Years ago, while I lived in England, part of my college task (任务) was to help the children with special needs. I was chosen to 1 in a school with disabled children. The teacher asked me to 2 Nancy, a ten-year-old girl. One of3 hands could not move. At her school the teachers would think it was an achievement 4 she was able to put on her own coat. But I saw more in her. She had always wanted to put a string(线) 5 the hole of a key.
For the 5years Nancy was in the school, the teachers always 6 to help her, but always ended up doing all the work for her. I knew Nancy could do 7 , so I encouraged her to do something herself. At first Nancy often failed and got very 8 Sometimes l wanted to give up too. 9 , after a week Nancy was able to do 10 she had wanted to alone for so many years. Her teachers cried 11 when they saw the thing she was able to do with just some encouragement.
Disabled people should 12 be told they can't do this or that. With just some encouragement they can do it. The look 13 that girl's face when she was able to do it herself meant 14 to me. I hope everyone will encourage people to do all they want by themselves 15 telling them they can't do it.
Find a Job This Summer
This summer there are things that students can do to earn some pocket money or to help others. Also, many programs are offered by provincial government and its partners to help students find summer jobs. Here are a few ideas.
Deliver Newspapers
Teenagers can deliver newspapers- usually you ride a bike around a neighborhood and leave the newspaper at each house. Normally you have to have your own bike-and you have to get up early too, because people want their newspapers to read with their breakfast. If you are 15- 18 and return to school this fall, you can find jobs of this kind.
Wash Cars
It's crazy for adults to drive to an expensive car wash when they can get a teenager to do the job for less money. Wash the car well and carefully and people will want you to do it again. Then you've got customers!
Give Older People a Hand
Lots of older people are happy for teenagers to help them carry their shopping or do small things for them, like washing or keeping them company (陪伴). You earn money or not, and people in the neighborhood get your help.
Job Programs
If you are a student living in certain communities of the province, you are lucky. There are programs that provide four weeks of paid jobs along with training. After that, you can start and run your own summer business, and you have a chance of winning awards of up to$1000. Go to the government website to learn more about these programs. People under 25 could build skills, find a job or start businesses all year round.
They are all great ideas. Just choose one of them to make some money. Then spend it or save it. But don't forget it's important always to tell an adult where you are going.
Many parents make their children do chores around the house. For some families, teaching children what to do and how to do chores is easy. But in other families, getting children to do some housework can be a very big problem.
It is a good idea for parents to teach their children at an early age that all family members must work together to make the house clean, and each person must do his or her share(份) of the work. We can do this by starting a plan of chores and responsibilities when children are young.
Chores are good for children-even very young ones. Doing chores teaches children many important skills such as working together and being responsible. Jobs also teach children what is fair and doing things for others. The skills and values(价值) from doing chores will do good to children all their lives.
Helen's Cooking Diary
Tuesday, January 30. 2018
This month we had to choose a club. I waited until the last minute. Many of the activities were already full, and I decided to join the Cooking Club because at least I would get something to eat.
Tuesday, February 6, 2018
It was the first time to be here. Most people are in the club for more than a year, so they already know what they're doing. And since they all know each other, they weren't exactly interested in a new-comer.

What a terrible day! I knocked a bottle of orange juice off the table! Maybe all the other kids would never stop laughing. And it was not easy to get juice off your clothes.

One of my bright ideas worked out for a change! Everyone laughed when I handed out the chocolate "panda" cookie I made yesterday, but this time I was laughing, too. It was a great success. We're even planning to make more cookies for the school food festival next week.
It was Christmas Eve. When everyone went to bed, Bunny couldn't fall asleep. He still couldn't think of what he wanted as a special Christmas present. He wondered how Santa-Father Christmas would know what to bring him if he didn't know himself.
As he was sitting up in bed, Bunny heard a big noise on the roof(屋顶)and a sound downstairs. It was Santa Claus, he realized. Bunny jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to the stairs. He hoped to take a look at the old man before Santa left for his next stop.
By the time Bunny was at the bottom of the stairs, everything was silent again. Lots of presents were put under the Christmas tree, but Santa was gone. A little disappointed(失望的), Bunny turned to climb back upstairs when he heard a cry.
"Hello, "said Bunny." Is somebody there? "
He was answered by another cry. Bunny looked around the big pile of presents to see what was making the noise. Right under the tree was a funny looking brown animal with big feet and sad eyes. It also had antler(鹿角)on its head. Bunny almost mistook it for a dog.
"Are you a reindeer? " asked Bunny.
"Yes, "replied the brown animal with antlers." My name is Ralph. "
"And you were pulling Santa's sled(雪橇)? "
"I was until I got air-sick, "replied Ralph." Santa had to leave me here and go on with the other seven reindeer. "
"Isn't it a bit unusual for a reindeer to get air-sick? I mean, isn't flying what reindeer are famous for? "
"Not me, I'm afraid. It makes me scared. I always feel sick when it comes to flying, "replied Ralph." But everyone wanted me to pull Santa's sled, so when it was my turn I gave it a try. I'm afraid I just wasn't cut out for the job. Now I'm stuck here and I don't know how to get back to the North Pole. "
"Well, if you like, you can stay with us as a friend, "said Bunny. As he made the offer, Bunny suddenly realized the special present he wanted from Santa was a new friend!

"What happened to you? "asked Mrs. Green.
"Well," said Mr. Green, "Everything was going fine. I got my ticket, checked my luggage and waited in line at the gate. I walked across the runway to the airplane and I saw my friend Jack, who was an airplane engineer. I shouted to him and a policeman caught me. "
"Why did he catch you? ""I don't know," said Mr. Green." As soon as he heard my shout, he ran towards me and caught me."
"What did you shout to your friend? ""All I said was 'Hi, Jack'. You know that's the usual way we say hello to our friends. "
