My favorite place in the world was Mrs. Wade's bookstore. Mrs. Wade knew everything about words and I loved 1, too.
Mrs. Wade usually gave me new books to read. She even told me stories about the 2. For this reason, I decided to be a writer when I grew up, I'd always 3 I was a famous writer and read to Mrs. Wade. She listened with her 4 closed. Sometimes she would open her eyes and say, "Words are a very powerful gift, Destiny. "
I wasn't sure what she meant, 5I felt it very important!
Then one day Mrs. Wade told me that she might have to close the store.
"Close? But 6?" I cried.
"There just aren't enough customers, "she said,
No! I couldn't believe it! I felt terribly 7. I told Mama about the store.
"I know what the store means to you, "Mama said. "Maybe we can do 8 to help. "
Days later, we held a huge block party. At the party, I helped Mrs. Wade 9boxes of books, almost forgetting to feel sad. Almost!
10an idea came to me! I ran home, took out a notebook and started to write. The moment I wrote down everything I loved 11 Mrs. Wade's store, I ran back.
"I have a present for you, Mrs, Wade. "I 12 the notebook to her.
She opened it and saw "Mrs. Wade's Bookstore, by Destiny Crawford". Her eyes lit up!
"Why don't you 13 it to me?" Mrs. Wade asked.
I was reading every word. Mrs. Wade was listening with her eyes closed. She was so 14. When I finished, she gave me a big, long hug.
"Words are a powerful gift, " she said again.
That time 15came to understand exactly what she meant.
Mrs. Wade and I don't know if the store will close, but we will keep reading and writing all words we can!

What do you usually do in your free time? Play sports? Watch TV? How about reading books? You must know the Chinese saying: "Read thousands of books; travel thousands of miles" . Books are important in our life. Reading books is good for us. It can help us know and understand the world better. It can help us get a lot of knowledge. It brings us a new and different world that we have never been before. Almost all the great men like reading, like Chairman Mao and Madame Curie.
In a word, books are treasure and we must love them. But before you read, remember to choose a good one. Ask your parents or teachers about what books to read. Be sure you are interested in them. There are many different kinds of books. I like biography because I can learn something from the characters.
What about you? Young friends. Please love books and read them. They are very helpful to you.
At weekends and on holidays, when many Chinese teenagers learn things like painting and the piano, kids in the USA are playing sports.
According to Time for Kids, more US teenagers have joined sports clubs in recent years. Many families spend a lot of money on their children's sports.
Alex Stearns is an eighth-grader at a high school. The 16-year-old boy has been playing baseball since he was five. He plays it every other day. He told TEENS that his family spends over $1, 200 on his equipment(设备) and $300 on training each year.
Tristan Silveira, 16, from California, also plays baseball. He pays around $50 for every lesson he takes. "My mum drives me to every practice, every game, " he said.
Playing sports can bring many benefits. Teenagers can take part in competitions. The top players in these competitions usually get full athletic scholarships for college. Brigid Selfors, 17, a runner at Mercy High School, has received a full scholarship to Tulane University. Selfors runs three seasons a year. She has won the State Open and other competitions for many times.
However, there are negative(负面的) things about playing sports. Studies show that early learning in one sport increases the risk of injury and depression(抑郁). Poor families can't afford to pay the costs, reported Time for Kids.
It was last January, when I'd just finished a charity (慈善) and was on the train back home, that I put down my phone and started writing thank﹣you notes to people who had helped,
When I got off the train, I felt amazingly good. The next day, I wrote more thank﹣yous and the same feeling of happiness hit me again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year?
To keep on task, I decided to pick out a different theme for each month. January was charity. February would be neighbors, I decided. And I thought of a number of names right away: the owner of our local bookstore, who let me and my little son in before the store opened and offered to play his favorite songs;our babysitter, who dropped off a bag of old board games for our kids to play; …
While writing the notes, I realized how often I had spent my time on the phone moving from app to app, appreciating (欣赏) other people's lives. Writing thank﹣you notes allowed me the time to do something different, paying more attention to my own life.
In the following months, I wrote to my friends, doctors, teachers and parenting role models. In July, my"food" month, I wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favorite restaurant. It went like this:
Dear Julie,
I've been finding myself missing you lately. Thank you for hosting me and cooking beautiful and thoughtful food. Jake and I will never forget when you sent out biscuits shaped into the number VI for our sixth anniversary(周年纪念日). We talk about it every year.
Thank you. We miss you.
Love,
Gina
I was happy to receive a note back from her. Julie replied, "I don't think I've ever received such a touching letter before, I' m going through a hard time right now, and this helps. "
On December 31, I wrote my last card-- to Jake, my husband, and our two kids. And I took a picture of us, so I could remember the feeling welling up inside me. Gratitude.

What is the best way to learn a language? We should remember that we all learned our own language well when we were (child). If we could learn a (two) language in the same way, it would not seem so difficult to learn it well. Think of a small child does. It listens to what people say and(try) to imitate what it hears. When it wants something, it has to ask it. It is using the language, (talk) in it and thinking in it all time. If people could always use the language they could learn it (quick). We learn our own language through hearing people speak it, not by(see) what they write. We imitate what we hear. In school, though you learn to read and write as as to listen and speak, it is much better to learn all the new words by the ear. You can read them, speak them and write them later.
