Many people have to work on the weekend. Some people do not mind. Other people think it is terrible.
One man thinks that working on the weekend can be 1. He is Graham Coates. Mr. Coates worked in an office in Brighton. England. One Saturday, he went to the 2 to do some work. When he got in the lift to go home, it 3 between floors. Mr. Coates could not get out of the lift. He was stuck! He did not have a cell phone, 4 he started to shout. However, no one heard him. Then Mr. Coates remembered that Monday was a holiday. No one was going to come to work until 5!
There was 6 for Mr. Coates to do. He had to wait until one of his workmates came to work and found him. With nothing to eat 7 drink, Mr. Coates ended up sleeping for most of the time.
Early on Tuesday morning, the president of the company came into work and found the lift was not 8. When someone 9 opened the lift, Mr. Coates came out and he felt cold, weak, and 10. He had been in danger for sixty—two hours!
My mother often asked me "What is the most important part of the body?" Through the years I would guess what I thought was the correct answer.
When I was younger, I thought 1 was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy." She said, "No. Many people are deaf. But try to 2 your head and I will ask you again soon."
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was 3. Everybody was crying. My mum looked at me 4 it was our turn to say our final goodbye to Grandpa. She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
I was surprised when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game 5 her and me. She saw the conclusion(结论) on my face and told me, "This question is very important. It shows that you have 6 enjoyed your life." I saw that her eyes were filled with 7. She said, "My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."
I asked, "Is it because it 8 my head?"
She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or loved one when they cry. 9 needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will have a shoulder to cry on when you 10 it."

Last Saturday, I went to a coffee shop to meet a friend of mine. I got there ten minutes earlier.
So I ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window. watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the road.
Suddenly. there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked(刹车)hard, But it was too late … The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone's surprise, the car didn't stop. It drove away quickly.
People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy's head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance(救护车)arrived and took the boy to the hospital. At 6:30 pm, the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn't leave the police station until 8:00pm. After that I went home because I didn't want to talk to anyone.
The next day, the boy's parents called me to say thanks. They also told me their boy was fine and the driver was at the police station now.
① The writer ordered a cup of coffee.

A small cloud moves slowly through the air in a hospital operating room (手术室). In the room a patient with cancer(癌症), lies on a table. The cloud is all around the patient, covering her body and filling her lungs(肺). The cloud is not smoke. It is made of millions of nano—robots(纳米机器人). These tiny robots move from cell (细胞) to cell in the patient's body, killing the cancer.
Fighting cancer with nano—robots is only an idea today, but scientists say that it could be possible in the future. Using nano—robots for good purposes such as fighting the illness or repairing the environment may be the way to many of today's problems.
However, nano—robots could be a dangerous risk as well. Because nano—robots are so tiny, they will have to work in large teams of many thousands to many millions. For this reason, nano—robots will have to be programmed(被编程)to build themselves. Scientists will not have the ability to build millions of nano—robots one by one.
This ability to re—produce is making some scientistic worried. What will happen if something goes wrong in the programming? Quite a lot of crazy nano—robots would be far worse than any illness. Some people think that if they get out of control, nano—robots could make the Earth gone.
What should be done? Should we continue researching nano—robots or should we search for other methods? This is one of the many difficult decisions that we have to make in the future.
The pictures of the Chinese flag on the moon made headlines(头版头条)in China and abroad following the landing of the Chang'e —5 spacecraft.

Winter Olympics is also (call) the White Olympics. International Olympic Committee (IOC国际奥委会) handed the 2022 Olympic events to Beijing July 31,2015. The IOC saw it as a wise (choose). Beijing will be the first city to host both summer winter Games in the world after it hosted the 2008 summer Olympics.
Thousands of Chinese people, (especial) teenagers, are interested in winter sports because they can get a lot of fun from it. People all think that (host) the 2022 Olympic Winter Games will encourage more young people (join) in ice and snow sports. The Bird's Nest Stadium and the Water Cube will again welcome the sports (love) from home and abroad. We believe that Chinese people will show excellent Olympics to the world. We are sure that people all over the world will enjoy (they) during the Games. Let's look forward to it!
Do you like reading? It is very important for us to learn or study through reading. But now many students say they don't have enough time to read. So we need some skills to help read more in less time while we are doing some reading in class. Here are two skills that I think are very good.
Preview(预读)—if your article is long as well as difficult, such as long magazine articles or science reports, previewing is very useful for you to get a general idea.
Here is how to preview.
●Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
●Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
Of course you can't get all the details by previewing. It tells you not to spend time on things you don't really want or need to read.
Skim(浏览)—if your article is short and simple, like popular magazines or the sports of your daily paper, skimming is a good way to get a main idea. Here's how to skim.
●Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep across each line.
●Pick up only a few key words in each line
Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same passage, but perhaps we'll get the idea of what it's all about.
I wish all of us could read more books and enjoy reading every day!
