I loved everything about school except for one person: Mildred.
Every day, as we walked home after school, she 1 step on the backs of my shoes. Then, when I stopped to adjust my shoes, Mildred would slap (拍打) my back. She made me 2.
Soon, my mother realized something was wrong. I told her the whole story. My mom told me not to worry and said she had a 3.
The next morning, my mom walked up the4 with me. Just as we got to the top, we saw Mildred.
"Hello, Mildred, " my mom said 5. Mildred stopped, turning back, then standing as 6 as a statue (雕像). Her face was bright red. Her oversized coat hung open. There were only two buttons (纽扣) on it.
My mother didn't say anything at first. 7, she buttoned up Mildred's coat and turned the collar up around her neck.
"I'm Marion's mother. I need your 8, Mildred. " My mother's hands held Mildred's as she spoke. "Marion doesn't have any brothers or sisters. She needs a best 9 at school, someone to walk up the hill with her after classes are over. Would you be Marion's friend, Mildred?"
Mildred chewed (咀嚼) on her bottom lip and 10. "Oh, thank you!" my mother said. "I just know you are someone I can depend11. " Then she hugged us and left as if 12unusual had happened.
Mildred and I walked on to school. As I looked over at her, I saw that Mildred was 13! I'd never seen her smile before. We walked up the hill each day after school together and pretty soon we became best friends.
I didn't 14my mom's plan at the time. But in the end, I came to understand her message:15 never fails. It will make us into a friendly and beautiful person.
When we were scared, sad and helpless,
you gave us courage, warmth and hopes.
When we had to stay at home
to keep away from the illness,
you, workers, helped us buy living things;
Leaving your children behind,
you worked in the neighbourhood every day,
you never complained but smiled the whole day.
When we needed all kinds of materials,
you. drivers, drove them there without thinking twice;
Running on the streets, between the cities,
you made sure things went well as usual.
When we had coughs and fevers,
you, doctors and nurses, tried your best to save our lives;
Looking after the patients in the hospital day and night,
you never gave up until the sick got well.
There are many people doing jobs in silence;
There are many people giving hands without telling their names.
Thanks for your hard work and selflessness.
You're the heroes of the times.
You're the most beautiful in our hearts.
We love you!
Cameron Bloom, his wife Sam and their three daughters were a happy family. They were enjoying their holiday in Thailand when a terrible accident happened. Sam was badly hurt and the doctor told her she would never walk again. Sam's world fell apart(崩溃) and she felt depressed.
Sam's family did everything to cheer her up, but it was clear that they were losing her. Until one day, an injured young magpie(喜鹊) dropped into their lives. They named her Penguin Bloom and the bird became a lovely member of the family.
Penguin and Sam soon became close friends and one was always looking after the other. When Penguin was weak and sick, Sam would lovingly nurse her back to health. And when Sam found it hard to moving, Penguin would sing loudly to cheer her on.
As the little magpie got better and grew into a strong and beautiful bird, Sam found joy and strength of her own. A year after her accident, she took up Kayak(皮艇) racing. Another year on, she had become one of the Australia's leading Para-athletes(残疾运动员).
Sam got through it, thanks to her family, exercise and yes, the friendship of a little bird. Penguin was saved by the Blooms at first, and in return she saved them in ways they could not have imagined.
a. Injured Penguin came into Sam's life b. Sam got through the hardest time
c. Sam became a successful Para-athlete d. A terrible accident happened to Sam
Fan Shenghua, 59, is one of the inheritors(传承人) of the Longjing tea roasting technique. His palms(手掌) tell you everything-they're thick, rough, and full of calluses(手茧); a reminder of more than 40 years of hard work.
"You have to touch the leaves with your hands to see how much water should be removed, " Fan said. "If too much is removed, the leaves will break into pieces; if not enough is removed, the tea will taste bitter(苦涩的). "
This traditional technique dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. It not only ensures(保证)the quality of the tea, but is also an important part of Chinese tea culture. "Longjing tea leaves are famous for their color, taste and shape. Only by hand can we make the best of them. It's like making a work of art, " Fan said.
These days, however, ▲ . "It's easier, but the quality is not as good, " Fan said. "Machine-made tea floats(漂浮)longer in water and tastes bitter. "
In March this year, when President Xi Jinping visited Hangzhou, he watched Fan roast tea leaves. Fan changed the strength and movement of his hands as he felt the tea leaves roast. Xi later said, "The things made by two palms cannot be replaced by modern technology. "
Fan is now taking apprentices(学徒). His son, a 27-year-old college graduate, is one of them. "It's a tradition. We need to pass it down, " said the father.
Hello, everyone. Here's NBTV-1. I'm Wang Yi. At the beginning of 2021, the Chinese government said it would provide free COVID-19 vaccines(疫苗) to all Chinese citizens(公民). Since then, tens of millions of people have got the vaccine. It's really helpful but some may still have some questions about the COVID-19 vaccines. I collected some main questions--"How does the vaccine work? ", "Are you allowed to get it? And how?" and "What do you need to do before getting it?" Now let's ask the doctor, Mr. Zhang about it.
Wang Yi: How does the vaccine work?
Mr Zhang: The vaccines China is now using are called" inactivated vaccines"(灭活疫苗). There are "dead" viruses in these vaccines. They cannot cause the disease, but can show your body what the virus looks like and make you immune(免疫)to it. Studies show that China's vaccines are 79. 34 percent effective. This means that for every 100 people who get vaccinated, about 79 people will become immune to the virus. If 79 percent of the whole population becomes immune, the possibility of COVID-19 spreading will be very low.
Wang Yi: How is the vaccine given?
Mr. Zhang: The vaccine is given by injection (注射). It's suggested to get two periods. You should wait about two weeks after the first injection to get the second one.
Wang Yi: Can people of all ages get vaccinated?
Mr. Zhang: The vaccines have been tested among three different age groups: 3 to 17. 18 to 59, and 60 and above. The 18-to-59 age group has the most data(数据)--the vaccines have shown that it's safe to this group. The other two groups are expected to be included soon.
Wang Yi: Thanks a lot. I have the last question.

Reading is not just about learning a skill, nor is it just about learning how (use) words better. Reading is a kind of (communicate).
Many famous people in different (country) agree that if you want to become certain kind of person, you should try your best to spend time with people like that.
If you want to become someone with good manners, you should try to make friends with people who behave(good) in social life.
If you want to become some learned, you should try to talk with those learned people.
If you want to become someone successful, you should surely communicate with those who are successful. As they may be much(wise) and stronger than us.
But (unlucky), those excellent people are usually far away from us. If you yourself are not good enough, is almost impossible for you to reach them. And this is what reading is for. A book is the embodiment(化身)of a great mind. You can communicate with those great minds reading.
No matter busy you are, don't forget to spend some time reading. If you don't find time to read, you will finally find yourself without any time to live the life that you want to live.
It is said that the eyes are the windows to our soul. However, to have healthy eyes, you have to look after them properly. Your eyes need everyday attention.
First, you have to pay more attention to your diet. Eat more fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, eggs and milk. It's good for your eyes. Also, a regular amount of vitamins A and B2 should also be taken.
Second, you must have regular and sound sleep. This relaxes the eye muscles(肌肉)and gives them the rest they need. Sleep can help the body repair its tired tissue(组织). You should sleep for at least seven to eight hours every day.
Loss of sleep can give you dark circles under your eyes. Next, it's necessary for you to exercise your eyes every day. Blink your eyes at regular periods to keep your eyes moist(湿润的).
Last, you should treat your eyes correctly. For example, if you get something in your eye, don't start rubbing(揉)it. Rubbing is harmful to your eyes. Don't read or write in poor or bright sunlight because sunlight can cause eye tiredness. Remember to wear sunglasses to stop the sun from shining directly in your eyes. Too much reading, writing, watching television or working on a computer can also cause eye tiredness, so rest is required.
