While I was jumping rope, my smartphone took a fall to the floor which created cracks (裂缝)on my screen. However, the music kept playing. 30 minutes later, I could see only one-tenth of my screen while the rest was black. The next morning, I decided not to use it for 24 hours. I felt a sense of calm that day, which led to my not using it for one week. One week ended up becoming 60 days in total without my smartphone.
Here are some advantages I noticed in this challenge.
—You'll become "bored"
Without my phone, I became bored, but my mind when through all kinds of topics, Boredom (无聊) is a perfect way to create new ideas on a business or project. When you are bored, you allow your mind to relax to reach all possibilities.
—You'll be able to reduce your "work" hours
A survey found that adults checked their smartphones 85 times a day, or once every 10 minutes. As I learned in my challenge, by not having my smartplhone, I fell into deep work no easily, so I completed my tasks in a shorter time.
—You'll improve your mental health
Without my phone, I avoided reading negative (负面的) news and comment. While that helped make a big improvement in my mental health, the biggest reason for it Was truly communicating with people. It brought me more connections with humans in the real world. I went to more dinners with friends and asked more questions to strangers.
It was Saturday again. Lily and Lucy disliked Saturdays. That was another thing the twins had in common. They shared the same clothes and tied their hair in the same manner. In fact, it was hard for their classmates and teachers to tell them apart sometimes.
Unlike their classmates, they had to get up early at seven every Saturday to prepare for their lessons. Lily had to attend the art lesson and Lucy had to attend her ballet lesson. "How I wish I could do something different today, " said the twins with one voice. All at once, an idea came to Lily and Lucy al the same time. "Do you have the same idea as me?" they asked each other and laughed. It seemed like a wonderful plan to them. After giving each other a description of their own friends, Lily put on Lucy's ballet dress while Lucy put Lily's brushes and paints into her bag. Then they left for their classes.
When the art lesson started, Lucy couldn't understand the art teacher Unlike Lily, Lucy was poor at drawing. When the art lesson finally ended, Lucy didn't dare to hand in her work.
Meanwhile, Lily was struggling in the ballet class as well. As she had no idea about the dance steps, she had to follow her classmates blindly. As a result, she kept knocking into them Their ballet teacher became impatient with her, "Lucy, you should remember the basic steps. You can't depend on copying what others are doing."
When Lily and Lucy arrived home, they were tired out. They decided that they would never try to be someone else that they were not.
Last Saturday, I went to a coffee shop to meet a friend of mine. I got there ten minutes earlier.
So I ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window. watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the road.
Suddenly. there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked(刹车)hard, But it was too late … The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone's surprise, the car didn't stop. It drove away quickly.
People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy's head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance(救护车)arrived and took the boy to the hospital. At 6:30 pm, the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn't leave the police station until 8:00pm. After that I went home because I didn't want to talk to anyone.
The next day, the boy's parents called me to say thanks. They also told me their boy was fine and the driver was at the police station now.

Following the rule of "social distancing" is probably well-known to us all now. It refers to staying away from crowded places to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Some companies are taking ad-vantage of this by changing their logos.
Coca-Cola, for example, placed the letters of its famous brand further away from each other to show social distancing. The encouraging sentence "Today, being apart is the best way of being together." is printed below the logo. McDonald's Brazil has separated its famous arches(拱门)in a picture posted on its Facebook page. Other global companies, including Audi and Nike, have also posted similar logo changes online.
Although many people think this idea is creative, some believe it makes "social distancing "seem less serious. What do you think of it?
Computers are widely used in the world. As students, we can not only use them to relax, but also study online. Do you have any online classes? It is possible to take classes at home. All you need is a computer and an earphone.
However, most students don't seem to like online classes. Recently, over 2000 students from 10 cities took part in a survey. According to the survey, only about 35 percent of the students like taking such classes.
Many students said it was hard to focus on studying while taking online classes. This was true for Li Jing, 15, at No. 1 High School. "There are no classmates and no real teachers watching me. I can surf the Internet or do other things if I want to. It's harder to always stay focused," she said.
Li Jing prepares a lot before taking her classes to make sure she will keep her attention. She also pushes herself to communicate with teachers. Students can come up with or answer questions while taking online classes.
Tian Lishan, 14, at No. 7 High School, thinks online interaction (互动) isn't enough. "The online teachers don't really get to know me. When I don't hand in homework, all I get is a short message instead of real concern," she said.
However, online classes still have advantages. "It saves time and money compared with taking offline classes. Also, if I don't understand some parts of a lesson, I can watch it over again," Li Jing sad.
①save time ②hard to focus ③enough interaction
④save money ⑤watch lessons over again

In the reading club. After reading a good book, maybe you can't wait to share it with your friends. It's really amazing to talk about a good book. Everyone has his own ideas about the book. You can learn more by sharing a book. Peter |
In a coffee shop. The taste of coffee smells so nice! On sunny days, you can enjoy the sunshine through the window. On rainy days, you can listen to the sound of rain. Also, you can watch different people pass by. They may walk into your book and become part of it. Linda |
Joe Connor comes from Kinsley and works in an office in Kansas City. His job is a typical nine-to-five, Monday-to-Friday job. So at the weekend, he does something different. He likes traveling but he works as a volunteer too. He helps different people for free. Every weekend, there's a new project.
This weekend, Joe is helping to build a house. You can see him in the photo. He's moving a large blue panel(板子). It's part of a wall. Joe isn't a professional builder, but that's the interesting thing about this project. The other people are" weekend builders" too. These "weekend builders" are from the small town of Greensburg in Kansas. A year ago, a tornado(龙卷风) hit their town. After the tornado, the community started a project to build new homes. The project is for 30 new homes. They get some help from a building company and a group of volunteers. Joe says," I heard about the tornado and the new project. I knew some people in Greensburg. I wanted to help." Joe's friends are here this weekend too. They're working with Jill and Scott.
Jill and Scott are both from Pratt, and they are building their" dream house". Jill (on the right) is standing near his new house. He's holding a part of the new wall. They're making the house that can fight against tornadoes ﹣that's why it has an unusual shape.
Their house is almost ready, so next weekend, Joe is moving to a different project. Why does he do? "Though busy, I can help people. I can make friends and that is fun! So, why not?" he says.
Please Take my Children to Work Day(PTCW Day) first began as a holiday for hard-working and tired stay-at-home mothers to take a day off. Now, this day is fit for any parent. Kamehameha Day is held on June 11 each year. Kamehameha the Great was the monarch(君主) of Hawaii. He is famous and respected for establishing(建立) the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810.Kamehameha Day is a public holiday in Hawaii, and this is a day off for people School and most businesses are closed.

What subject do you worry about the most at school? Many students worry about math. Some students can't sleep well the day before a math exam. Others may feel very nervous during the exam itself. But there might be a way to make the subject less stressful(压力大的).
"For people who are worried about math, posture (姿势) makes a big difference," Erik Paper from San Francisco State University told the Daily Mail. That's right – sitting up straight can help you do better on math exams.
Scientists tested 125 college students. They asked them to do a simple math exam while sitting in a slumped-over (趴倒的) posture, or sitting up straight. After the test, 56 percent of students said the exam was easier to do if they were sitting up straight.
Slumping over is a defensive(戒备的) posture. It can bring about bad memories in the body and brain. This can stop you from thinking clearly, Paper said.
Students who were not nervous about taking the math exam did not necessarily benefit(受益) from better posture. But they did find that doing math while slumped over was more difficult, Science Daily reported.
Good posture isn't just helpful for taking math exams. Sportspeople, musicians and public speakers can all benefit from better posture. When you feel stressed out, you can also try to sit up straight or stand tall. It can help you feel more certain and focus better.
Steve was waiting for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn't – the girl with a rose. She was his pen friend. She had helped him a lot both in study and life. They planned their first meeting for 7 pm at Grand Central Station in New York.
“You'll find me,” she wrote, “by the red rose I'll be wearing on my coat.” So at 7 pm he was in the station looking for the girl with a red rose.
A young woman was coming towards him. She was wearing a green coat and was everything that he hoped Miss Maynell would be. But there was no red rose. Then a plain-looking (相貌平平的) woman walked past. She was well past 40 years old. On her coat there was a red rose.
He did not hesitate (犹豫). “I'm Steve Blanchard, and you must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet me. May I take you to dinner?” he asked.
A kind smile appeared on the woman's face. “I don't know what this is about, son,” she answered, “But the young lady in the green coat who just went by asked me to wear this rose on my coat. She said if you asked me out to dinner, I should tell you that she is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was a kind of test!”
