If you want to see a thing well, touching can help you to "see" it better.
Your eyes can tell you that a glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is. You can feel how heavy the glass ball is. When you learn all these about the ball, you really see it well.
With your skin, you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell the difference between two different coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too. You can even feel sounds against your skin. Have you ever wanted to know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.
All children soon learn what "Don't touch!" means. They hear it often. But most of us keep on touching things as we grow up. In shops, we touch things that we might buy. To se something well, we have to touch it. The bottoms (底部) of our feet can feel things, too. You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a hard floor. All fe different under your feet.
Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch. Their signs say, "Do touch!" There you can feel everything on show.
There are ways of learning to see well by feeing. One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin. Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin.
If you want to see better, reach out and touch it. Then you will really see!
Special Alex is a great cartoon (卡通) movie. Alex was a giraffe (长颈鹿) in a zoo. As he grew, his neck was much shorter than the others'. He became upset. His mother said to him, "You are special. Your neck is good. You don't have to worry about it. "
Alex tried not to think about this. But as his friends grew taller and taller, his neck stayed short. Sometimes they laughed at him. His parents told him not to worry and enjoyed himself. He tried. He could not even play in some giraffe sports. He was too short.
One cool day, a worker in a zoo came and took Alex away. Alex was afraid. "Would I have to leave the zoo because of my short neck?" Alex was very sad. After the worker calmed Alex down, he gave him some food. And he was kind to Alex. Alex felt better. Then the worker took Alex into another area of the zoo. There was a small door between the two areas. This door was only suitable for Alex to pass through.
Soon Alex's parents came to see him. "My dear, you are special," his mother said. "The z workers made a place for you because people wanted to see you. How special you are!" She was right. Visitors pointed to him and screamed. They looked happy to se such a special animal in the zoo.
In Thailand, people do not eat with chopsticks, like in China, Japan and Korea. They use spoons and forks. Because most food is already cut. If you need to cut things, use the side of your spoon. If you are right-handed, keep the spoon in your right hand and the fork in your left hand.
The rice is not on the same plate with the other food. It is not necessary to finish all your rice or all your food. It is good to leave a little on your plate. If you eat everything, it means you want more.
The host will ask you two or three times if you want more food. It is the same with whatever you are drinking. During the meal, never empty your cup or glass. When it is less than half full, your host or neighbor will fill it again. Always refill (再加满) your neighbor's glass. This means that you must keep an eye on your neighbor's glass all through the meal.
