Feeling so sorry, my mother promised to prepare another one at once. To 6 surprise, my father didn't complain at all. Instead, he ate one more piece of the duck and smiled at my mother, "Good taste, I love it! Thank you, dear! It's the 7 roast duck I have ever had!" Once a king got two nice falcons (猎鹰)from his son . He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly. After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on .He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky. While the other was staying on the branch of a tree quietly, just keeping still.
The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once. The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. "It's unbelievable! How could you make it happen?" The farmer replied, "It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested." It's always the same to human beings .We all have " two flying wings " in our hearts as well , but we often don't seem to notice them and stay where we are just for safety and comfort . We won't realize we can fly so high and freely until the "branch" we are resting on breaks.
Reading newspapers has become an important part of everyday life. Some people read newspapers as the first thing to do in the morning. Others read newspapers as soon as they have free time during the day so that they can learn what is happening in the world.
Sometimes, we do not have enough time to read all the news carefully, so we just take a quick loot at the front page. At other times, we may be in such a hurry that we only have a few minutes to look at the headlines (标题) of the passage.
Newspapers can be found everywhere in the world. We can get many different kinds of newspapers in big cities, but in some mountain villages we can see few newspapers.
Some newspapers are published (出版) once a week, but most of the papers are published once a day with many pages, some even published twice a day! You know different people enjoy reading different newspapers. Some like world news, and others D prefer short stories. They just choose what they are interested in.
Today newspapers in English have the largest numbers of readers in the world. The English language is so popular that many Chinese students are reading English newspapers such as China Daily or 21st Century. Also they bring us more and more information with Internet.
Whether from news reports or social media articles, you may know that 5G is coming.
5G is the 5th generation network. It is a new network after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G. It can connect everyone and everything together. 5G networks will cover many cities in China soon. 5G means super-fast data speed. One can download a two-hour movie for fewer than 10seconds,and it is making our lives more and more convenient.
5G will make self*driving cars possible. For safety, self-driving cars need super—fast data transmission (传输)to communicate with their nearby environment. 5G is just what makes self-driving cars achieve this. Even airplanes will become "smart" in the near future. Passengers will be able to use 5G networks in the air to connect to the Internet and can order for food and drinks.
5G will be a big help for students who take online classes. Many people live in poor areas in the world where there are no schools. But with 5G, this will change. Students all over the world will be able to see places like the Great Wall without leaving their rooms.
It will be also easier for doctors to treat patients remotely by 5G. It means caring for patients from far away.
The facts listed above are only a part of what 5G will make possible and popular. Just as in the early days of the Internet in the 1990s, few could see how it could change our life and the world. The same will surely be true of 5G. With 5G, many things do not seem like dreams anymore. Now let's get ready to say goodbye to 4G and welcome the coming of 5G.
It's 2050. The Earth is dying, and moving to Mars seems to be the only way out for humans. A team of American astronauts (宇航员) begin to search on Mars. This is what the movie Red Planet begins with. Known as the Red Planet, Mars is the favourite of writers and filmmakers.
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the next planet beyond the Earth. Mars is the only planet whose surface can be seen from the Earth. It is about half size of our planet.
The surface of Mars is more like the Earth than any other planet. But it is further from the Sun than the Earth, so temperatures on Mars are much lower. Plants and animals can not live now on Mars. But many scientists still believe that such life may have been on Mars long ago.
On 6th August, 1996, scientists discovered a piece of rock from Mars, which fell to the Earth 13, 000 years ago. 10 years later, some scientists still didn't accept that there was life on Mars. People may not be sure about life on Mars until a sample (样本) of life is brought back. Some further researches are being done in many countries. Recently, Chongqing Three Gorges University has held an activity named "Cell Phone Ninja" (手机忍者). They would like their students not to use cell phones for 21 days. It is really a challenge (挑战) for most students.
The activity started on April 12. Each student who volunteered to take part in this activity got a bracelet (手环). If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the bracelet to show that. If they used their cell phones, a different photo would appear on the screen of the bracelet. After the last class of each day, the students sent the photos to the school's public Wet Chat.
More than 800 students wished to take part in this test, and 400 were chosen. After seven days, only 103 students remained. The test was set for 21 days because some scientists believe that 21 days is long enough to help form (形成) a habit.
According to the teachers in the university, the activity was not a competition. It depended on students themselves to make the decision. The teachers hoped their students could form better study habits through activities like this one.
