A man and his wife were traveling with their 1. On the first day, both rode on his back. In town, they heard people whispering: "What a mean(刻薄的) couple, putting 2 that weight(重量) on the donkey." On the second day, the man 3 and the wife walked beside the donkey. People whispered: "What a cruel 4, forcing his wife to walk while he rides on the donkey." On the 5 day, the man walked, the wife rode the donkey. People said: "What a careless man, letting his wife ride 6 on the donkey." On the fourth day, both walked beside the donkey. 7, people whispered: "What a stupid couple! Why do they walk 8 they could ride on the donkey?"
No matter 9 you do, people will judge you. Since we're all overflowing(溢出的) cups, we can't help but spill some of our 10 opinions. Even if we don't voice them, whether we think you're stupid or clever, we'll always think 11.
Don't let any of those thoughts make 12 self-image(自我形象). They were none of your business. If you think 13 the couple are stupid and whisper, they may be confused, stressed, or 14. Maybe all three.
Wherever your donkey takes you, hold your head 15. Ignore the whispers, and be confident about yourself.
Sound the flute(长笛)!
Now it's mute!
Bird's delight,
Day and night,
Nightingale(夜莺),
In the dale,
Lark(百灵鸟) in sky, --
Merrily,
Merrily, merrily, to welcome the new year.
Little boy,
Full of joy;
Little girl,
Sweet and small;
Cock does crow,
So do you;
Merry voice,
Infant noise;
Merrily, merrily, to welcome the new year.
Little ______,
Here I am;
Come and lick
My white neck;
Let me pull
Your soft wool;
Let me kiss
Your soft face;
Merrily, merrily, to welcome in the year.
No one knows when the first kite was made. The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. Han Xin, the leader of an army, wanted to bring down the king. He decided to dig a tunnel(隧道) into the king's palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure of the length(长度) of its string(线). In this way, he could determine how long the tunnel should be. His men in the tunnel took the kite string with them. When they reached the end of the string, they knew to dig.
Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, kites are often flown as part of a celebration, such as the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country.
Kites have been used for scientific purposes in the western world. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin tied a key to a kite and flew it in a storm to find out that lightning was a form of electricity. In the 1890s, Lawrence Hargrave invented the box kite to test ideas about flight. From 1898 until 1933, the United States Weather Bureau(气象局) used box kites to collect weather data. The Wright brothers also experimented(做试验) with kites. What they learnt helped them make the first airplane flight in 1903.
On Feb 12, Dalian (not his real name) was taking a train to Changsha, Hunan, for a business trip. While on the train, he went into a carriage(车厢) to have lunch and chose to remain in the carriage. He did not realize that the carriage was only for people heading to Wuhan.
Several hours later, when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage. Although he was surprised, he didn't want to cause trouble and got off the carriage with just a single bag.
As Wuhan had been locked down because of the epidemic, Dalian couldn't find a hotel to stay in. Feeling at a loss, he saw a notice online looking for volunteers to work in hospitals. The payment was 500 yuan a day. Dalian decided to give it a try.
He soon became a volunteer at Wuhan No. 1 Hospital. He was responsible for taking out trash, mopping the floor, disinfecting(消毒) the hospital, dealing with used protective suits and bringing meals to patients.
The young man, reportedly from northeast China, had to work 12 hours every day, changing his protective suit three times a day. While working, he couldn't drink anything or go to the bathroom. He also had to have close contact with infected patients, which is risky.
Dalian was afraid of getting infected at first. "When I entered the wards (病房), I was kind of frozen and felt like I couldn't move," he said. But after seeing more patients get better, his fear gradually went away.
Dalian's story has since gone viral(走红的) online. People were surprised by his experience, but also described him as having "a heart of gold".
①Next time you're in a public place, take a look around you, and count how many people are using their mobile phones. I can tell you now that it is probably more than half, whether you're on public transport, in a café or simply walking down the street. With the development of technology, we can now do almost anything on the mobile phones. How does the use of mobile phones affect(影响) the young? Do they really need mobile phones or not? Some British parents, teachers and teenagers give their opinions on this subject.
②Parents want their kids to be safe. Are teenagers safer with a mobile phone or without? William, a parent of two kids, says, "The great thing about my kids having mobile phones is that I can keep in touch with them. The worst thing about teenagers having phones is that some young people use them to send impolite messages to each other." Some parents have rules about their children's mobile phone and internet usage. If they break the rules, their phones will be kept by their parents.
③In the UK, students can take their mobile phones to school, but they are not allowed to use them in class. Some teachers complain(抱怨) that students don't always follow the rules. They don't listen carefully in class because they are using their phones to surf the internet, chat with friends or so on. As for the students, most of them think phones are part of their lives. They can keep in touch with family and friends, and they can take photos, keep important information and surf the internet, which is very convenient(方便). Some consider phones as a kind of fashion (时尚) and they don't want others to see them as "out" or "different".
④It's true that mobile phones have become a symbol of the modern life. This form of technology makes teenagers' life much more convenient, but if teenagers depend too much on them, it can lead to serious problems. Increasingly scientists are saying that everyone needs a break from mobile phones — put them away and experience "the real life". In fact, it can be very easy—next time when you go out with friends, put all of your phones in the middle of the table. Whoever touches his phone first has to pay the bill!
⑤Indeed, the convenience brought by mobile phones is great, but don't let your phone become more important than the "real" people in your "real" life.

Compared to those of Angelina Julie, Lisa's lips (嘴唇) were not as charming as hers. But they were magic—they could a nice smile. There was little chance that you would see Lisa not smiling. She even smiled the day after her cellphone was . When she smiled, the whole world smiled with her.
At the English Corner, Lisa was always the one who had the most listeners. Her job was to teach us English, but Lisa taught us more than language. I can't remember how many times she told us how much she was of us. And we were always inspired by the heartwarming stories she told us during the discussion about happiness and , love and death.
And I will tell you: Even though Lisa doesn't teach us any more, we will always remember the lovely lady from New York.
When I was a little girl, I was very shy and unconfident. I used to be afraid of (speak) in public, so I always kept quiet in class. I never answered the teachers' questions. I just listened to them (quiet).
, one day, things changed. I listened to my Chinese teacher Ms. Song carefully usual. Suddenly, she asked the whole class question which was quite easy. Ms. Song looked around, and then her eyes were on me. She asked me (answer) it. Feeling nervous, I stood up slowly and was (able) to say a word. "Come on! Believe in (you). You are the best!" said Ms. Song. I looked at Ms. Song in the eyes, and I could feel her encouragements. I (take) courage from it and answered the question correctly. Ms. Song gave me a big smile and did my classmates. From then on, I started to answer the teachers' questions in class.
Since then, whenever I meet challenges, I always say to myself, "You're the best."
