It was the first time I watched him carefully. Before this, Jack had just been the friendly young man assigned by the hotel to help me on trips into the wildlife park nearby. But then he caught my attention by asking me to shut up.
"It's just a garden spider, don't scream(尖叫)!" he said, looking at the small thing with more love than I could find in others. I had indeed screamed, but a spider was on my clothes, and we were in the jeep in the middle of the wildlife park.
I wanted him to pick the thing up and throw it out of the jeep right at that moment. However, he did something quite else. He gently let the spider onto his own knee and drove on, as if nothing had happened. I sat there staring at the spider for any sudden movement — if a tiger had walked by then, I would not have even looked at it.
I was frightened that the man was completely OK with a spider on his knee. About 15 minutes later, he pushed his knee forward to the dashboard (仪表盘)and the spider immediately climbed off his knee and onto the jeep. "The poor thing had been trying to get off me," he said." I only sensed that it was trying to reach the dashboard, so I helped him.
I wondered then about this man, who thought about the spider with such kindness. . Where and when did I lose my love towards the unfamiliar? Now, when faced with a row of ants in my way, my first thought is no longer to attack them. I just skip over them and we both carry on. The ants were already wise, but thanks to Jack, I learned to live with the not so beautiful bits of nature.
After just a few days of training, dogs in Germany can be able to identify people who got COVID-19, according to researchers. The dogs, part of a study by a university in Germany, were able to sniff (嗅出)out the virus exactly.
According to the study published in BMC Infectious Diseases, after receiving training for just five days, eight dogs from Germany's army could identify people with COVID - 19. They sniffed the saliva(唾液) of more than 1,000 people, both healthy and ill identifying the virus with a 94% success. "We think this works because people with the virus have completely changed their chemical smells, and we think that the dogs are able to sense the specific smell changes on those patients," Professor Dr. Maren Von said in a video on the study Thursday.
Dr. Holger Volk, another professor from the university, said that dogs have a sense of smell that is 1,000 times better than humans, so they have great potential (潜力) within the medical field. "We know for a very long time that dogs have been used in all walks of life, but for identifying patients, it's a new thing at present," Volk said. "People have not really realized the potential a dog could have to tell patients from healthy people.
Don't think it's an impossible task to pass your reading tests. Lots of people have shared their successful reading secrets here.
Read a passage twice before looking up an unknown word.
If you're reading to gain new vocabulary, you should treat it as a "fill in the blanks" exercise. At first, you'll have to read every paragraph twice. The second time you read it, focus on the words you don't know. Try and work out what each word means from the sentences before and after. If you had to guess the meaning, what would it be?
Whenever you are reading in English and learn a new word, don't let it slip away! Write it down with a short definition (定义)or a little drawing. Some students like to keep a specific notebook for this— their own personal dictionaries! Several studies have shown that writing a piece of information down on paper helps you to remember it more easily.
Read out loud.
If you're going to put time in your reading skills, you may as well get some extra practice for your speaking skills too! It's a great way to get used to speaking English too.

I don't think my school life is colorful, because I've got such many classes every day. I wonder that it will change or not someday. From Monday to Friday, I had to stay at school. The only relaxation is to listen the radio or play ball games. At weekends, you need to have classes, too. I know studying hardly is important for me now. Therefore, as the saying goes," All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." I want to get close to the nature. I hope I can take part in more activities such as visit museums, joining various club and so on.
