The next morning, as Jennie6at the window again, she saw George with a handful of beautify flowers carefully nicking his wav across the street. He stopped in front of her window, smiling pleasantly, and said," Can I come in" Jennie told him7to get into the house.

Opening the door to Jennie's gentle "Come in", George said, "I've brought you some flowers."

"Are they for me" said Jennie8"How kind you are," she continued, as George put the flowers on her lap. I've 9 received any flower since we moved to the town."

"Did you live in the countryside?" asked George, 10 the old, small and empty room.

"Yes," said Jennie.

Jennie used to have a happy family and live in a beautiful house in the countryside. However, she lost her right leg in an accident. She11walk like other people any longer. Later, her father died, and her mother was sick12so many years that their money was all gone. They sold the house, and move here to get work to do.

Chen Xingzhu in Shenzhen also has a story to tell. The 15-year-old girl is not good at doing sit-ups(仰卧起坐), which is necessary for the high school PE entrance exam. One has to do at least 35 sit-ups in a minute to pass the test. Most of Chen's classmates can do 40. However, Chen could only do 20.

Feeling worried, Chen decided to do something. She did sit-ups for half an hour every day after school. Now, after a month, she can do 30 sit-ups a minute.

"l finally found what made me slow through continuous practice and then improved little by little, "said Chen. "I believe next month I will be able to do 40!"

We are often told to pay attention to what our mothers tell us. Most of us enjoy listening to our mothers speak. Scientists have found that compared to other people's voices, our brains greatly prefer the voices of our own mothers.

Scientists at Stanford University, US, recently studied this. They scanned (扫描)children's brains while they were listening to different sounds, including their mother' voices. They found that 97 percent of the time, children could recognize(识别) their mothers' voices at once.

Hearing their mothers' voices makes children's brains more active. We usually just use one part of our brain to deal with sounds when we hear something. But when we hear our mother' voices, many parts of the brain, including those in charge of(负责) reward (奖赏) and emotion(情感), start to work as well.

Why do we react so strongly to our mother' voices? _________▲_________ . When children are still in the womb(子宫) or have just been born, they hear their mothers talking. This makes babies feel comfortable and teaches them language and social skills, even though they are still very young. The babies learn to recognize their mothers' voices as a rewarding sound. Later, when this sound is heard again, more attention is paid to it.

Some sounds are necessary for our survival or bring us pleasure. These sounds are recognized by our brains as rewarding sounds. Most human voices are not recognized in this way, since we hear them so often.

But mothers' voices are different. They bring us a lot of comfort.

①An old woman had two large pots, one on each end of a pole. She carried the pole with the pots across her neck.

②One of the pots had a crack (裂缝) in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered (递送) a full pot of water. There are lots of people who I admire in the world. Out of all of them, I admire my (祖父) the most. He works for the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a geographer. When he was young, he often (旅行) around the country - not for sightseeing, but for topographic surveying (地形测绘) It was a difficult and (危险的) job. He had to climb many mountains with heavy equipment to (画画) an exact map of our country.

One day, I asked my grandfather, "Why did you (选择) such a hard job?"

"Because I am a (成员) of the CPC," My grandfather answered. "Wherever the Party asks us to go, we will go. I always think it is my (骄傲) and honor to serve my country."

Since then, I have (学会) that it is the CPC who brings us today's good life with tens of millions of communists just like my grandfather. (作为)a younger generation of China, what I can do is try my best to study (努力) so that in the future I can make my own contributions to my great country.

English writing plays an important role in learning English. Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective (way) to improve our English writing abilities. Nowadays, more and more people care about health. There are many kinds of sports to make your body in good condition. First, you can run, lift weights, do yoga, take classes-there are tons of choices. Any exercise is better than none, and if you're reeling out of shape, try doing a little more than whatever you're current doing. Second, sleeping is also an important element. There are entire industries that sell things to people who don't have enough energy. You could buy their vitamins, or you could just get enough sleep in the first place. Most people need between six and nine hours. The way to get more sleep is usually just to rearrange your morning and evening schedule to allow yourself enough time. Furthermore, there are many healthy ways to eat, so don't worry too much about whether you're found the best one. All of the healthy meals involves lots of fruits and vegetables, and not too much sugar. If you are trying to lose weight, you should form the habit of eating a non-crappy diet and cutting down your calorie intake.
