It's easy to make you embarrassed (尴尬的) in your life. You may run into the wrong classroom and everyone looks at you. Or you may have a piece of cabbage in your teeth!
People in England may feel embarrassed if someone asks them some personal questions, such as: "How old are you?" or "How much money do you make?" They will get unhappy. It's also impolite of you to talk about your own things too much when you meet someone for the first time. You'd better talk about weather.
Young people in America will feel embarrassed if they still use their parents' money to buy things or they often ask their parents before making a decision.
Sometimes we may get embarrassed in public(公众), for example: You find that you don't have enough money when you pay at the supermarket. Don't worry! Just put some things back, then no one will look at you. So, to be honest is the most important. If you forget the name of a person or don't know how to clean the toilet after using it at your friend's home, just ask them about it.
There were many people at the station. Some were waiting for the train, some were reading newspapers, and some were saying good-bye to their friends or families.
Mary, Jane and Alice were talking so happily that they didn't know their train was going to leave. At that time the guard called loudly, "The train is leaving. Please hurry." The three girls heard the guard and two of them jumped onto the train quickly before the train moved. One was left behind. It was Mary. She looked very sad. The guard came up to her and said, "Don't feel sad. The next train will come in ten minutes."
"I know." Mary answered, "But it was my train. My friends only came here to say good-bye to me."
One day. A baby snail (蜗牛)f that he had to carry a big and heavy shell (贝壳)at any time. He was very confused (困惑的),so he went up to his mother and asked , "Why was I born with a shell that grew so hard and heavy?" His mother said. "Because we don't have bones(骨头) to hold us up. We can only move slowly , so we need a shell to p us."
The baby snail asked again, "the caterpillar(毛毛虫)has (not) bones, either, and she can't move quickly. Why can she live without a shell?" The mother snail answered, "That's b a caterpillar will become a butterfly. She can fly high into the sky. The sky can protect her."
The baby snail had one (many) question, "But the earthworm(蚯蚓) moves l us. He has no bones and he can't turn into a butterfly. Why doesn't he carry a hard and heavy shell?" His mother said. "He can dig a hole and hide in the ground, and the earth can protect (he)."
The baby snail then cried, "We are so poor !We have no protection from the sky or from the ground!" His mother smiled at him, "That's why we have a shell. My dear, imagine that if we don't have the shells ,what will h to us ?Hot sun will dry out our bodies and we'll have (anywhere) to sleep. What's worse , we'll die in the heavy rain .How terrible it is! We don't depend on the sky or the ground for protection. We should depend (依靠)on o"
Christmas Day, December 25th,is perhaps the happiest day of the year for most English children. They know that they will get presents, just as they do on their birthdays. But at Christmas most of them will have more interests .They will see what their brothers or sisters have received(接收). They can also have the pleasure to give presents. It is often as happy as they themselves receive them.
English children always hang(悬挂) a stocking at the end of the bed on Christmas Eve. In the morning they play with the new toys. At lunch, there is a Christmas cake. Usually their parents will put a coin or two inside it and part of the fun is to see who finds it. But every year English hospitals receive many telephone calls from some parents. Quite a few children often notice the coins only after they have eaten them.
A father and his daughter were flying a kite in the park. The young daughter was a little bit tired, so they took a break on the bench, when the daughter saw an old man selling apples, she asked her father to buy her some. (B) Her father didn't bring much money with him, but it was enough to buy two apples. So he did, and give (A) b_______ of them to his daughter, smiling.
His daughter held one apple in her left hand and the other in the right hand. Then the father asked her if she could share one of the apples with him. When the girl heard this, she quickly took a bite(咬) from one apple. Then she also took a bite from the (C) s__________ apple. The father was surprised. He was lost in thought. (D) His daughter was too young to understand about sharing and giving. A smile disappeared (消失)from his face.
Suddenly, his daughter with an apple in her left hand said, "Daddy, have this one! It is much juicer and sweeter." Her father said nothing. He felt sorry about making the judgment(判断) so quickly, (E)多么善良的孩子呀!
Sometimes we should spare some more time to understand things better.
His daughter was to understanding about sharing and giving.
