In New York, on a Friday night, a poor young artist stood at the gate of a train station. He was playing his1. His music was so great that many people put money into his2.
The next day,the young artist came to the 3place, and played the violin as usual. Different from the day before, he took out a piece of paper and put 4 on the ground. The paper read,“Last night,a man named George Sang put an important thing into my hat5. Please come to get it soon.”
6about half an hour, a (an)7man went there in a hurry, “Oh ,it's you . You did come here.” The young violinist asked8, “Are you Mr. George Sang?” “Yes! Yes!” Then the violinist asked , “Did you lose something?” “Lottery(彩票). It's the most valuable lottery in my 70 years of life,” said the man.
The violinist 9a lottery ticket. George Sang's name was on it, so the violinist10it to him.
Later someone asked the violinist, “Since you11play the violin every day to make your tuition(学费) in the university, why didn't you keep the lottery ticket for yourself?” The violinist said, “12I don't have much money, I live happily; but if I lose honesty, I won't be happy forever.”

This blue curly hair looks like the waves of the sea. Its smile is a sign of the
healthy spirit of China. Those thumbs-up (翘拇指) will welcome millions to Shanghai from around the world.
It is Haibao, the mascot(吉祥物) of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition. “It's very cute,” said Gu Weiyi, a school kid. “I want a big toy like the mascot.”
Haibao looks like the Chinese word ren, which means people or a person. The name comes from the Chinese phrases “Sihai Zhi Bao”- the treasure of the four seas. Haibao also means the treasure of Shanghai, which lies beside the sea.
Haibao was made by two artists , one from the mainland and the other from Taiwan. The design is about people living together in in the city. The designers want it to fit in with the theme of the Shanghai Exposition: Better City, Better Life.
Something was crying outside. So I went out to see what was happening. A big cat sat by the door. It must run for a long time as it looked tired and dirty. I let it in my house and took out some food; this poor cat ate all, but still looked starving…, so I got my own cats' fish, and the cat ate that too!
My five-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter were interested in the cat. They bathed (给……洗澡) it and fed it more food. They wanted to it. But I didn't agree. It was not because I didn't love it. We already had 2 cats and 2 dogs and our house was not big enough to keep more. Another reason was that I thought maybe it got lost. And its owner (主人) must be worried about it. Then I posted notices all over the town in the hope of finding its home. I also bought an ad (广告)time on a radio station. Three weeks passed, but there was no response (答复).
Finally, I decided to keep the cat. Our house was small, but I would take good care of it as possible as I could.
The famous scientists and thinker, Charles Darwin, was born on February 12, 1809. As a boy, Charles liked to go for walks in the fields and forests. He enjoyed watching nature, and comparing what he saw with everything he had read in science books. He also liked collecting very much. He collected many things, birds, eggs, stones and leaves.
At sixteen Darwin was sent to Edinburgh University to become a doctor. But he was interested in the history of nature.
Then he was sent to study in Cambridge University. There he studied until 1831.
Some time later he heard that the ship Beagle was going on a trip to South America and wanted a scientist. His teacher advised him to go. So when the Beagle left England in December, 1831, Darwin was on it.
The trip lasted almost five years. Darwin saw many new plants and animals. He collected all kinds of plants.
In 1842 Darwin went to live in Kent, and there he continued his studies of change in nature. Darwin understood that plants and animals are not always the same, and that they really change.
By 1859 Darwin had finished his famous book “ the Origin of Species”.
Twelve years later, Darwin wrote another important book“The Theory of Evolution”.
Darwin continued his studies in science until he died in 1882.
