I used to watch a little girl playing basketball every day from my kitchen window. One day I asked her why she trained so1. She said, "I want to go to college. The only way I can go is to win a scholarship (奖学金). I am2in basketball and l want to be3player in college. My dad told me. If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count."
She never changed her mind. I watched 4 through those high years and into senior high school one day before she graduated(毕业)from high school, I saw her sitting on the grass5. I asked her what was wrong. She told me that her coach said she was 6 short to be a good basketball player. She was heartbroken and it made me feel bad. Then her father said to her "Your coach is wrong, he doesn't know the power of dream. If you really want to be a good basketball player, 7but(除了) you can stop your dream." He told her again" "If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count. "8she didn't give up and continued to practise the basketball.
The next year, she and her team went to a big match. The coach of a famous college team 9 her to enter the best basketball team of their college. She was10 that she could be in her dream basketball team soon.
"If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count." It is true.

Fast walking is the exercise between walking and race walking. A study shows that fast walking has become the most popular exercise in China and many people walk more than 5,000 steps a day. About 37% of the people choose fast walking as their favourite exercise; over 23% choose running and more than 14% choose riding bikes.
Fast walking is easy, costs little and works well, so, it is popular. And many people would rather (宁愿) do exercise in nature than go to gyms. It's best to walk fast for at least 10 minutes at one time and walk up to 6, 000 steps every day.
The study also shows that people in Guiyang, Guizhou love sports most. On average (平均), everyone there walks 5,941 steps every day. It seems(似乎)that people in places with better environment and air are more willing to(更愿意) do sports.
Last summer I went to one of the world's most famous historical places, the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the home of the emperors(皇帝) of the last two dynasties(朝代)in China, the Ming and Qing Dynasties
The Forbidden City was completed in 1420. The palace has over 10, 000 rooms. It was a place that the emperors dealt with the official business with their ministers.
In Mandarin(普通话) the Forbidden city is called the Purple Forbidden City. However, the color of the palace itself is not purple. The color purple stands for power of the great emperors of China. It was so sacred(神圣的) that the common people could not even dream of ever going in.
The emperor also had some of the largest festival celebrations at the Forbidden City. During Chinese New Year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. The banquet had a hundred and eight Chinese dishes. It was such an expensive banquet that it could feed a common family for three generations(三代人).
Right now the Forbidden City is known as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. Everyone can go there. It is a museum with priceless Chinese antiques(古董) and treasures in it.
I really learned a lot about the Chinese culture and its history from this trip to the Forbidden City. It was like a dream which has come true. And I was excited to go on the trip and see the things that l had always wanted to see.
How will you go traveling between provinces? Many people may like traveling by train because it's safer and cheaper. Now the high-speed railways connect eastern and western China as well as the south and the north.
A new high-speed railway opened on September 10. 2017. It connects Zhengzhou in Henan province with Xuzhou in Jiangsu province. With this railway, it is the world's longest and makes up 60% of the world's total high speed railway lines. Up to2020, the total length of high-speed railways with a speed over 200 kilometers per hour will be 50, 000 kilometers.
Besides length, China also does well in speed. China is the only country with trains running at 350km an hour such as the Beijing-Tianjin and Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railways. If you want to travel from Xi'an to Chengdu by train, it will take about 16 hours. But from November, 2017, the new Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway will shorten this travel time to three hours
With these surprising numbers, it's easy to forget that China wasn't an early starter in the high-speed rail game. Japan started half a century ago, while Germany did 20 years ago. China only began to build its high-speed railways 14 years ago.
Behind the fast development of China's high-speed railways, there is the country's growing need for transportation. China's high-speed trains gave 951 million trips to people last year. It was three times more than 2010. China is among the top runners of high-speed railway technology, with a leading edge in some fields.
"The high-speed railways not only bridge the distance, but also connect people, information and products. It greatly develops the economy in different areas, peoples lives and tourism, "said Huang Xin, an official from the China Railway Company.
Yet, China's building of high-speed railways is still going on. The National Development and Reform Commission said in July that China plans to have 38, 000kmof high-speed railways by 2025.
