This is the power of silence. If we stay calm(冷静的), we are more able to find the solution!

My family lived in a two-floor house near the forest in North America.
One evening, my sister and I were sitting together watching TV. Suddenly, I saw Dad run in with a very pale face. But he said in a calm(镇静的) voice, “Kate and Joan, a friend of mine is coming here to see me, and I wish to be alone(单独) with him. Will you go up to your own room?” It seemed that he did not want to scare us.
We got back to our room and closed the door.
Soon, I heard a loud sound from the door, and then a climb of feet. They were hurrying up the stairs. I'm afraid that there was some danger near, I quickly held a pistol(手枪)in my hand.
Then I heard Dad cry out, “Quick! Open the door!” I did so. Oh, my God! I saw, over Dad's shoulder, a big wolf! It was running after Dad!
Without thinking twice, I raised the pistol, and fired. The wolf let out an angry loud cry. Dad took the still smoking pistol from my hand at once, and fired another shot. The wolf ran away quickly.
In fact, Dad had expected to lock the door—which was twenty feet away before the animal reached it. However, the wolf was too quick!
Holding our shivering (颤抖的)hands tightly, Dad said, “Aha! This is NOT my friend!”
C . surprised and excited D . relaxed and thankful“Wash your hands often and completely, with soap and running water!” We often hear this, but do you follow it? We know it's good for our health to wash hands. There's even a day to make us do it and know more about its importance. It is Global Hand-washing Day and it's on October 15. During the outbreak of COVID-19, washing hands plays an even more important role in preventing the virus (病毒) from going around.
People think of Doctor Semmelweis from Hungary(匈牙利) as the first person to find out the good results of hand washing. He pointed out the importance of hand washing to doctors, because they often worked with people who are seriously ill. And he saved a lot of people's lives by telling doctors to wash hands with chlorine (氯) before each examination (检查).After that, the number of dead patients became much smaller.
You might think everyone would be excited, because Dr. Semmelweis solved the big problem . But in fact things were quite different. Although Dr. Semmelweis kept asking doctors to wash their hands with chlorine, not every doctor accepted (接受) his idea. Some even sent him to a mental hospital. His idea became really popular years after he died.
Now that washing hands is of great importance, we should do it as carefully as we can. What's more, it's important to wash our hands in right ways.
What do people like doing in their free time? Some people say they like watching TV, because they think it has lots of advantages(优点).
First of all, watching TV can give us a good rest. After a day's hard work, we need a good rest. Watching TV can make us relaxed because of the pleasant music and TV plays.
Besides, watching TV is entertaining(娱乐性的). There are many kinds of entertainments, such as sports activities, concerts, plays and films all over the world at any time. It's not possible for us to go to every place to enjoy all the activities in a short time. We need over ten hours to fly from New York to Paris, a week by train from Beijing to Moscow and an hour to drive from Queens District to Manhattan District. But just one second, TV can bring us from a basketball game in New York to a fashion show in Paris by changing the channels.
Most importantly, watching TV is educational. Our children can learn different kinds of subjects through the educational programs and the special reports on TV. It's easy for them to learn Chinese from a Chinese teacher in Beijing and to learn Russian from a Russian teacher in Moscow. We can even learn how to behave(表现) well from the TV plays and a teacher can teach many students without a huge classroom.
