Once there was a farmer who lost his watch in his barn. The watchwas cheap, but it was very important to him because it was a(n)1from his father on his tenth birthday.
After2thebarn for a long time,he gave up and asked for help froma group of children playing near it.
He3 them that the person who found the watch wouldbe rewarded5 dollars.
Hearing this, the children ran inside the bam4. They looked for the watch everywhere5still could not find it. Just when thefarmer was going to give up, a little boy went up to him and asked to be givenanother6.
The farmer looked at him and thought," Why not? After all, thiskid looks honest. "
So the farmer7thelittle boy back into the barn. After a while the little boy came out with the watchin his hand! The surprised farmer asked the boy8he succeeded but the rest failed.
The boy replied in peace," "I did9but sat quietly and listened for the soundof the watch."
This shows us that sometimes a10mind can think better than an excitingone. Stop and think over for a while.

On Saturdays and Sundays, people usually need to do some shopping. Some people go to shops or stores; some go to the supermarkets. In America, many people enjoy shopping in the shopping malls. A mall has a lot of different kinds of shops in it. There you can buy clothes, tables, and everything you need. American people like driving to malls, so many shopping malls have big parking lots. Usually, the mall is in a building, so people do not need to worry about the sun or the rain.
After shopping, you may get tired. You can walk into a coffee bar for a short rest. There are also many different restaurants in the mall and you can have a good meal. Now more and more Americans like to go shopping there.
Many years ago there was an old woman. She had no children because she did not like children at all. But she loved cats. She had mother cats and baby cats. She had black cats and white cats. The children in the neighbourhood came to her house to play with the cats. More and more cats came to the old woman's house. There were too many cats in the old woman's house. The old woman couldn't feed them all. Then she had an idea (主意). "The children love my cats," she thought. So she gave each child a cat. Then she was very happy. And the children were very happy too. And the cats were pleased too, because they each had a room.
When you wave to a friend, you are using body language. When you smile at someone, you mean to be friendly. When you put one finger in front of your mouth, you mean "be quiet". Yet, people in different countries may use different body languages.
Once, an Englishman was in Italy. He could speak little Italian. One day while he was walking in the street, he felt hungry and went into a restaurant. When the waiter came, the Englishman opened his mouth, put his fingers into it and took them out again and moved his lips. In this way, he meant to say, "Bring me something to eat." But the waiter brought him a lot of things to drink, first tea, then coffee, then milk, but no food.
The Englishman was sorry that he was not able to tell the waiter he was hungry. He was ready to leave the restaurant when another man came in. The man put his hands on his stomach, and this body language was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him a large plate of bread and meat.
Finally the Englishman had his meal in the same way.
A few years ago, my husband and I were on an island for a long weekend with our two daughters. As we wondered about what (do) next, our girls jumped in and told us exactly what they wanted to do." We want to go to the butterfly museum," said Ariela and Eliana.
As soon as we walked into the main area of the museum, we (see) thousands of beautiful butterflies, all flapping(拍打着) their colorful wings. My girls were jumping up and down (excited), and I knew we had made the right decision to come to the museum. They were having so much fun. I turned to our museum tour guide I was curious(好奇的), and asked, "How long do butterflies live?" She said, "About ten days," "What can butterflies do in ten days?" The guide stopped, looked at me and/ said. They make the world more beautiful place." "Wow," I said, "I've never thought about butterflies that. Thank you."
After we said goodbye, I couldn't stop (think) about what the guide had said. She was right. We all have (anything) to offer the world with the time we have. When we focus(集中) our gifts on taking care of each other every day, we can make a (different).
How thankful it is that you can have the influence(影响) on your family, friends and neighbors! Like a butterfly, you have your own way of making the world a little (good) for everyone!
