"No matter what he's doing or where he is, he will always stop 8 to cheer up a child if that child is having a bad day. He's the most loved one in this building," said Lori Gilreath, a reading teacher.
Mabry said he hadn't planned to do much for his milestone (里程碑) birthday, 9 he was happy the students prepared the surprise celebration.

Alex is reading a book about AI, artificial intelligence (人工智能). He finds the book a little difficult but very interesting. Though the word AI is very popular now, he enjoys reading it very much. He has learned a new idea about AI from the book.
When people ask AI a question, it answers the question in a very short time. So people may feel that AI can think and answer questions as human beings do. Before Alex read this book, he believed this, too. However, this book says it will never happen. Actually, AI only uses a lot of information to get the best answer. So when it has more information, the answer will be much closer to the perfect one. AI technologies will be clever tools for human beings to use. This book also says almost half of our jobs will be done by AI technologies in the near future. People will soon find more AI technologies in our lives, such as checking the tickets, the price, people's faces and fingers.
So, we believe that we will have much happier lives with these AI technologies around us.
Cathy Cluck teaches history at Westlake High School in Texas, the US. Because of COVID-19, Cathy had to find a new way of teaching.
"I teach American history," she told a news reporter. "One day, I thought, ‘What if I go to some historical places?'" So in May, Cathy took a road trip called the Great American Road Trip. Each day, she met her students over the video chat and taught them online from a historical place. In this way, Cathy's students learnt a lot about American history.
The trip was fun. However, it was full of difficulties, too. For example, Cathy planned to go to Boston. When she was in New York, she got the news: the situation of COVID-19 was severe in Boston. People in other cities couldn't go into the city, so Cathy had to change the plan.
Cathy's road trip took 15 days. "This is not a normal school year," she said. "I was trying to make it interesting for my students." Cathy's students enjoyed the way of learning.
"I just love it." Julia Franco, one of Cathy's students said. "The distance learning gave me a different feeling about the historical places. It made me very excited."
Now Cathy and her students all come back to school. Since COVID-19 still goes on, they may return to distance teaching and learning.
A young koala climbs up a eucalyptus (桉树) tree. But it's not trying to eat one of the tasty leaves it loves—it's trying to get away from the flames and smoke in the forest under it.
In 2019-2020, a large number of wildfires happened in Australia, destroying many of the trees koalas live in and feed on. Reports show that more than 25, 000 koalas might have been killed in these fires, as well as hundreds of millions of other animals.
After the wildfires, Koalas face many other dangers. Starvation (饥饿), dog attacks, car accidents and diseases also put them in danger. Luckily, brave people step up every day to help them.
After a big fire, a koala in Queensland carefully climbs down a eucalyptus tree towards the ground. But the lower part of the tree is till hot after fire, and she burns her paws. Luckily she is discovered by wildlife rescue organization Wildcare Australia, who've sent a team to find animals injured in the bushfire. They saw and saved the koala—now named Maddie—and sent her to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
Maddie also has burns on her nose and ears, so her caregivers put a cooling ointment (药膏) on her injuries. She's hungry, too. When a koala's in pain, it won't eat. Less than a week later, Maddie is ready for a meal. But as there are hundreds of different types of eucalyptus leaves, they must choose her meal carefully. Koalas all have their favourite. Leaves that they're not used to eating are harder for them to digest (消化), or just taste terrible. But Maddie finishes off all the leaves she's been given.
The cute koala is still at the hospital, but it won't be long before she's taking naps (打盹) in a forest instead of a hospital.
Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last very long. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (慷慨的); be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don't have to give your lunch money or your clothes, of course. Instead you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, your hobbies and interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.
Sooner or later, everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so you can understand the problem better.
But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
A. A friend in need is a friend indeed. B. To have a friend, you have to be a friend. C. No two friendships are ever exactly alike. D. These can be very valuable to a friend. E. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. F. It's usually very hard for some people to make friends. G. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly. |

My life is always filled with sadness and little joy. However, no matter what happens, I can face it . Last year, I was to enter the only key high school in my hometown. I couldn't believe the news!
Then I rushed to my home and told my parents. But my father didn't seem as as I was. He just smoking without saying a word and my mother put her head down and couldn't help crying.
I knew very well what my family like. My mother had been ill in bed for two years. We lived a hard life and I couldn't go on my schooling. I felt so upset but I could say nothing to my parents. I decided to my father with his work to support my family.
To surprise, things completely changed before the beginning of the new term. My head teacher came to my family with some money which had been raised by my schoolmates. He encouraged me, "Always a dream." With tears in my , I stepped into the school.
I have been studying hard since I entered the school. Whenever I meet difficulties, I always think of my teacher and schoolmates. I have a college dream and I must work hard for it, no matter how hard the life is. Just as a great man says, "When one door shuts, another in life."
