"I will never find time to learn this boring lesson," said Robert to Frank as they left school. "I can't do it by tomorrow."
"You have ten minutes before lunch. Why not1right away? asks his brother.
"Ten minutes! That's 2Besides, I must run with Rover now, "answered Robert.
After lunch, the two boys walked to school again. Frank 3 his book and began to lean part of it while he walked along. "What a bookworm "1" said Robert, 4. He looked for birds in the trees all the way to school.
"Come out to play basketball!" shouted a group of school friends when school was over. Robert ran away with the boys 5. Frank promised to join them in 15 minutes, and took out his book again. After he finished, Frank played with the boys and 6 the games. The two brothers were tired and went to bed early. But when they returned to school the next day, Frank knew his lesson well 7 Robert told the teacher that he had no time to learn it.
"8 did you find time to study for the lesson, Frank?" asked his teacher.
"I had 9 minutes before lunch yesterday; fifteen minutes on the way to school; and another fifteen minutes before basketball. Then t looked over my lessons for ten minutes before sleeping; and took 10 minutes before breakfast this morning to make it10. "
"That makes an hour's preparation"," said his teacher. "Frank, you may run and play at break time. Robert, spend your break time learning that lesson. Remember: One can take care of the minutes will have the hours to take care of himself.
There are many interesting things around the world. Here is something fun to visit.
The Piano House This House in Huainan City of An Hui Province looks like a large piano, with a glass violin in the middle. Some university students in Hefei built it and hoped to bring the city plenty of tourists. It works! Now it has become one of the favorites of tourists in China. If you are a music lover, don't miss it. |

Singing Roads In Japan, some roads can play music as cars travel over them. Grooves are carefully cut into the road. The spaces between the grooves make different music as cars touch therm. The closer the grooves are, the louder the music will be. Drivers can hear the beautiful songs best when driving at 50 kilorneters an hour. And all say they can make them keep wide-awake when they feel tired. |

Now, the VOA Special programmer WORDS AND THEIR STORIES.
(MUSIC)
Today, we will show the word "waste". It is something people tell us not to do. At home, parents tell us not to watch food in the classroom, teachers tell us not to waste time. One sports team, coaches tell us not to waste energy.
Waste often happens because we use something too much or because we do not use it well, we often use "waste" in arguments. lf we are unhappy with someone, we can say: "Don't waste my time. "And if you are not happy with something you did, you can say, "Well, that was a complete waste of time."
We also find it in some useful expressions". The first one is "Haste makes waste." "Haste" means doing something very quickly. "Haste makes waste" means if you move or do something in a hurry, you could make mistakes. And then it takes more time to correct mistakes. So, if you see your friends doing homework in a hurry, you can suggest, "Be careful with your work, you might make mistakes and then our teacher will make you do it again. Haste makes waste, you know. "
The other common expression is: "Waste Not, Want Nor." This means that if you never waste anything, especially food or money, you will always have it when you need it the most.
Now Let's hope learning about "waste" in this words and, There Stories was not a "complete waste of your time."

I'm Anna Matteo!
Listen again next week for another Words and Their Stories programme from VOA.
"Mum! I found one! I found a rock! "
I heard those words again and again last summer as I sat by the window, which faces a park. I know the voice was from Harry.
The Kindness Rocks Project started by a mom called Megan in Massachusetts, is becoming popular around the world. Kids, families and people of all ages are joining in painting rocks, hiding rocks, and finding painted rocks everywhere. Some post photos of the rocks on social media, and others just move the rocks in easy-to-find places for others to find. Some take the rocks home and share with their families.
Nine-year-old twins Harry and Hannah have painted over one hundred rocks with their parents. Most evenings the family and their small dog walk around with a basket full of rocks that they hide as they walk.
"It's a fun family activity, " Hannah says.
"We will do it in the winter too," Hannah adds.
"My twins loved finding and hiding the rocks in this park," their mother, Judy says. "I love how something so small can bring a smile to my children's faces. In return, they learn how to give back to others."
Kavin, age thirteen, and his ten-year-old brother, Jayce, have also painted many rocks. They love to hide rocks and look for rocks with their mom and dad. When their grandmother visited, they gave her painted rocks to take hone and hide in the town where she lives. When asked how many rocks he painted, Jayce says," Believe in me! I had more than 30. "
92-year-old Georgia, Kavin's grandmother also says, "7here are many ways to reach out and help. These rocks are so magic to light up one's day and they will pass you the same in return."
