We often see top students around us and everyone knows about them. Let us take Jenny as an example. She is monitor of our class. She spends a lot of time working for our class, but she s gets good grades in all subjects. How do students like Jenny do that? When I asked her, she said, "Hard work is not the whole story. It's not how long you sit at the desk with your books open. It's what you do while you are sitting." Indeed, we can see many top students spend f hours on their studies than their classmates. Jenny gave me some valuable suggestions.
Studying is a matter of personal preference(偏爱), so choose the w that you are most comfortable with. Some people like working late at night when the house is quiet, while others like doing their work e in the morning. Still others like studying as soon as they arrive home from school while the work is fresh in their minds. No matter which way you use, try to do your best.
Studying is your business and business comes before entertainment(娱乐). When you are studying, phone calls should go unanswered, TV shows unwatched, snacks uneaten. Studying is the only thing in your mind. N can pull you away from what you are studying.
Studying is like e . You chew(咀嚼) it one bite at a time. You can plan what to do today, but don't do too much. When you can't finish the work you have planned to do, you may l confidence. On the other hand, you will not study well without a good plan. It all depends on how you arrange your time.
Jenny told me that most of us would be as good as her if we tried our best. Maybe she is right, so why not have a try?
Dana Cummings was in his thirties before he first went surfing. He was much older than most people who first did that. But, it's even more surprising that Dana Cummings chose to learn the sport after losing a leg in a car accident. Now, some years later, he helps other disabled (残疾的) people learn how to ride the waves.
Now Dana Cummings is on the coast of Maine. He is teaching Matthew Fish, who is partly blind, how to surf. Cummings takes hold of Fish and leads him into the ocean. Fish lies on the surfboard. He tries to stand up on it according to Cummings' directions. After a few tries, he is up and riding all the way back to land.
A car accident in 2002 took Dana Cummings' leg. He says the car crash changed him more than just physically. "Before the accident, I was just existing (存在), not living. But losing my leg makes me realize how precious life is. I must get off the couch and start living. I do more things now than before. Next week I am going to take part in a competition in Hawaii." He said.
Dana Cummings set up AmpSurf in 2003. AmpSurf is a nonprofit (非营利的) organization that holds surfing classes and events for people with disabilities. Recently AmpSurf has taken its training programs to the East Coast. Eleven students attended the class in Maine. They came from all over the northeastern United States.
Dana Cummings hopes that AmpSurf can change the way a disabled person thinks. He said, "Disabled people always consider themselves unlucky and useless, but we want them to see what they can do. Who cares that you have lost your leg or you're blind, whatever? Have fun. Just enjoy life. Take the most advantage of it."
