We may know that there are four basic periods(基本时期) for human beings(人类) to pass through when you enter and live in another country. This process(过程)helps you do with culture shock(文化冲击).

Culture shock begins with the "honeymoon period". This is the time when you first arrive in a place where everything about the new culture is strange and exciting. You see new things, hear new sounds and language, eat new kinds of food. This period can last for quite a long time because you feel very happy.

Unluckily, the second period can be more difficu1t. After you have got used to(习惯) your new life, you can become very tired and begin to miss your motherland, your family, your friends, your pets and so on. Al1 the little prob1ems in life seem to be much bigger and more worrying when you face them in a foreign country. This period can be very difficult and lead to moving backwards quickly.

The third period is called the "adjustment(调整)period". This is when you begin to know that things are not so bad in the new country. Your sense of humor usually becomes stronger and you know you are becoming stronger by 1earning to take care of yourself in the new place. Things are still difficult, but you are now a survivor.

The fourth period can be cal1ed "at ease at last". Now you feel quite comfortable in your new place. You can do with most problems that you have. You may still have problems with language, but you know you are strong enough to do with them. At this time, you may feel a little uncomfortable if you go back to your motherland.

    1. (1) According to the passage, culture shock usually happens when you ______.
A . get married to a foreigner B . live in a big city C . go to live in a foreign country D . meet foreigners in your motherland
    2. (2) During the first period of the process, you feel _________.
A . sad and lonely B . happy and excited C . angry but strong D . easy but uncomfortable
    3. (3) The fourth period can be regarded as a period of being _____.
      A . relaxing (放松的) B . worrying C . tiring D . adjustable(可调节的)
    4. (4) From the passage we can infer that ______.
A . living in another country is fun B . it's boring to live in another country C . knowing about culture shock is hard D . it's not easy to deal with culture shock

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful(有压力的) life? Try laughing for no reason at all.

That's how millions of people start their day at Laughter(笑声) Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.

The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria."Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr. Kataria. "Everyone is naturally good at laughing — it's the common language. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 in the world.

Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.

So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say "ho ho ho, ha ha ha" while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.

Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results.

    1. (1) The first Laughter Club was started in.
      A . India B . America C . Britain D . China
    2. (2) How many Laughter Clubs are there in the world today?
      A . Over 300. B . Over 500. C . Over 800. D . Over 1,300.
    3. (3) How did the writer feel at the beginning of the class?
      A . Surprised. B . Pleased. C . Nervous. D . Tired.
    4. (4) When did the people in the club begin to laugh for real?
A . After ten minutes. B . After ten hours. C . After ten seconds. D . After ten days.
    5. (5) The article mainly tells us _________.
A . young children laugh much more often than adults in a day B . laughing is one of the best ways to stay healthy C . many doctors are also interested in the effects of laughter on our health D . real laughter and unreal laughter are both good for health

Having nice friendships is one of the happiest things in life, but sometimes you might find yourself without any close friends. Here is some advice that might help you get through the hard times.

Loneliness (孤独) is something that everyone can feel. Feeling lonely doesn't mean you're a strange person. Having fun by yourself is totally possible. You can spend time doing activities you enjoy. That can be a good way to pass the time and help you get to know yourself better. Putting your energy into your dream is also a good way. The last one is to make new friends. Going to the parties or activities that you are interested in. Although you might be shy, just believe in yourself and talk with people. You can also find friends on the Internet who share your thoughts and like the same things as you. They may not as close as those in real life, but it's still a good way to feel connected (有联系的) .
