Our junior high school life is coming to an end. So my classmates and I decided to make a special1for our own favorite teacher in the ceramics (陶艺) class.
After being dried for a long time in the fire, our gifts for teachers were2. Chen Hui took them out of the kiln(窑). CRASH(碎裂声)! His cup, Xiao Yao's. 3, and my heart broke into pieces all over the floor.

"A cute doglephant! Cool! You just turned the accident into a happy one!" I said. And right then, I knew 9 to do. Maybe I could make a mosaic(镶嵌画) by using the pieces of my broken heart.
When it was done, everyone thought it was pretty cool. Yes, my present didn't turn out the way I'd planned, but it turned out even 10!

China is a nation of etiquette (礼仪). Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.
When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks (小吃) like biscuits or candy. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.
At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat(款待)their guests with a big meal. They always present more food than the guest can eat. On the table, the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a Western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for visitors, which won't happen at Western tables. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you finish eating, the host usually says, "It seems that you didn't eat much. Please have more. Mr. Jackson was our science teacher. On the first day of class, he gave us a talk about an animal called wampus. He told us that the wampus lived on earth millions of years ago during the Ice Age and died out because of the change of climate (气候). We all listened carefully and took notes of everything he said. Later he had a test.
When the exam paper was returned to me, I was surprised and sad. There was a big red "X" through each of my answers. I failed. But how come? Anyway on the test paper, l had written down what Mr. Jackson said in class.
Then I realize that no one passed the exam at all. What had happened?
"Very simple, "Mr. Jackson explained, "I had made up all that story about the wampus. There had never been any such animal, so the information in your notes was not correct. Do you expect to get high marks for incorrect answers?"
There was no need to say we were angry. What kind of test was this? What kind of teacher was he?
How could we believe he gave us so much information about an animal that had not been there at all? How was it possible for us students to doubt what the teacher taught us?
"The zeros on your papers will be recorded in your grade books," he said. And he did it.
Through the experience, Mr. Jackson hoped that we would learn something. Teachers and the books are not always right. In fact, no one is. He told us not to let our mind go to sleep. It is easy to be a friend when everything is going great, but a true friend is one who sticks around in both the times and the bad. A good friend will cheer you up when you are a bad day. Show a friend you care. Ask the other person," What can I do to help you?" and be willing to do it.
Listen to your friends. Be honest. Tell what is wrong if they have hurt you. Send a card, give them a little , or call them on the phone just to say "I value our friendship." whenever and wherever you can. Good friendships are not easy to develop, but a friendship can last forever you are a loyal and sincere. If you are a friend to , they will usually be a friend to you. Friends make life better.
