Since last March, I have been visiting a pet clinic because of my cat Eddie. The clinic is in northern Massachusetts, about two hours from our home on Cape Cod. I expected it would be terrible depressing but it's just the opposite. I have been so surprised at what I have learned there.
Now I believe happiness is something to love in any form. If I've ever know an angel, it is Keri, Eddie's technician. Both Eddie and I are under her loving care. She gives Eddie his medicines. She gives me emotional guidance as well.
I can offer tell when it's someone's first visit. They're usually crying. I think the reason why the rest of us don't cry has nothing to do with hope. I think it has to do with another ingredient of happiness. When we think about our pet's distant future, even if they're healthy, will feel sad. Keri, in her prayerful voice says, "Focus on loving Eddie right now." "Right now" is the only way people think at her clinic.
Instant connection is what happens in the waiting room. We join together to tenderly life a lame dog. We take turns distracting a cat with sparkly toys so she doesn't chew her bandage. Nobody asks for help. Everybody offers. We just do it.
When the end of life is very near, owners often believe their pet's happiness is more important than something like a strict diet. A young fellow whose pet dog suffers from canner says, "He can have anything he wants now." So I guess an element of happiness is not so much the length of a life but the joy and peace that life contains.
At this place, the focus is not on dying, and it's not on living. The focus, for pets and for people, is on living happily.
Even if you don't have to work, eat or sleep, you won't be able to get through all information on blogs and social networks. The problem we face is that much of this information seems very interesting at first glance. Actually, much of the information is unimportant, disposable and it distracts(分心)us from more meaningful pursuits. Worse still, when we spend lots of time consuming information from our social media streams, we may find it hard to concentrate on what we're doing and we have a tendency to forget what we have consumed anyway.
A new study from Sweden's KTH Royal Institute of Technology has found that too much social media exposure actually reduces your ability to process information and depletes your short-term working memory.
Our working memory plays a critical role in our capacity to filter information and remember what is valuable but it is not a limitless resource. Erik Fransén, a professor in Computer Science at KTH and the leader of this new study on social media overload says this can explain why our capacity for processing information begins to fail when we attempt to stuff more information in the working memory.
In fact, when you try to process the information like speech or video, you are going to need partly the same system of working memory, so you are reducing your own working memory capacity. And when you try to store many things in your working in your working memory, you get less good at processing information.
It is the periods of downtime of your brain—preferably disconnected from the distractions of your computer or smart phone—that are needed for memory consolidation and transferring important information to your exposure to new information. Besides, you can empty your mind of thoughts quickly to relax completely, go for a short walk or spend few minutes listening to music. This will help you improve your capacity to process information and increase your productivity.
Aspirin was discovered in 1897, and an explanation of how it works followed in 1995. That, in turn, has encouraged some research leads on making better pain relievers through something other than trial and error. This kind of discovery—answers first, explanations later—is called "intellectual debt ". We gain understanding of what works without knowing why it works. We can put that understanding to use immediately, and then tell ourselves we'll figure out the details later. Sometimes we pay off the debt quickly; sometimes, as with aspirin, it takes a century; and sometimes we never pay it off at all.
In the Age of Intelligence, while machine learning presents lots of problems and gets things wrong, at least we know enough to be wary of the predictions produced by the system and to argue that they shouldn't be blindly followed: but if a system performs perfectly (and we don't know why), then we come to rely on it and forget about it and suffer consequences when it goes wrong.
It's the difference between knowing your car has faulty brakes and not knowing: both are bad, but if you know there is a problem with your brakes, you can increase your following distance, drive slowly and get to a mechanic as soon as possible. If you don't know, you're likely to find out the hard way, at 80mph on the highway when the car in front of you came to a sudden stop and your brakes give out.
We don't have much by way of solutions. Most important, we shouldn't trick ourselves into thinking that machine learning alone is all that matters. Indeed, without life value, machine learning may not be meaningful answers at all.
How to test best
It's back to school, which means it's back to tests, which might also means it's back to being majorly stressed out. Here are some simple ways to prepare thoroughly for tests.
Schedule study time.
Trying to do all studying the night before a test makes it impossible to master all the materials. Instead, prepare for a test by scheduling study time each day for several days before.
Use your time wisely.
Also, make sure you have all the supplies (用具) you need to study so you don't lose focus. While studying, be sure to make regular short breaks. Get a snack, take a bathroom break or play a quick computer game when it feels as if your brain is about to explode.
Studying with a parent or friends can help you understand the material better and to learn from one another. Have every person or pair take a part of the material, and come up with questions to quiz the group. Keep the group small. Have everyone take turns as the group leader, who will assign the material, and make sure that conversation stays on what is being studied.
Don't forget last-minute preparation.
Have your sharpened pencils and other things in your bag ready the night before the test. It's important to get a good night's sleep and then eat a healthy breakfast the next morning. Also, studying all the way up until test time can only create more anxiety. Stop studying an hour beforehand.
A. Form a study group.
B. Stay cool before the test.
C. It doesn't have to be this way.
D. This will help you store important information.
E. This way, both your mind and body are fully prepared.
F. Before studying, clear your desk so you can concentrate.
G. It will also make you tired and stressed on the day of the test.
Simply saying thank you doesn't seem enough in certain situations. I was considering this while working as a1just a few weeks ago. And it came to me then how much easier it would be if we had a range of words that express different 2of gratitude (感谢).
My thoughts were soon 3. We had a woman patient who was 4 from a knee replacement operation. One afternoon, while 5to get into bed she collapsed (倒下) from what was 6discovered to be a heart attack. The collapse was disastrous, 7 the emergency medical team and good teamwork. But she recovered, though 8 , and was ready for discharge (出院)after four weeks.
She was 9 for everything that the medical and nursing team had done for her. On her day of discharge, we shared in her 10 at her recovery. As she was 11 she was eager to say12 to each of us in the nursing team. When she 13 one nurse, she tried to press a five-pound note into her hand. My colleague14 to accept it, saying that we were all just 15 our job. The patient looked puzzled, and then16: "Oh this isn't for the 17I had. I take that as a 18. No, this is for setting my hair yesterday. ''
And there you have it. To many people, 19lives is part of the job but styling hair is an 20 and should be rewarded.
So rapidly does the technology develop that no one can predict what may happen tomorrow. The number of 5G users in China has reached 20 percent, which leaves the people in the world (amaze). In China, operators are quick to provide continuous nationwide coverage, (ensure) users a consistent experience. They also offer flexible service packages, which delivers a beneficial result for both users and (they).
High-quality 5G networks (drive) rapid growth of mobile data traffic so far, according to Ding Yun, Huawei's executive director and president of its carrier business group. is estimated, the average data traffic per user per month will reach 600 GB by 2030. The energy consumption of wireless networks will (definite) increase a lot if energy efficiency of existing networks remains unchanged. However, has been confirmed is that Huawei has offered a comprehensive range of products and measures that address the power consumption issues of wireless networks.
Huawei has already employed low-carbon (strategy) in more than 100 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Greece, Pakistan and Switzerland, helping operators reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40 million tons. As important player in the communications industry, Huawei will continue to put green development at the center of everything it does and develop innovative ways to build (green) 5G networks worldwide than before.

Dear Sebastian,
Unlike most of the flight I've taken on this trip, the journey from Melbourne to Sydney was thankful short. One hour! It's much more hotter here in Sydney than in Melbourne, it is strange because I travel from south to north instead of north to south. Things really are upside down below the equator(赤道).
The Sydney Festival is fascinated, and I'm having a marvelous time go to all the art and film shows. It's going on all mouth, and there's so much to choose. Best of all, it's not just in one location, but all over the city, because it's a great way for me to explore Sydney.
Hope you're having as many fun in Asia!
