A Chinese airplane made an emergency landing after its front window broke and one of its pilots was partly pulled out of the plane. The Sichuan Airlines passenger flight took off from Chongqing in southwest China. I was travelling to the Tibetan capital Lhasa. The airplane's another pilot, Liu Chuanjian, safely Ianded the plane.
in the city of Chengdu, Now,Liu is being called n hero in China.
The plane was flying ant n height of about 9, 700 meters when an extremely loud sound was heard in the cockpit (驾驶舱), Liu said. The cockpit experienced a sudden loss, of air pressure and drop in temperature. When he looked over, Liu saw the cockpit" right window was gone.
Liu took control. He had to land the plane by himself because the automatic flight control system stopped working. He safely landed the plane in Chengdu. None of the plane's 119 passengers were hurt, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said.
The incident was a trending discussion in China and around the world. Many are praising Liu for being able to land the plane. On the Chinese site Sina Weibo, users are writing messages with the tag (标签) ChinaHeroPilot.
Incidents involving partly broken windows are somewhat common. They are usually caused by a bird or lightning(闪电) striking the window. However, it is rare for a whole window to come off.

As the saying goes," Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime," This is the way the charity organization Heifer International (国际小母牛慈善组织) wants to end world hunger.
It began in the 1930s when an American farmer, Dan West, went to Spain to help people in need. He tried to feed the people with milk. But it seemed that there would never be enough milk. It made him think that what they needed was" not a cup, but a cow".
Dan West returned to America. He worked together with some friends to find ways to end hunger. He believed giving animals and providing training would stop world hunger. With his help. Heifer International was set up.
On Heifer International's website, you will see a list of animals like cows, chickens, pigs and even fish and bees. You can offer help by buying some animals for one certain family. Those animals will have babies. With more and more animals, these families will be able to support themselves. Once these families get better lives, they will pass on the act of kindness to others. More importantly. you are buying the resources (资源) for programs run by Heifer International to help more families.
The programs also help small-sized farms. As a rule, each farmer must give his animal's first female (雌性的) baby to another in need. Heifer International also provides training on animals' health and feeding. And these farmers all agree to teach others what they have learned as another rule.
However there is still a long way to go. The milk may run out. But if families have their own cows, they can get plenty of milk to feed themselves. The organization wants the farmers to go on working together, helping each other and learning from each other. Maybe hunger can really be stopped.
We should not use more water than we actually need. If we do,we will not have enough water in the future. It is not a difficult question to answer. If we remove more fresh water than nature replaces, we have taken too much.
Many cities run campaigns (运动) to get people to stop wasting water. They show them ways they can cut back on water use. What's more, they carry out programs that offer money to reduce water use. For example, they give people shower heads and toilets that use less water. Another threat (威胁)to our water supply is pollution. When our sources of fresh water get polluted, we can no longer use this water. This also endangers(危及)the animals that depend on the water.
We can save lots of water by not letting taps run while we brush our teeth or by turning off taps right after washing hands. By collecting cold water when we're taking warm showers, we can also save water. In this way, we can make full use of water.
A. However, just how much is too much? B. There are several things we can do to save water. C. Finally, they make laws to control the use of water. D. we don't have to let the cold water run until it gets warm. E. They also increase water bills for people who use too much. |
________ I'm enjoying my time in Taipei as an exchange student. I have made new friends here, and many of them are locals. Through my interaction(交流)with them,I've noticed some interesting cultural differences.
________ One of the most common cultural differences is the size of food portions(份额)in restaurants. The food servings in America are usually larger than those I've seen in Asia.
We're even used to seeing the large sizes in some restaurants. However,in Asia, food portions are generally not very large.
________ Eating out in Asia is often a big social affair. People here eat out a lot. There are all kinds of restaurants. And there are food stands and food carts- even on the sidewalk!
But in the USA, people are too busy to cook at home. We often eat out with our family members. Fast food restaurants are quite popular.
________ Another interesting aspect of eating out is the way food is served. In America, each diner(用餐者) orders his own meal. When people eat out in Asia, they usually order food to share. Sometimes, one member of the party does the majority of the ordering for everyone. Nearly every time I eat out with friends in Taipei, each of us has our own bowl of staple(主食), and we share all the dishes. This is an excellent way to try new foods.
________ One thing that surprises me most is the way people pay for food at a restaurant. In the US we often ask for separate checks, so we each pay for our own meal. But here. If diners decide to pay separately, they don't request separate checks. Instead, they give money to the person who pays the bill. People also don't tip the waiter. There is often a service charge added to the bill.

Che Milton is an Atlanta police officer. During his first week at work, he took a call for a robbery (抢劫). But he wasn't going to catch that person. The suspect( 犯罪嫌疑人) was a l2-year-old girl. All she'd tried to steal from a store was a pair of $ 2 shoes. Her family of seven couldn't afford new shoes, the girl explained. She is the oldest child in the family. And she'd hoped to surprise her 5-year-old sister with a new pair.
Milton offered to drive her home rather than punishing the girl. Inside the house in a poor neighborhood, the officer's heart broke. There weren't enough beds for all five children. And quilts were lying on the floor. The kitchen was empty of food.
The girl's mother, Mrs. Staple, explained that her husband worked a lot but didn't I make much money. She needed to stay at home with the kids, so she couldn't get another job.
The police department decided to help the family. To make sure the family received objects they could use, the police department shared the children's and the mother s clothing sizes. It also called for blanket and furniture donations and offered to let people drop things off at the police station.
