My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, "Who broke this window?"
Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher may have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.
"Oh, "I thought, "I was the one who broke the window." It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? I didn't even get an allowance. "My father is going to have a fit,", I thought. I didn't want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I pulled it skyward. I told the truth, "I did it." It was hard enough to say what I had.
My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me.
"I know how much you like birds," she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden face. "Here is that field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It's time we got a new one for the library anyway. You will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed, I am rewarding you for your truthfulness. "
I couldn't believe it! I wasn't being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide-the very one that I had been saving up money to buy.
All that remains of that day is my memory and the lesson my teacher taught me. That lessen stays with me every day, and it will echo forever.
The Australian Council for Educational Researeh(ACER) released a report on Australian students' sense of belonging in school in May. It described as "disturbing" some of the differences in Australian students' sense of belonging between male and female students, students from high and low economic backgrounds, and students from different cultural backgrounds.
A sense of belonging in school is the degree to which students feel respected, accepted and supported by teachers and peers. It has been linked to students' attention and effort in class, their persistence and completion of learning activities. An understanding of belonging is important for educators. It allows them to plan effective practices to support students in the classroom and school-wide.
A study from the US found students' sense of belonging goes down from year 7 through to year 11. With it, students' educational expectations also decrease. This fall may be due to a mismatch between students' need for autonomy(自主)and interaction, and their learning environment. They may experience less supportive and caring teacher-student 'relationships, increased teacher control, and limited opportunities for autonomy. A similar study in Finland also found this might be because secondary students need to adapt to a larger social network and a larger number of teachers, so they may not know their peers or teachers as well.
Importantly, some groups of students may feel lower levels of belonging. This includes students with different cultural or language backgrounds, students with disabilities or students awkward in social interaction.
Teachers and schools play an important role in building up students' sense of belonging. If a student considers their school and teacher to be caring and accepting, they're more likely to adopt the academic and social values of their school and teacher. Teachers and schools can take steps to improve students' sense of belonging in school, which is of great importance for all students.
We all know the saying, "Nobody is perfect. "It has been planted in our brains since we were children, and of course, it is the truth. So if nobody is perfect, why do we have such a hard time admitting when we are in trouble or need help?
Like many other young people trying to get through their first year of college, I felt anxiety, and it had its grips on me pretty tight. It began getting in the way of my life, and I had to sit down and tell myself that my behavior was not healthy and. there was a solution. Finally, I decided to turn to therapy(治疗).
Therapy. It has such a negative reputation, but why? Does going to therapy mean that you are failing as a person or that you cannot fix your problems on your own? No. Going to therapy means that you are strong enough to recognize that something inside your head is not working correctly, and you are brave enough to try to fix it.
After a couple of weeks, many parts of my life became so much clearer. I began to understand that I, myself, am my worst enemy, which was pretty frightening. But, although frightened, 1 knew that it was only I who could guide me towards feeling better, and that was extremely helpful.
I have been guided towards a healthier way of thinking, one that is positive and powerful. I have been able to understand that no matter what happens in my life. I will always be okay.
A lot of people do not understand that it is normal to have negative feelings and sometimes to feel like we have lost control over certain parts of our lives. Seeing a therapist can greatly change your way of thinking about something if you keep your mind open and I am so thankful that I decided to go and do something for myself.
If you are in need of help, you can go to therapy and then everything will be okay.
Every time when we heard the word "EXAM", it sends a chill down our spines. We all have our own share of memories with exams. When it comes to students, there are some who start studying beforehand, and are all relaxed during the exams. Then there is the other lot who relax the entire year, and end up doing some really crazy things.
Make a timetable. They decide what and when to study, and, waste most of the day making that timetable, which probably they don't even follow eventually.
. Some students overestimate(高估)themselves and start collecting all the books and study materials on this planet to prepare for their exams, only ending up confused and panicked. They fail to understand that they aren't superheroes who can remember everything in just one day.
Stare at the wall. Suddenly, everything else becomes interesting a day before the exams, even staring at the wall. Now you may argue that they might be thinking about something. Absolutely not.
Contact friends. Students try to get in touch with friends whom they do not talk with very often, asking how much they have done with. Sometimes, this acts as a boost(激励), if they are ahead of their friends.
A. Remember everything.
B. But if they hear that their friend is revising the syllabus, then anxiety and regret start.
C. The first and foremost thing most students do is to make a schedule.
D. Collect Study Materials
E. Here are some crazy things students do before exams.
F. Once the break starts, it only ends after they have watched two or three TV series.
G. Their mind is usually blank without any thoughts in it.
After working an inhuman 8-hour shift at a factory unloading parts for cheap furniture, I got on the bus, dirty, tired and hot. I 1that place every day looking like I worked in a coal mine.2, 1 still felt a bit proud of myself as I had held this tiring job for 3 months, which was extremely rare. So when I took my seat on the bus going home, 1 decided my 3life would not lower my spirits today.
I was dreaming about a better and new life when I was4by our new passenger. She was a middle-aged woman with worn-out clothes and messy hair. She got on, aggressively(挑衅 地)and 5 pushed her way into a front seat, and then turned her glare and 6 on whoever dared to look her way.
All I could feel for this woman was 7.There was no disgust(厌恶).Only pity and the familiar knowledge of being faceless, nameless, and 8to no one. Suddenly, she turned her threatening eyes towards me and very loudly yelled, "Why you so 9 , man?"
With a smile, I said, "I just came from work. " She then loudly asked if I worked in hell(地 狱)and 10 laughing, so I laughed too— 11her and told her that was funny. Then I asked her her name as I explained why I was so dirty. Her name was Karen.
In front of all of us on the bus that day, the power of12showed its beauty. In front of all of us this woman13. Her language, her posture, and her voice, even the way she tilted(倾斜)her head when I spoke to her as a 14changed.
As Karen was getting off the bus, she touched me 15 on the arm. With tear-filled eyes, she asked whether I'd be riding the bus the next day. I promised I 16. We waved to each other and then I got what my life had needed all along: affirmation(认可).
Everyone on the bus had been watching us and then an old woman spoke to me, "Sir, you just changed that woman with your heart. She will never forget how you17her. You are great. "Other passengers gave me thumbs-up signs showing their18.
That day was the first day when I realized I am 19. People say I gave Karen something that day but actually she 20me so much more. I now work in the field of mental health. I often tell the story of the power of kindness, and I talk about Karen and unlimited possibilities.
A young man, while traveling through a desert, came across a spring of clear water. water was sweet. He filled his leather container so that he could bring some back to an elder had been his teacher. After a four-day journey, the young man (present) the water to the old man. His teacher took a deep drink, smiled (gentle), and thanked his student very much for the sweet water. The young man went home a happy heart.
After the student left, the teacher let student taste the water. He spit it out, (say) it was terrible. Obviously, it was no longer fresh because of the old leather container. He asked his teacher, "Sir, the water was awful. Why did you pretend to like ?" The teacher replied, "You tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was only the container for an act of kindness and love. Nothing could be (sweet). "
We understand this lesson best we receive gifts of love from children. Whether it is a cheap ball or a diamond necklace, the proper response is appreciation. We love the idea within the gift rather than the thing.

We live in central Phoenix , near the canal. Every day I used to see a homeless old man and his shabby and untidy dog hanging out down there.
I would tell my husband we should give him food for the little dog. It wouldn't have been a problem; we have our own "mini farm" of animals! But he would say "OK!" and then blow the idea off because of our business.
Being in Phoenix, Arizona, you can just imagine how hot it gets here, but its winter was really chilly! I had just come from KFC with take-out food for dinner. As I was turning by the canal, the man was sitting on a long bench , wrapping himself with an old brown coat and even older scarf. Even the dog had a worn-out woolen vest on!
Not even thinking more about it, I pulled into the parking lot along the canal and piled up a plate of chicken for the man and his little dog as well as a cup of hot coffee and a bottle of juice. Looking at all the hot and delicious food and drink, he said, "Thank you, sweetie. You are an angel. "I found tears welling up in his eyes! I told him he was so welcome, and then went home.
When my husband dug into the KFC bag, he asked, "Were you hungry or what happened?"1 told him what I did and he told me I had done a good thing. Since there had been nothing left in the KFC bag, we decided to go out to have our dinner. By the time we wanted to pay our bill, l couldn't find my wallet. I really didn't know where l lost it. Luckily, there was not much money in it, and I forgot it at once.
