One year, a British expedition(探险队) got lost in the sandy ocean of the Sahara Desert. The sun was burning hot. Everyone1ran out of water. If they made a2decision, then they could all soon die.
At this time, the leader took out a3kettle and said, "I found a kettle of water in my bag. But before we4the desert, nobody is allowed to5it. "
The kettle of water became the6for everyone to cross the desert. It was passed on among the members of the team. It felt heavy.
Finally the expedition made it out of the desert and escape the hand of Death. With tears of 7, they opened the kettle with trembling(颤抖的) hands-but out poured8!
Was it a kettle of sand that really saved them in the desert? The answer is no. Their deep faith in the hope of survival(生存), like a9, had taken root and grown in their hearts. That is what led them out of the terrible situation in the end.
In fact, life has never been a real dead end for anyone. Whatever10 time you face, as long as there is a seed of faith in your heart, you will overcome it. Then someday your life will bloom(开花)and bear much fruit.
I bet you use memes(表情包) when talking to your friends on WeChat or QQ. And among-the file formats(文件格式), GIF is probably one of your favourites.
A GIF is usually a short funny video only a few seconds that repeats. The GIF turned 34 this year, which makes it old in web history. That's even two years older than the World Wide Web.
Ever since the GIF was created, it has long been overlooked(忽视). It is smartphones and social media that have brought it back to our daily lives.
According to David McIntosh from the GIF search service Tenor, the GIF does a better job of showing people's feelings than short text messages do. "Things like 'lol' (laugh out loud) aren't very expressive (有表现力的). "he told Wired.
The GIF is also a very small file format. This helped it become popular among ceUphones users. Because of its popularity, Oxford Dictionaries named "GIF" the word of the year in 2012.
In 2016, Facebook users sent more than 13 billion(十亿 ) GIFs, reported Sina News. There are even search services specifically(专门) for GIF, such as Tenor and Giphy.
lf you can't find anything you like there, just create your own GIF on apps like DECO and GiphyCam.
There is a song we all can sing—March of the Volunteers(《义勇军进行曲》). It was composed in 1935 by Tian Han and Nie Er as the theme song of the movie Children of Trouble Time(风云儿女). It was taken as the national anthem(国歌) in 1949.
We learn it at the beginning of primary school and sing it at every flag-raising ceremony(仪式). Now, there is a law to protect the song.
On Sept 1, 2017, the government passed the National Anthem Law and it took effect from Oct 1 in the same year. It stated how we should sing or play the song, requiring all Chinese to respect it.
According to the law, the song will only be allowed to play at nine situations, such as major sporting events, award ceremonies and flag-raising: ceremonies. It shouldn't be used at personal funerals(葬礼) or as background music in public places.
Moreover, the law requires Chinese to be serious when singing the song. We can neither joke about the song nor change the song's words or music. If someone breaks the law, he or she can be detained(拘留) for up to 15 days or held criminally liable(负刑事责任)
Many foreign countries also have laws for their national anthems. For example, US people should put the right hand over their hearts while singing the song. In Russia, the national anthem must be played on television and radio before the start and the end of broadcasting(节目播出).
They look like common biscuits and don't taste bad, either. But if they are made with unusual things, like crickets(蟋蟀), do you still dare to try? Three students at Abertay University in Dundee, UK, are using ground-up(磨成粉的) crickets to make biscuits. They are trying to find more sustainable(可持续发展的) food sources to solve world hunger、reported Daily Mail.
The students are using Thailand house orickets flour(粉末)About 1, 100 crickets can make 100grams of flour. The cricket flour is then mixed with eggs. butter and wheat flour(全麦面粉). Finally, it is baked to make biscuits.
Anja Sieghartsleitner is leading the study. She said that insects are a lot more sustainable than other meats.
Insects are easier to raise. They use less water and land, and produce less greenhouse gasses than cows and pigs. They also have more protein(蛋白质) than beef, chicken and pork
In fact, in a 2013 report, the Untied Nations called on more people to eat insects to beat world hunger.
Scientists have found more than 1, 900 edible(可食用的) insects. Some of these include crickets, beetles(甲壳虫), grasshoppers(蚂蚱) and cicadas(蝉).
People may not want to eat a whole cricket, said Sieghartsleitner. But if it's hidden away in flour or biscuits, then they may be more likely to accept it. Cricket flour is already for sale on the market, she added.
"If we are seeking to feed 9 billion people by 2050, then we have to change our eating behavior, "She said.

Chinese debate how much to buy
China covers large areas and has a great population.Recently, another difference between northerners and southerners became a hot one: the way they shop at markets.
It is normal for them to buy half a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0f 25 kilograms of beef at a time.
However, One may be laughed at if he does this in the north.
Also, you can buy a very small amount of fruit, such as a single apple or pear, each time in the south.
But hardly do shop owners in the north offer such service. And many fruits are sold in baskets ant boxes.
The difference could be due to(由于)the different climate.
Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there.
But the hot and wet weather in the south make southern Chinese buy just enough food for one meal or one day, or else the food may go bad.

Rangi and Papa: why it rains
This is a story of the beginning of time. It is popular in New Zealand.
In the(begin), the world was empty and everything was cold and dark. It was always night and there(be) no living things.
ThenGod of the Night made two huge beings(生命体) Rangi, "Father Sky, " and Papa, "Mother Earth. "
Rangi and Papa filled the whole worldtheir love for each other and they had many children. Each of those children(become) a god.
However, the children were not so happy. Rangi and Papa were too huge. The sunlight could not reach their(child) caves(山洞), so they had to live in the dark.
The children met and discussed what they could do to separate(使……分开)(them) parents. But none of the gods could move them.
At last, the God of the Forest used all the power he had. He pushed Rangi to the rightPapa to the left. At last the darkness went away.
Father Sky and Mother Earth felt so sad to be alone without each other. Rangi began to cry. His huge tears went down his face and became the(one) rain to fall on Earth.
