Hello, everyone. I'd like to talk about my dream school. My dream school is big. It has a swimming pool, a dance room and a football field. The most important thing is that it has a greenhouse and a farm. Students have more lessons to choose from. Besides Chinese, English and math, there are interesting lessons about beauty, cooking and Chinese chess. At noon the school can provide all kinds of food, such as Japanese, Korean and Chinese food. So the students can have many choices of food and eat more happily. As for the teachers, they are all excellent. And the students are polite and friendly. They learn from each other and help each other and they are like a big family.

For me, one Christmas stands out from all the others, and I will never forget it. That1Christmas began on a rainy day in the worst year of my life. I had no money, no job, and was on my way to 2 a job. I sat down in the streetcar and there against the seat was a beautiful silk 3 with a silver handle. I had never seen 4 so lovely. I examined the handle and saw a 5 on it. I found the name from a telephone book. Then I called and a woman answered. To her surprise, it was her umbrella, which was given by her parents as a birthday present. She was 6 excited that she wanted to invite me to her house and thank me in person. At her house, she took the umbrella 7 her eyes filled with tears. When I left, she took down 8 address.
The next six months were terrible. I was able to get only shortterm jobs. Badly, my last job ended the day 9 Christmas. And the money I had could only 10 to get, Peggy, my little girl, a small tree without any decoration on it.
The air was full of the sound of Christmas merriment as I walked from the streetcar to my small apartment. I felt so 11 and lonely. But I tried very hard to 12 a smile to greet my daughter.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy ran 13 to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. It was a delivery man, and his arms were full of boxes. We were so 14 and opened them, a lovely doll, gloves, candy and a beautiful handbag. Unbelievable! They are all from the kind woman who owned 15 umbrella. After we decorated the little tree, a sweet peace flooded me. I became confident to face life again.

Do you know how a sport becomes an Olympic event? To be accepted as an Olympic event, a sport must be played in at least 75 countries on at least four continents (for women's sports 45 countries on three continents). The new sports that have been introduced in recent Olympic Games reflect changing fashions around the world. Snowboarding was introduced in Nagano in 1998, and the first Olympic Taekwondo competitions were held in Sydney in 2000.
Air sports such as paragliding, hanggliding and skydiving are becoming increasingly popular. Paragliding first became popular in the 1970s and it is estimated that there are already more than 400, 000 paragliders in Europe alone. The first world championships were held in 1979 and paragliding schools can now be found around the world. Paragliders say that they do their sport simply for the love of flying.
In the meantime, the World Paragliding Association is busy trying to get the sport accepted as an Olympic sport. If that happens, paragliding will become even more popular. It will help athletes to find sponsors(赞助商)and it will attract more people to the air. Official competitions for paragliding are held in more and more countries each year, and there is reason to hope that paragliding will be added to the Olympic list before long.
The word CIFTIS is short for China International Fair for Trade in Services. Holding CIFTIS is a big event for our nation. During 2020 year's fair, many new top technologies were found. Among them, the following technologies were the most eyecatching.
★AIpowered garbagesorting robot
It can detect and sort the garbage on the conveyor belt(传送带)and then throw it into different dustbins. For example, it will put plastic bottles and containers into recyclable dustbins. What makes the robot so special is the result of garbage sorting. With advanced technologies such as cloud computing and robot automation, the robot can sort through garbage 98 percent correctly, which also will significantly lower the cost of garbage sorting.
★Bionic(仿生的)machine shark
A dark gray, lifesize "shark", was also displayed. This bionic shark can move forward by imitating(模仿)the swinging motion of fish tails. It has the fastest speed of about 11 kilometers per hour, which is much faster than the average speed of other bionic submersible(潜水的)vehicles. People can find lights, a camera system and imaging sonar(声呐)in it. It can be used for underwater searches, seafloor mapping and underwater shooting.
★Driver tiredness warning system
A warning system to prevent people from falling asleep while driving was introduced at the fair. It can judge whether the driver is tired by monitoring how long the driver's eyes close or if his or her head drops. If the driver enters a state of tiredness, the system will immediately sound an alarm until the driver's eyes reopen. In the future, other dangerous driving behaviors, such as not wearing a seat belt and making phone calls while driving, might also be added into this warning system.
With the rapid development of global service trade in recent years, CIFTIS has become a new driving force for the world growth, and attracted more and more other countries to attend the fair.
Meta had been our housekeeper long before I was born. It seemed as though she had always been there, like the picture of my grandmother which had hung for decades in the hall. She came over from Germany in the 1920s and stayed on for 34 years.
Meta was difficult to please. At Christmas and on her birthdays, we used to give her scarves, gloves, clothes, but she would hardly open the gift box, and just put them away. After a while we discovered that money was the only present she really wanted.
As a matter of fact, Meta was so thrifty that my mother had to keep watching in case she might buy cheap food. Left to herself, she would buy only the cheaper meat.
And every year, she told us to move back to Germany. This went on from the time I was four until I passed my 26th birthday. She always found reason to stay on—"April is too cold", "July is too hot and October is too crowded", "In January, there is too much snow. "
One summer she finally took a trip back to Germany. While there, she became very ill and died. When the news came, my brother and I couldn't believe. The seasons might change, we might grow up and get married and have children, but Meta went on forever.
When my mother and I finally could gather the courage to accept the news, we went down to Meta's room. Somewhere down in her own room, Meta kept a big case which was doublelocked. At the bottom of the case, there was a note saying "To Eddie and Karol, I have left all my money. Meta. " Inside was over $6, 000 which she had saved, coin by coin, over the past 40 years. Every quarter, every dollar, including the gifts of money which we had given her at Christmas and birthdays.
There was a long silence. I looked at my mother and couldn't help crying, without feeling ashamed.

In China, girls who reached 15 and boys who reached 20 would have hairpinning or capping ceremonies. They're wearing traditional Chinese clothing, waiting for their parents to put a hat on their head or stick a hairpin in their hair. |
In the United States, turning 16 is a big deal. Most teenagers get their driver's licenses at 16. Girls have "sweet 16" to celebrate coming of age. They wear fancy clothes and have a special dance with their father. |
In Japan, Coming of Age Day is a national holiday that takes place on the second Monday in January. People who are 20 years old all officially come of age on this day. Girls do their hair in fancy styles, wear makeup and put on kimonos. Boys wear a man's kimono or a smart suit. |
In Germany, the comingofage ceremony is called Jugendweihe—"youth ceremony". During this ceremony, a teacher gives a speech to young adults, talking about values such as respecting others and being responsible. It is from young adulthood on that most people are on their own to face the challenges of life. |
In one coastal area of Mexico, the comingofage ceremony is a big challenge. Boys have to swim across the local sea with a big rock. So boys train hard to succeed in swimming across the sea to show they are strong and brave enough to be an adult. |

Growing old is something we all have to face. For young people, old age may seem a long way off. It may also seem depressing with many disadvantages, but in my opinion, older has a lot to offer. Older people can have a better quality of life than younger people.
Firstly, I believe that the older people become, the they get. They are older and wiser, and have more selfknowledge and life experience. , as people get older, they have more and more time to what they want. On the other hand, it's true that older people are less active and more likely to fall ill. However, medical advances mean that the older generation have far more active lifestyles than before.
COVID-19(新型冠状病毒肺炎)has cast a spell on the year 2020 and taken the world into a mess. There is no doubt that the COVID-19 has influenced human being's life in many (way) since its outbreak. But interestingly, according to the (late) science study, San Francisco birds start singing differently in the quiet of the COVID-19 shutdown. The study found that city birds were almost three times loud as village birds before, but the noise levels in city areas are much lower now. Because the shutdown, traffic flow in cities drops and people communicate less, which bring quiet living conditions.
These quiet are good news for bird populations. According to the research, birds have trouble (have) babies because of noise pollution. Noise can also lower birds' ability (hear) other birds' warnings of enemies and help calls from (they) own babies. Both of the reasons have likely played role in the drop of bird populations.
noise levels are lower, birds will be found sing more softly. Even though the birds sing more softly, the communication distance nearly doubled. Scientists believe more birds will be found flying in the sky in the near future!
