Money makes the world go round. But money isn't anything when people don't know how to use it. And no one is better at using money than American investor (投资者) Warren Buffet. He is one of the richest men in the world.
Buffet was born in Nebraska in the US in 1930. As a child, he loved making and saving money. He used to go door-to-door selling his own products.
After university, Buffet went on buying and selling shares (股票). Shares are small part of a company. He is good at predicting changes in companies. By 1962, he became a rich man. In 1990, he went one step further and became a billionaire (亿万富翁).
In 2008, Warren Buffet became the richest man in the world. He has promised to give 99% of his wealth to charity (慈善) after he dies.
Mr. Green once worked in a big company. He was quite busy so that he couldn't do any reading. So he gave up his job and opened a bookshop in the center of the town. It wasn't big but all the books were nice and most people liked to buy some there. When the shop was closed, he could read at home. He knew a lot and many learned people were glad to make friends with him.
It was Sunday and it was cold outside. Mr. Green was very busy. At nine in the evening all the buyers left but a woman was still there. She was dressed up and seemed to be waiting for somebody there. Standing by the shelves, she looked over the books one after another, and made them in a terrible mess. Mr. Green came up to her and asked, "Excuse me, Madam. What can I do for you?"
"Your books are not interesting at all," said the woman, "I want a delicious one."
"That's easy, "Mr. Green smiled. He brought out a cookbook and said, "Here you are, Madam."
The teacher gave each student a piece of paper. There were some questions on it. "What is your favorite color? Tell us about your hobbies and interests. Do you like your brothers or sisters? "
Judy hated answering questions. She looked at the questions, and she had no idea how to start. She was the only child in her family, and she had lots of interests, such as running, skating and swimming and so on. She could never fill out what hobby she enjoyed the most. For example, she was interested in all kinds of sports, but she is not good at any of them. So she never knew how to answer questions like these.
Mrs. Jones, her teacher, walked quietly through the room when the students worked on the project (课题). She stopped at Judy's desk to ask her if she needed some help.
Judy looked up and said, "I am interested in so many things. I just don't know how to choose."
Mrs. Jones smiled. She knew Judy was a smart girl but she couldn't focus on what she did. "Maybe you could just list three of them."
Judy seemed to relax and said she knew what to write down.
Judy liked having the guidance(指点)so she could know what she should do. She finished the project quickly.
Joy loves instant noodles(方便面). She eats them at least once a week. She has a way to make this dish more delicious. She writes "Although instant noodles are not healthy food, I still love them. They are cheap, delicious, and I can cook fast. I often add(加)something to make them more delicious."
"I discard their flavorings(调味品), I make the 'flavorings' myself. When I cook the noodles, I always put an egg into them. I love eggs. They are one of my favorite foods. Sometimes I put some pieces of meat. I also put some vegetables, sometimes cabbages and sometimes broccoli. Yesterday I tried tomatoes. It was great! Next time I'd like to try some beans. After I eat instant noodles, I often go out for a walk and then have an apple. I feel great."
Do you know that millions of people are still suffering (遭受) from hunger? That's according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. But there could be a solution. According to a study, scientists have found a way to change a plant's genes (基因) to make better use of sunlight, reported Time for Kids.
Plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) to make their own food. The process is called photosynthesis (光合作用). But this is a very slow process. It can take between 10 minutes and one hour for plants to start and finish the photosynthesis process. When a plant is under the sunlight, it will start the photosynthesis process slowly. But if a cloud happens to cover the sunlight, the process will suddenly stop. When the cloud goes away, the plant will slowly restart the process. This makes it hard for plants to get the right amount of sunlight to create food.
The new study speeds up the process. Plants use less than one percent of the energy available to them. But by changing a plant's genes, the scientists were able to greatly increase the plants' leaf growth. In the test, leaf growth in two plants increased by 20 percent, while leaf growth on a third plant increased by 14 percent. Scientists did the study on tobacco (烟草) plants. And they thought the study would produce the same results in corn and rice. Someday, the process could increase food production around the world.

With the (develop) of society, the Internet is (play) a more and more important part in our daily life; more and more people, especially teenagers (be) showing great interest in the Internet. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it's called present!
