Long long ago, there were no donkeys in an ancient Chinese place named Qian. But some people always wanted to1things,so one such man brought a donkey to Qian by boat. However, he found the donkey 2there so he set it free in the hills.
Soon after, a tiger saw the strange animal. He hid behind the trees to 3it carefully.Suddenly he heard the most terrible noise, "Heehaw! Heehaw!"He was so afraid that he ran back to his house and hid.
After a while the tiger fell great 4. "I'm a tiger! I should not be afraid of any animal!" So he went back. When the donkey Saw he tiger behind it, it began to kick hard with its 5legs and hurt the tiger badly. But the tiger noticed the noisy animal only kicked behind. So the tiger jumped on it from the side and ate the donkey. This story tells we sometimes need more than one skill to win.
Sitting in the park, I could see two1racing on their skateboards. The one in front was laughing and asking the other to go2.The one behind seemed angry and he was trying hard to follow his elder brother.
It made me think of myself as a boy. I was always3with my elder brother. He was better than me at everything. I tried hard to beat him but I never could. I told myself that one day I would do it—and I would feel 4.
Then came the evening of my first victory over George. We had our final exam results and 5were excellent. At dinner I wanted to show them proudly to my6,but I waited for my brother to speak first.7 , he didn't say a word. He didn't look at us. He just 8a little bit and then went to his room.
Then an idea hit me. George had failed his exams! I was better than George! But I didn't feel happy or proud. I only felt sorry for my poor brother.9was not sweet.
I found George in his room, crying silently. I put my arms around him and said:"Don't worry. I still believe in you. You are the best." He put his arms around me."No, you're the best. The best brother in the world!"
I looked again at the boys and smiled to myself. Yes, they are competing now, but they will10:having a brother is better than winning a race.

We bought some flowers and hoped that our special gift was a success. This gift expressed our love and thanks to Miss Zhao.
A few days ago, my classmates and I were excited to hear that Miss Zhao, our head teacher, will be married next week, so we decided to prepare a special gift for her wedding(婚礼)secretly.
After discussing carefully, we formed a "special team" to plan the special task. Our classmates were divided into several groups. Then with the help of our art teacher, we spent our spare time making a video of our classmates' wishes. Some said, "Happy wedding", some made a heart with their hands and others wrote a few poems. Finally, we all stood in the shape of a heart and waved to Miss Zhao.
Today everything was finally ready. Our classmates came to the classroom early to prepare the surprise and waited to have Miss Zhao's English class. The class monitor and I were going to act as duty students to lead the teacher to the classroom. The bell rang, and Miss Zhao came in. She was led to the big screen, unaware of the surprise we had prepared.
"The peach tree beams so red; How brilliant are its flowers (桃之夭夭,灼灼其华)。" This is a famous poem from Shijing to congratulate the bride (新娘). Our video caught the teacher's attention. We took the chance to run out of the classroom, moved the flowers to the back door and showed the flowers to Miss Zhao. Her face burned with happiness, and her eyes were full of happy tears. And the process of making it would become an unforgettable memory.
a. Make a video of our wishes. b. Buy some flowers.
c. Form a team to plan the task. d. Show our surprise in class.
A:Hi, Bob. What did you do last weekend?
B: Hi, Amy. I went to Sanxingdui. It drew the world's attention on March 20th,2021.Chinese archaeologists(考古学家) that they had found more than 500 cultural relics(文 物)in six pits(坑),whichback over 3200 years. The relics include bronze-ware,gold and bronze masks and ivory.
A:Wow,so amazing! Anything more about it?
B: 12 square kilometers, Sanxingdui, which was first discoveredby local farmers in 1929, is located in Guanghan, about 60 kilometers from Chengdu. It's believed to be the of the ancient Shu Kingdom. The kingdom was a center of civilization(文明)along the Yangtze River.
A: I think the new discoveries will help to bettermany unexplained findings of Sanxingdui culture.
B: Yes, it's good to know ancient China. The new discoveries are similar tofound in 1986, as they also included bronze masks and metal trees.
A: What were they used for?
B:For sacrifice (祭祀).They also raise an important question about the of Chinese civilization. The ancient Shu civilization of Sanxingdui is regarded to be one of the earliest examples of Chinese civilization.
A: Is it one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization?
B: Yes. These new discoveries show Sanxingdui had aconnection with Liangzhu Culture in Zhejiang province which has a history of 4,300 years to 5,300 years.
A: That's very long. There are still manyareas in the ancient Chinese history and we have a long way to know our colorful culture.

Do you want to sturdy abroad? It has become a choice for more students in recent years. So what is it like? Here's some experience I can share with you.
Studying abroad can open upeyes. It is so exciting to learn different languages and experience different customs, Experiencing a different educational system is also very interesting. This helps you sec the world in a different way. As the saying goes,"It isto travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books. "
The educational experienceme a lot. I found myself fully in an English language environment. At first, it was hard a clear understanding of all the information in classes. I found that teachers and students would have lots of discussions in class. Studentsto express their opinions during lectures, an open dialog between the teacher and the class. Teachers would ask us to do many role-play exercises in class. The exercises were a lot of fun and helped me understand the knowledge our teachers were explaining.
Studying abroad is not just about studying. It also gives the chances to learn valuable life lessons and helps develop independence. For example, students could not stay in the dormitory(宿舍)for the second year, I had to move out. I went through the of looking for a place to stay, meeting with the building manager and ordering all of the services I needed to move. This experience gave me a lot of because I could deal with problems in a foreign country on my own. And it has helped me continue to be more independent.
Debating(辩论)with AI(人工智能)
Have you ever shouted at your computer because it wasn't working? AI researchers are now working on computers that can argue and perhaps even win debates with humans.
IBM scientists wrote an article in Nature on March 17 about their new AI system(系统)—Project Debater. It can debate with people independently in front of live audiences. After listening to arguments from its opponent (对手),the system can search around 400 million online articles in less than five minutes.
The system testing began in 2019 when it debated with Harish, a professional debater who holds the world record for most debate competition victories. And the AI system argued for supporting this idea. Although the AI lost the debate in the end depending on the audience's opinions, the audience said it did very well. Interestingly, 58 percent of the audience said that Project Debater increased their knowledge about the topic. Also, Project Debater made unforgettable opening in the debate, according to Scientific American.
After competing with different human debaters, the AI system's performance keeps a little lower.
"On stage, Project Debater is far from perfect, and its missteps show just how
difficult—and low human-argumentation and debate are," said computer scientist Chris Reed of the University of Dundee in the UK.
A. Your computer couldn't "shout" back—until now.
B. While only 20 percent said the same about Harish.
C. It looks for ideas that can support its own argument.
D. Humans and technology have been facing off for years.
E. The debate topic was whether or not preschool should be given money to.
F. In other words, the back- and-forth arguments in the AI system's debates don't sound like a real human conversation.
As the saying goes, "Better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off." But noisy neighbors are a common problem in a society where many people live closely together. And this can be the most important when you share walls or floors with neighbors in an apartment. A noisy neighbor can make life challenging, especially if noise goes well into night, or happens during early morning hours. This situation needs to be dealt with properly, which requires your ability lo keep calm.
You should first try to tell your noisy neighbors about the noise. This conversation should be polite, even friendly. It can begin with a sentence like"I am not sure you are aware". Explain the problem in an honest way, and ask the neighbor to turn down the music, or not to hold parties until 3 a.m. You can also add that you realize they hear your noise too,and you are certainly willing to try to stop anything in your behavior that is creating noise.
You should know that not all neighbors are going to follow your requirement, and some may act in a bad manner. If the problem continues, try writing your neighbor a letter. The letter should show your dissatisfaction and the dates when the noise was quite terrible. While it may seem formal, it may also be a clear and effective way of communicating your complaint in the least confrontational(对抗的)way.
When the noise remains going on, you should report it to local authorities(权力部门),or even the police when it is really necessary. Usually, however, the problem is solved when the noisy neighbor knows you are going to call the police.
Do be aware that you cannot always require noisy neighbors to be quiet. When the noise remains going on, it is wise not to deal with it in an angry or retaliatory(报复性的)fashion. If you have completed the steps and letter, don't start hitting walls or floors around in your home or turning up the music to make your neighbors angry. Just have patience and remember that communication is the most important.
