for the things they don't need. At first, I wondered if weable to fill a box or two. Finally, however, we had ten boxes full of different things. Then it was timethe yard sale. (即使;尽管)we had ads in the newspaper and online, I was still not sure whether whether anyone would come. (令我们惊奇的是), so many people came to our yard sale. I pto get 400 to 500 that day. At last, we got $743.23! We sent the money to the poor children in Haiti. Thanks for all the people whohelped us.
