Once upon a time, a young man wanted to go to a village on business. Halfway there was a mountain. Before he left home, his family warmed him to stay calm and climb on to trees if he met beasts(野兽). In this way, the beasts couldn't do anything to him.
The young man remembered these words and began his trip.
He walked for a long time carefully and found no beasts were out there. He thought his family's worries were unnecessary. And he became relaxed as he walked. Just at that moment, he saw a large tiger running to him and he climbed onto a tree nearby at once.
The tiger roared(咆哮)around the tree and even jumped to reach the man. The young man was too scared to hold the tree and fell right on the back of the tiger. Full of fear, he had to hold the tiger tightly. The tiger thought that must be a large beast. So it was afraid and started running madly.
People on the road didn't know what happened and said, "Look at the young man. He is riding a tiger!" "Cool!" "Superman!"
Hearing these words, the young man was almost crazy "Why can't they see I'm suffering a lot? Don't they understand I am in fear and almost scared to death?" He said to himself.
Last week, some German parents who took their kids out of school early were stopped by the police at the airport. The police were making reports on students who didn't have permission (许可) to miss school.
Like many places, it is against the law to skip (不参加) school in Germany. Children over the age of 9 can't miss classes without permission from the school. But during busy travel time, some parents take their children out of school early to save money on vacations. People can often save a lot of money on flights and hotels by going at a different time than others.
Last weekend was the beginning of an important holiday period in Germany. People in charge of the schools asked the police to check and make sure that students weren't leaving for vacations before they were allowed to.
Police officers at three German airports looked for families with school-aged children. When they found them, the police pulled the families out of lines to talk with them. They wanted to find out if the parents had permission for the children to be out of school. If the children did not have permission, the police reported the families to their schools and to the government. In all, the police reported about 20 families.
These families will have two weeks to show that it was okay for their children to miss school. If they can't, they may have to pay as much as $1,200 as a fine (罚款), or receive some other punishment.
Germany is not the only place where parents have to pay fines if their children miss school. Many other countries and many of the states in the U.S. have similar laws.
The good news is that the families were allowed to go on vacation after they talked to the police. But they might have a big bill waiting for them when they get back.
A tornado(龙卷风)is a kind of strong storm with air which moves in a circle quickly. They can move over 200 miles per hour and cause a lot of damage. As they move across the land, they can easily pick up cars, trucks, and even houses, and then throw them very far. It is important to find a safe place if a tornado gets close.
A safe place could be a basement(地下室) or the lowest floor. If you are in a home without a basement, try to find a first-floor bathroom or a small room without windows in the middle of your house. You should curl up(蜷缩) into a ball and cover your head and neck with your hands.
But there are some people who actually want to get close to tornadoes. They are scientists who want to learn more about tornadoes. One of the best ways to do this is to get as close as possible to the tornado. They use special tools to measure(测量) what is happening in and around a tornado.
One special tool is called a tornado probe(探测仪) . Inside the tornado probe, there are sensors(传感器) to measure wind speed, temperature, pressure, and direction. Some probes even have cameras, so the scientists can see and understand what it's like to be in a tornado.
To be able to get these measurements, the scientists have to get a tornado probe near or into a tornado. Scientists will try to guess where a tornado will go next. Then they drive to that location and put down the probe. If they do not guess correctly, they pick up their probe and try another place. If they are right, the tornado will go near or even right over the probe. Then they take all of the measurements from the probe and use them to predict where future tornadoes may form(形成) and travel. And they can give people some warning to keep away from a dangerous tornado.
When I was fifteen years old, I became very interested in shopping.I had many things that I no longer needed at home. I knew with the help of my father, I could make money. For months and months I enjoyed myself by selling things on my dad's bank account.
On July 18th, 2015, I made my own account and began to start my own business. Things were going great and then I realized that selling things around the house wasn't enough for me.I went around to the yard sale and bought things at low prices and sold them at higher prices to make money.
Last October, I went to a yard sale that was a little bit different. A lady had many nice things to sell. Through the communication, I knew she was jobless at the moment and needed money to feed her family. I thought I could do it better and more quickly for her. So I made up my mind to help her out. She looked at me for a while and then said yes. When I gave her the money, she broke down into tears thankfully.
I know my skills could be used to help those in need and that even one small act of kindness could make a difference.
A. After that I took away some of her things and over the next month I made $ 1,500 for her!
B. So I decided to increase my business by running a re-sale shop.
C. And I decided to stop my business.
D. I went up to her and had a conversation with her.
E. I have never felt so pleased to help someone in my life.
F. After being just a buyer for a while, I wanted to sell something.
A 24-year-old boy looking out from the train's window shouted. "Dad, look, the trees are going behind!" And Dad1.
A young couple sitting nearby looked at the 24-year-old's childish behavior with pity. Suddenly he2
shouted, "Dad, look, the clouds are running with us!"
The couple couldn't resist and said to the old man,"3don't you take your son to a good doctor?" The old man smiled and said, "I did and we are just coming back from the4. My son was blind from birth. He just got his eyes today."

Thirty years ago, I fell in love with a dog called Cookie.1it was hard for me to add another mouth to feed, I never gave it a second thought.
Cookie could quickly2seeing my bags spread across the bed with my leaving on a trip. She was also good at showing unhappiness with her tail, trying to make me3.
When I came back home and wrote my stories, she4sat next to my desk and we could have conversations about where I'd been and what I'd seen. We5each other as only animals and those who love them can. I often read to her what I'd written. If she turned away to start cleaning a paw(爪子), I knew I had to improve my story.6, she didn't understand what I was really writing. But this kind of communication with her was my7of pushing a story to a higher level.
She inspired (激发) me to make up many stories and became my partner in my travels. In this way, we travelled together. Some readers may think it8to have such a relationship, but dog owners like me will know it's true and understand.
Today I am still a travel writer. My heart is broken because my friend Cookie left me forever. Like many old friends, she and I9much over the years. I miss her so much and I am also10to her for being at my side for all those years, listening and simply loving.
It doesn't matter if she never understood a word I said or that she never left our home. She was my travel partner and always will be.
