Many people think that TV programs have little or no educational value (教育意义). It is true that lots of programs are meaningless. However, some programs are good and we learn many things from them. Here are few of my favorite programs.
Blue Peter |
As a child, this was the only program I could watch. I watched it three times a week. You can learn about different countries around the world from it. As the show is for children, the language in it is easy. |
The Great British Bake Off |
This show is about making bread, cakes and so on. The show wants to find Britain's' best amateur baker (业余烘焙师). You can watch the show o get some ideas of new things to try baking and you can always find the recipes online. |
Frozen Planet |
This one is about life in cold places. There are many special animals in this show. I love this show not because of the cute animals, but because it teaches us about the impact we have on these animals and what we need to do to save them. |
Pointless |
This show is great for thinking. It is a quiz (知竞赛) show. It may be about sports, weather, movies and on. I learned lots of things from this show. |
Three students are giving their opinions about what a good friend should be like.
Cindy |
I think a good friend should be honest (诚实的). That's more important than any other thing. And it is where a real friendship starts. If a person isn't honest, he may lose his friends' trust. |
Jerry |
I think a good friend has to be generous (慷慨的). Here being generous doesn't mean he has to give his friends money or clothes. It means he should share his ideas and feelings with his friends. In fact, his friends can know him better in this way. |
Mary |
In my opinion, a good friend should understand his friends. When there's something wrong between him and his friends, he must put himself in his friends' place and think more of his friends. |
Friends are very important in everyone's life because friends are always there when we need them. It's great to have many friends, and I can't think about my life without my friends.
My best friend is Lisa. When I first met her, I was five. She is one year older than me. Now we are in the same class-in the 8th grade. She is tall and quite thin. She has long curly blond hair and blue eyes. I.am not so beautiful. Sometimes I wish I could be as beautiful as she is.
My name's Molly. I am tall enough but a little fat. Lisa and I like doing lots of things together and talking about different things. She always helps me with my math and I sometimes help her with her English and history. I had to make a report (报告) on science once, but I didn't understand what the teacher said. The next day, I read it in front of the class. But the teacher told me that my report was wrong and all my classmates laughed at me. I felt very bad about myself. Lisa was the only one who didn't laugh at me. She tried to be nicer than anybody else and made me happy.
I am a shy person and sometimes I feel that people don't understand me. Lisa is friendly and everybody loves her. She is also smart and she can deal with (解决) everything. I am happy to have a friend like her.
John is my best friend. We live in the same building. We study in the same school but not in the same class. We often chat and play football together after school. I first met him four years ago and we have been good friends for two years.
John is tall and strong with black hair. He has a round face, a small nose and two big, brown eyes. I like his eyes because they are always bright and smiling. I think he is handsome. Many people want to be his friends. John is always friendly and helpful. When I feel bored or unhappy, he tells me funny jokes and makes me happy.
John is very clever. He reads a lot of books. He is good at singing. He would like to make people happy with his songs when he grows up. I believe that he will become as popular as Jay Chou and be famous around the world in the future.
It's enjoyable to do housework. The feeling is fantastic when you see your house become clean and tidy. How often do you do housework? The following is my housework frequency.
Cooking: twice day [We all have lunch outside (在外面). I have to say food in restaurants usually tastes more delicious, but it's not healthy. I love cooking healthy food for my family.]
Cleaning the house: once a day (I usually tidy up after dinner. It's a good way to exercise.)
Washing clothes: once a day in summer; twice a week in winter (Sometimes my daughter helps me with it. She is helpful.)
Garden work: once month [My husband (丈夫) and my son usually do the garden work. just water the flowers.
London is one of the largest cities in the world. What other 1 do you know about it? Do you know there are three "Londons"?
One is the City of London, the oldest part of London. It is the country's' financial (金融的) center. The City is 2 in the day. Lots of people work there. But at night the City is a different 3. Most people who work there don't 4 there. The City is quiet at night.
Another is the West End 5 lots of popular shops and hotels. It's the 6 part of London. There are great theaters, cinemas, museums, long streets of fine shops, and parks. So many people around the world 7 the West End every year. The Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, the Buckingham Palace are also in the West End. Whitehall is very 8 street. Most of government offices (政府机关) are there.
If the City is the "money" of London, and the West End is the "goods (商品)" of London, 9 the East End is the "hands" of London. There are lots of factories in the East End, and many people work there. Many of 10 live a poor life.
A few years ago, my husband and I were on an island for a long weekend with our two daughters. As we wondered about what (do) next, our girls jumped in and told us exactly what they wanted to do." We want to go to the butterfly museum," said Ariela and Eliana.
As soon as we walked into the main area of the museum, we (see) thousands of beautiful butterflies, all flapping(拍打着) their colorful wings. My girls were jumping up and down (excited), and I knew we had made the right decision to come to the museum. They were having so much fun. I turned to our museum tour guide I was curious(好奇的), and asked, "How long do butterflies live?" She said, "About ten days," "What can butterflies do in ten days?" The guide stopped, looked at me and/ said. They make the world more beautiful place." "Wow," I said, "I've never thought about butterflies that. Thank you."
After we said goodbye, I couldn't stop (think) about what the guide had said. She was right. We all have (anything) to offer the world with the time we have. When we focus(集中) our gifts on taking care of each other every day, we can make a (different).
How thankful it is that you can have the influence(影响) on your family, friends and neighbors! Like a butterfly, you have your own way of making the world a little (good) for everyone!
People spend almost a third of their lives doing one thing-sleeping. Every year, there is a special ay for people around the world to celebrate the importance of good and healthy sleep-World Sleep Day.
Sleep is like food for the brain.
People of different ages need different amounts (数量) of sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation (国家睡眠基金会) in the US, adults should get seven to eight hours of sleep night. And school-aged children may need more than ten hours of sleep.
The China Youth and Children Research Center said that about 80 percent of middle school students don't get enough sleep. It has influenced students' school life. They can't pay attention in class or do well in sports.
To solve this problem, scientists advise that students should get less schoolwork and more time to sleep. Good sleep habits help lot. For example, try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends and during holidays.
A. Teenagers need nine to ten hours. B. Enough sleep helps the brain and body grow and develop. C. Taking a 20-minute sleep at noon is also useful. D. Students without enough sleep may get poor grades. E. However, many students don't get enough sleep because of too much homework. |
There is a new student in my class thisterm. His name is Jack. Jack is tall and has short curly hair. And he sits nextto me. At first he didn't talk to anyone. He always played basketball aloneafter class. Most of us thought he was not an outgoing boy.
A month later, he started to talk withothers. And sometimes he told jokes to make us laugh. I knew that he playedbasketball well. So I asked him to teach me. With his help, I got much betterat basketball. And I found he was really different from me. He is more outgoingand funnier than me, but he isn't as hard-working as me. So I always get bettergrades. We both love music and we often share our CDs. Now we are in the schoolbasketball club and we go there together twice a week.
