On the first day of the college, a professor introduced an old lady, Miss Evans to everyone. Then what Miss Evans said greatly1her classmates:" There is a huge difference between growing2 and growing up. I am eighty-seven years old now. I can just stay home and do 3difficult living a peaceful life in old age. Next year I will turn eighty-eight. And I'm getting older. Growing up means always finding chances4_change. Facing challenge and trying to make one's dream5, leaving no regret in life. "
"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she said6 "If we only dream and take no action, then we get no7. But if we plan, set a goal(目标)and take action, then8life leads a different direction. "
"We do not stop playing9we are old. We grow old because we stop playing, " said Miss Evans. "Being happy and 10 success are the only two secrets to staying young."
Goals and11can lead you to achieve more in a year than what some people will achieve in a lifetime. Read many famous12people and you will see that goals and actions play a big role in their success.
You can do much more than you think13 you believe, remember, you can achieve. You can go as long as your mind lets you.
Remember the words of Miss Evans:" It's never too14to take action. The elderly usually don't 15 for what we did, but rather for things we did not do."
Winter sports need to be in cold places Have you ever imagined one day people go to other planes to hold the Winter Olympics?
Mercury(水星)
It's the closest planet to the sun. In the daytime, the temperature can be up to 430℃. but at night it cools down to-200℃. There's one area that the sun can never reach. There's a lot of ice there. Maybe we can go speed skating and figure skating (花样滑冰) there!
Mars
The temperature on Mars is between. 140℃and 30℃. At the north and south poles of Mars, there are areas covered by ice and snow. There is also a big mountain called Mount Olympus. So maybe we can ski on Mars!
Pluto (冥王星)
Pluto is a dwarf planet far away from the sun. It's very cold there, about -229℃. There's a lot of ice. It's even harder than steel So maybe we can go sledding (滑雪械) on Pluto.
There's a small brick (砖) house I visit from time to time. It's not the house that is specia, but the person who lives inside.
I met Miss Clark about 45 years ago when she was my sister's kindergarten teacher. I remember looking into her classroom wishing I was her student. My parents told me I could start school when I was 4. However, when I turned 4 in the spring. I couldn't understand why I had to wait until September. Anyway, I was finally in Miss Clark's class--Room 3. She always created a safe place where we could be whatever we wanted to be at that moment.
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a teacher. When I graduated, I couldn't wait to invite Miss Clark to my classroom. She arrived one day, and I saw joy on my students' faces singing the same songs I sang with her as a child. As a new teacher, I was surprised at how she connected with children. For years, Miss Clark volunteered in my classroom.
Over the years we have shared in each other's ups and downs.
I am here for her now as the time to sell her house is near. I bring up boxes from her basement(地下室). We go through every painting a student has given her, every thank-you note a parent has written and her teaching aids.
On the papers of the letters, I find my own name printed in green marker. Suddenly my mind goes back to Room 3. Over 40 years ago, Miss Clark sat on a chair while my classmates and I sat at her feet. We learned about the letters and their sounds. Now, Miss Clark sits on her rocking chair, and is it at her feet. We talk for hours. I listen carefully because I know I still have more to learn from her.
Our friendship is one that neither of us expected.
Educators know teaching is a job for the development of each young student. The excellent ones never leave their students' hearts.
① I learnt about the letters from Miss Clark.
② We shared our experiences with each other.
③ I looked forward to being Miss Clark's student.
④ Miss Clark came and volunteered in my classroom.
①It might be fin to use your smartphone, but be careful. Too much screen time may be harmful to your health。
②First, it is bad for your eyes. A researcher called Sarah Hinkley says the problem comes from the blue light that the screen gives out. It does great harm to your brain and skin, especially to your eyes. So it is a good idea to take a break every 15 minutes when you are working at a computer or using a smartphone.
③Second, screen use can do harm to children's brains. A new study shows that using screens too much can affect (影响) children's brain growth. If children use screens for more than one hour a day, they might have lower levels of white matter in their brains. White matter is a key to the development of language and reading skills. So it is wise to cut down the time of children using all kinds of screens.
④Third, using screens too much will affect your sleep. According to a study, about 95% of the people between the ages of 13 and 64 use electronics before sleeping. And many people keep the screens on while sleeping, especially the young people. Doctors say that the light from those electronics at night may make you excited before you go to bed. Then it's hard for you to get enough deep sleep. So you'd better tum off smartphones, TVs, and all other screens an hour before your bedtime.
⑤To keep healthy, doctors and researchers strongly advise that you shouldn't use screes for long hours.
John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive (积极的) to say.
If a friend was having a bad day, John was always telling the friend how to look on the positive side of the situation. Seeing this really made me curious (好奇的), so one day I went up and asked him,"You can't be a positive person all the time. How do you do it?" He replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, I choose to be in a good mood. "Soon, I left to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life.
Several years later, I heard that he had a serious accident, falling of a high tower I saw him about six months after the accident. I asked him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was my daughter," he replied. "Weren't you scared?" "I asked He continued, "The nurses were great. ____But seeing the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I was a dead man. I knew I needed to take action. I told them, "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if l am alive, not dead. "
He lived, thanks to the skill if his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.
Attitude, after all, is everything. My dear friends, look at those challenges in our life with expectation and courage, then you can choose to grow, to overcome and to live!
