When I was in primary school, I fell in love with reading. The books 1me to a wonderful world. The more I read, the more I wanted to know. However, my parents2afford so many books. I had to solve the problem myself.
There was a book shop near my home. One day I walked into3shop and picked up a book, I didn't know whether4there without buying any books.5I wasn't noticed, I just read a few pages and then put it back. Luckily no one noticed me. After that I went there to read every day. Several days later, while I was reading, the owner came up and asked," You like reading? "I looked down and replied6, "Yes." "Don't worry," he said with a smile. "You may read books here,7you help me clean the shop." I felt quite surprised. "really? It's so kind of you!" I was very happy that I will be allowed to read there. From then on, I spent a little time8the shop. After that, I quietly read there. That way, I read lots of books. I became one of 9writers in our school. I even won some prizes in writing.
Now studying in high school, I can borrow books10the library. My hobby of reading is kept. It will influence my life a lot.

Do you like dancing? Do you know breakdance? It is a type of street dance. It first started in America in the 1970s. Some African Americans in New York started to act this kind of dance on the street. People who watched them liked it very much. As time went by, more and more people accepted it and join in the groups of breakdancing. So it quickly became very popular. It has gone all over the world in a very short time.
A report says that there are more than a million break dancers in the world now. We have to say it is really a very large number. Lots of break dancers will feel happy because of the following news. I will never forget the very moment that caused me to leave my gift(天赋) behind because I wanted the gift that my older sister Maria had.
My family was spending a week at the beach. One morning, Maria went to the beach early, but I stayed behind to finish a drawing of a seashell. After finishing the drawing, I walked to join Maria. She was a top gymnast(体操运动员). Her show was perfect as she wheeled along the beach. The beauty of that sight made me excited, and I decided immediately that I too would become a gymnast like her.
I knew that I had never been very good at sports. However, when I told my parents I wanted to take a gymnastics class, they agreed with me in surprise. The next week, I went to a beginners' class.
If only my parents had told me this was a wrong decision! Five minutes into the first class, it was clear that I didn't have the gift of a gymnast. But I kept at it.
During this time, drawing and painting, which had been my two favorites, left my mind. It must have been hurting for my family as they watched my hopeless efforts. I blindly decided to be like Maria. I just would not give up.
At the same time, on the advice of Ms. White, my art teacher, I hurriedly handed in my seashell drawing for an art contest(比赛)in our town. One night as I was having a hard time practising, the phone rang. It was Ms. White. "Alice, you won the contest!" she said loudly.
"Really?" was all I could reply.
"Yes," Ms. White said. "They're going to give you a prize. And that's not all. The winner is also accepted into Wildale's Summer Fine Arts Institute." I couldn't believe what I heard. Only a handful of young artists were accepted each summer.
That night I didn't go back into the living room to continue practicing. Gymnastics was Maria's gift, not mine. It had taken me a while, but I realized that I had a gift of my own.

Amazon. com was one of the first companies to try to sell products on the Internet. Jeff Bezos started the company. He was a successful vice—president of a company in New York. One day he predicted the future. He thought,"The World Wide Web is growing 200 percent a year. It's going to continue to grow. Shopping is going to move to the Internet. People are going to shop online. "He gave up his good job and drove across the country to Seattle,Washington. There he started an online bookstore called Amazon. com. Bezos had very little money. The company began in a garage, and at first there were very few people who bought things.
At the Amazon. com site, people can search for a book about a subject, find many different books about that subject, read what other people think about the books, order them by credit card, then get them in the mail in two days. This kind of bookstore was a new idea, but the business grew. In a few years,Amazon. com had 10 million different things in categories including books,CDs,toys, electronics, videos,DVDs,things you use to fix up a house, software, and video games. Today you can buy anything from food to gold rings at a"virtual shopping mall",that is,a group of stores all over the world that works like group of stores all in one place.
Are people going to shop online more and more? No one knows for sure. At least online shopping is growing.
Welcome to Sunshine Town. It's a small town, but there are many clothes stores in it. Here are three of them. Let me introduce them to you. Then you can choose which one to go to.
Bob's Bargain is the cheapest store in town. Though it's the cheapest, it isn't the most popular. People don't shop there very often because quite a few people say the things there are the worst.
Blue Moon sells very good things. It sells the most fashionable clothes and the best record players. And it has the best service. However, people don't often shop there because the things there are also the most expensive. And it is far from the town center. You have to take a long bus ride.
Super Saver is the most popular store in town. The things there aren't the cheapest, and they aren't the most expensive. It doesn't have the best things, and it doesn't have the worst, so is with the service. The clothes aren't the most fashionable, but they are more fashionable than the ones at many other stores. And its location is convenient, too.
Many companies have created apps to help blind people. Microsoft created apps that can describe a photo. Huawei made an app that uses sounds to tell users if people they are talking to look happy, sad or angry. Now, Google is testing an app that will allow blind people to run alone.
Panek, CEO of Guiding Eyes for the Blind, had always loved running. But he started losing his eyesight (视力) when he was 8, and by his early 20s he was blind. Later in life, he started running with other people or a guide dog to help him. But he didn't like this way. He asked a group of experts of Google whether they could create something to help blind people run on their own.
The Google team soon created Project Guideline. The Guideline app uses a smartphone camera to recognize (辨认) a line painted on the ground. Through earphones (耳机), the app makes sounds when a person moves away from the line. The sounds get louder in either the left ear or the right ear, the further the person moves away from the line.
After trying the app, Panek used it while running outside in a park. In November, 2020, when he was 38 years old, Panek successfully ran 5 kilometers around New York City's Central Park using the app.
