It happened when I was a little girl. I can remember neither the beginning the end, but whenever I think of it, tears run down my face.
When I was young, my family led a hard life in the country. As you can imagine, many country roads are to walk on. One evening we were visiting some relatives and the was very had.it began to rain on our way back home. Dad carried me on his . Mom gave her overcoat to my brother. We walked together through the rain for than an hour.
I was fat at that time and ad must be tired to hold me for such a long time. He almost many times. In hope of reducing my father's burden(负担), I tried to carry myself, l achieved nothing since I was just a little kid.
When we arrived home, the inside of our house was with rain water. The rain had come through our leaky(有裂缝的)roof and water was everywhere. Mom put bowls ail around the house to try to the rain. Then she put me and my brother to bed, carefully placing us on the reimagining dry place. I fell asleep soon. When l opened my eyes, I found Dad and Mom were in chairs, both having caught bad colds.
This is my very earliest memory. Though the evening has long passed, and now we live a happy life, I won't forget the rain we went together. The rain, that evening, and especially my parents love, will stay in my mind forever.

At home. "East or west, home is the best." Home is the warmest place in the world. You can lie on the sofa or just sit on the floor. Quietly, you can enjoy reading books like talking with good friends. |

In the reading club. After reading a good book, maybe you can't wait to share it with your friends. It's really amazing to talk about a good book. Everyone has his own ideas about the book. You can learn more by sharing. |

In a coffee shop. The taste of coffee smells so nice! On sunny days, you can enjoy the sunshine through the window. On rainy days, you can listen to the sound of rain. Also, you can watch different people pass by. They may walk into your book and become part of it. |
It was a cold evening. I was in a restaurant wearing a pair of new black shoes when a boy of ten came to me. He was in an old large shirt, "Excuse me, sir! Could I clean your shoes?" the boy asked. "Yes. please," I answered.
The boy was busy doing his work when a heavy rain began. More, and more people rushed in and I could not find the boy. Several hours? passed, I thought the boy would not return my shoes. When it was near midnight the rain stopped. As the restaurant was to be closed, I had to move to the door.
To my surprise, at the door, I found the boy was sleeping without his old large shirt. He held a package wrapped(包裹) by his shirt in his arms. I shook him and woke him up. He jumped up and cleaned his eyes for a while before he recognized(认出) me. Then he opened the package hurriedly, gave my shoes back to me, and said, "I am sorry, sir." "It doesn't matter." I said. Then I thanked him and wrapped him with his un-fit shirt. On my way home, the boy still stayed in my mind.
①The boy held the package and slept at the door.
②The writer met a boy in the restaurant.

Dogs can be good helpers to humans and what about monkeys? They can do a great job, too. Monkeys can help disabled people live a better life just as dogs do.
Like dogs, monkeys need lots of training to be human helpers. One difference is that monkeys live longer than dogs do. This means that a monkey's "childhood" is also longer than a dog's. So it may take them four to six years before they are ready to begin training. It's said that it is almost as much work as raising a young child!
After monkeys begin training, they usually take about a year to learn enough tasks to be good helpers. One important thing that they need to learn is how to follow commands(命令).For example, if a person wants to have the lights turned on, he or she might give the command "sun". As the monkeys get better at completing their tasks, they learn new and more difficult ones some monkeys can even learn how to use a computer!
My father, who was always drunk and angry, beat me more and more every day. He always locked the door when he went away and kept the key in his pocket. One day l found an old saw (锯) that he hid in the roof. When I was alone in the house,
The next day my father said, "Huck, go to the river and catch some fish for break-fast. Quickly! And don't try anything. Remember, I'm watching you!"
While l was fishing by the river.
"A boat!" I thought. happily, "This is my chance to run away. I'll hide the boat near some trees and use it tonight! "
When my father went to town that afternoon, I got my saw and started to work on the hole. It was late afternoon when I finished making the hole.
"l did a good job,"" I thought, looking at the hole. "Now I'll get my father's gun. I have a plan..."
l looked outside the window and there was nobody there. Then I ran into the woods to hunt a wild pig. Luckily, I found one. I .shot it and took it back to the house and let the pig's blood fall on the wooden floor of the house. Then I pulled some of my hair out and put it on my father's ax(斧子) with some of the pig's blood. I took the pig's body outside and put it in a big bag with some rocks,
"This way people will think the pig's blood is mine and I'm dead!" I thought." This idea made me smile.
I waited until it was dark and got into the boat and went to Jackson's Island. I knew about Jackson's Island because Tom, Ben, Joe and I had a good time there.
A. I quickly ran away through the hole. B. They'll come and look for my body in the river. C. and threw it into the river. D. I started to make a hole on the floor under the big table. E. I saw an empty boat nearby. |
When Emma and her family went out to dinner, they always went to their favorite restaurant. Their favorite restaurant was an Italian restaurant, and they usually went there once a week.
One week when they were getting ready to go out to dinner, Emma's dad suggested they try the new Chinese restaurant in 1own, but Emma and her little brother Josh both disagreed.
"You might actually end up liking it if you give it a try," said their mom. Their dad added, "Let's try it once, and if you don't like it, we can go back to the Italian restaurant." Emma and Josh agreed and got into the back seat of the car.
When they arrived at the Chinese restaurant, a waiter met them at the door and greeted them with a smile. He led them to a table. The restaurant looked pretty cool, and the waiter was very nice. He told them what some of his favorite dishes were. Emma and Josh took his advice and ordered their dishes. Soon the dishes were ready. After Emma and Josh tasted them, they both said," You are right, Mom. The food here is pretty delicious."
When the meal was over, Emma said, "l think I have another favorite restaurant." Josh agreed and asked," When shall we come here again?" "On Children's Day," said Emma's mom with a smile.

But the thing is, I really don't want to do the wrong thing while I'm there and especially at the school, so I'm wondering if you could tell me a bit about the rules about phones, clothes, food... Could you send me a quick email? 1'd love to hear from you. love, Bruce |

Re: Exchange Visit! |
Hi Bruce, Thanks for your email. I'm looking forward to the exchange, too! You really don't have to worry a lot about the school here. But there are a few things you need to know. We usually uniforms on school days. you may wear the clothes that are suitable. And it'll be kind of cold when you are here, so you'd better bring some clothes. We are not allowed to use mobile phones school. Besides, if we bring food to school, we must eat it outside during the break. Hope this helps. love, Li Lei |
