Have you ever wondered what is hiding deep in the ocean? Now, Victor Vescovo can tell the1. And he was sad by what he found.
Vescovo is from the United States. He dived(潜水) ten kilometres into the Pacific Ocean. He went2than anyone had gone before, only to discover rubbish.
Vescovo3plastic things there. One had writing on it." "It was very unhappy to see plastic things. It shows human4has reached the deepest point in the ocean,"Vescovo said.
Vescovo also found many5new animals. He saw some shrimp-like animals6long legs. There were also "sea pigs"". they look like the sea cucumbers(海参).
However, Vescovo said he cared most7about the plastic things. The ocean has long been used as a big dustbin. More than 100 million tons of8waste has been thrown into the ocean. This has caused a big problem. Whales and other sea animals are eating the plastic waste.
Vescovo hoped his discovery would9changes. He wanted more people to know plastic pollution. He said governments should do more to10further pollution. People shouldn't throw rubbish here and there.
There was once a rich man who loved his little boy very much. He wanted to try his best to please him. So, he gave him a horse to ride, beautiful rooms lo live in, pictures, books, toys and everything that money could buy. But for all days, the little boy was still unhappy. He wore a frown(皱眉) wherever he went, he always wished for something he did not have. The man didn't know how to make his son happy.
One day, a magician came to the man and said to him, can make your son happy and turn his frowns into smiles, but you must pay me a great price for telling him the secret.
"All right. "said the man, "No matter what you ask for, I'll give you. " The magician took the boy into a secret room. He wrote something on a piece of paper, and then gave it to the boy. Thereon the paper came he words, "Do one kind thing for someone every day." The boy followed the advice and became one of the happiest boys.
Only those who stop thinking about their own happiness can be truly happy.

"I spent my whole life doing one thing", Gu Fangzhou once said. Known as "the father of sugar pills(糖丸)", Gu passed away at the age of 92 on January 2nd, 2019.Eight months later, he received a national honorary title(荣誉称号)" the People's Scientist" for his polio(脊髓灰质炎) research.
Gu Fangzhou, a famous medical scientist, was born in June, 1926. Gu's family faced a difficulttime with the sudden death of his father. He studied hard and finally entered Peking University as a medical student in 1944.After graduation, Gu made the decision to work to help improve public health.
In 1955, polio broke out in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. It paralyzed(使瘫痪) 1,680 people, mostly children aged under seven. It spread to neighboring areas and resulted in 466 deaths. Gu was asked to lead polio research in 1957."At that time the only way to prevent polio was to invent a vaccine(疫苗),"said Gu.
In 1959, Gu succeeded in developing the first polio live vaccine. Later, he developed the "sugar-coated pill" vaccine in the early 1960s. It not only tasted better but was more affordable and easier to keep. In order to test the vaccine, Gu himself tried the vaccine and later his one-month- old son was vaccinated. This inspired his team to vaccinate their kids. They became the first group of people in China to try a polio vaccine. "If we don't believe in what we produce, how can others believe in it? " said Gu.
Gradually, the sugar-coated polio vaccine was made available in China. It saved millions of people, especially kids, from being disabled. In 2000,the World Health Organization(WHO) announced that China was already a polio-free country." We feel satisfied. I can tell people that It ried my best, and your kids will no longer get polio," said Gu."That's all we hoped for."

Do you have trouble trying to create the next big idea? Sometimes the answer isn't to just force an idea out of your mind. Instead, you might want to try sitting back, relaxing and letting your mind wander(走神).Yes, you heard that correctly. If you are in need of a new idea, try daydreaming.
Researchers from the University of California,Santa Barbara, found an association(联系) between daydreaming and creative problem-solving. Their study includes having participants(参与者) first do an "unusual-use task". They had to try to come up with as many different ways to use an object as they could.
Then, the participants chose to do one of the following four things before doing the" unusual-use task" again: Complete a difficult task; complete an easy task; take a 12 --minute break; or skip (跳过)12-minute break and move right on to the task exercise again.
Surprisingly, the group that performed best was the one that completed the easy task. Many participants reported that they were daydreaming while performing the easy task. So the researchers believed that this daydreaming might have helped unlock their creativity.
But how could daydreaming help the brain come up with creative ways? The answer is something known as "unconscious thought". Even when you are not actively working to solve a problem, it is still in the back of your mind. Your brain is still thinking about the problem, but in a much more subtle(不易察觉的) way.
When you daydream, your mind is allowed to think in ways it normally would not. Because itis free of control, it can create completely new and out-of-the-box ideas.
Great ideas never come easily, but that does not mean you always have to work hard to get them. Feel free to do what you want and let your mind wander.
