When Michael Jordan was 13, his father gave him a used T-shirt and asked, "What do you think the value of this would be?" Jordan replied, "Maybe $1." His father asked, "Can you 1 it for $2?" Jordan nodded his head. Then he washed it carefully. The next day, he brought the 2 T-shirt to a crowded station. After six hours, Jordan finally 3 to sell it for $2. He took the money and ran home happily.
More than 10 days later, his father gave him a used suit 4, "Now think of a way that you can sell this suit for $20." Jordan first thought it 5 because he thought this suit was worth $2 at most.
"Why don't you 6 it first? There must be a way," his father replied.
Finally, Jordan got a(n) 7. He painted a picture of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse on the suit. Then he sold it 8 a school where the children of the rich studied. A boy liked the suit very much and Jordan 9 sold it.
When he got home, his father gave him a used shirt. "Can you sell it for $200?" This time, Jordan accepted the shirt without doubt.
Two months later, a popular 10 came to New York for her new movie. Jordan knew it and went to 11 her autograph (亲笔签名). Jordan said he liked her movie very much, so the woman was 12 to write her name on the shirt.
The next day Jordan sold the shirt for $1,200. His father was amazed and asked, "What did you learn from 13 experience?"
Jordan replied, "Where there's a will, there's a way."
His father said, "Good. But I also wanted to show you that 14 a piece of used clothing that is worth only a dollar can be increased in 15, then how about us? There is no reason for us to look down upon ourselves." From then on, Jordan felt that his future would be full of hope.

Excitement and joy could be felt as students at Legae English Medium School in Botswana (博兹瓦纳), greeted their teacher Goitseone Ishmael with the Chinese phrase "nihao" before she began her Chinese lesson. "Today we are going to begin our class with a Chinese movie," she says, and the students jump up and down with joy. Some students ask if it's about the well-known actor Jackie Chan. Finally, she manages to get them to calm down.
Ishmael started her job as a Chinese teacher in 2022. Now she teaches around 350 students in 14 classes every week from Standard 3 to Standard 6. As a Chinese teacher, Ishmael has her main teaching work done like teaching Chinese songs and how to make paper cutting or lanterns. "Teaching a language is really interesting and kids always want to learn more, such as the Chinese culture and food. They even ask a lot of questions during my lesson like what the thing they like is called in Chinese," she says, adding that most of the students have dreamed to visit China one day.
The 33-year-old teacher encouraged people to consider a job in the Chinese language. "It is not only for communication, it will open another chance for them. There are different kinds of jobs that one can do after learning Chinese like working as a Chinese language teacher, a translator or an interpreter (口译员)," she says.
Since large number of students had shown a great interest in Chinese, Basel Ncaagae, head of the school, says their school carried out a full-time Chinese language study program called Confucius Classes in 2018. Kids learn how to greet, count numbers, introduce themselves in Chinese. Kids also take part in competitions like the Chinese Bridge where the winner gets a chance to travel to China.
It's always easier to say "Yes" because most of us want to please other people. Somebody asks you to go for a party but you have tests the next day, or to help them although you are busy at the moment, or to join the activities you have no interest at all! Even though your heart is crying NO, you find the word "Yes" come out of your mouth. However, it usually results in anger – not only for the person who asked you, but also for yourself for not being strong enough.
Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee. Actually, she usually ended up having 20 coffee meetings a week and that stopped her from doing business because she didn't have time to do her own work.
Messenger finally learned to refuse like "No, I'm sorry, but I don't have time." She believes if you say "Yes", you will regret later. Or your heart will be filled with guilt (内疚), fear or anger because you feel bad for agreeing to do something you never want to. So you need to be brave enough to say "No" when you're asked at first.
Janine Garner, CEO of The LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time. Garner said, "We may end up saying 'Yes' because we feel sorry for somebody who needs us. But we end up having that awful feeling in our heart. You can only achieve the best of you by stopping doing the things that take up your time and don't add anything towards your goals. Take a good look at the time spent on others, that you really should spend on yourself."
Facial recognition (脸部识别) cameras are everywhere, including in your smartphone. Many people use this technology to unlock their phones, open doors or pay quickly, but there is a problem – everyone is wearing masks. What a hassle!
Now, the companies have improved their technology. Facial recognition technology can now know people even if they are wearing a mask. Beijing-based tech company Hanwang has announced a software (软件) which can correctly recognize 95 percent of people wearing masks, Engineering & Technology (E&T) reported. What's the secret? It's all about your eyes. Marios Savvides, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, US, studies facial recognition technology. As we get older, he said, our faces change shape, but not the area around our eyes. It stays the same – even if we put on weight.
Facial recognition software is about more than just unlocking your phone. It's about public safety. For example, you don't need to take an ID card, which can be lost or stolen. It also means that virus (病毒) isn't spread by touching things, said NEC's Shinya Takeshima. "Touchless check has become very important to COVID-19," he said to Reuters. "We hope to do something for safety and peace of mind."
More than that, facial recognition can be used to fight crime. "It can tell criminals and terrorists," said Huang Lei, one of Hanwang's leaders. Hanwang's technology is used by police in high-security (安全等级高的) settings. This means places like government buildings, subway stations and airports. Similar technology is used by the United States Air Force and other governments.
Huang talks about one big weakness of this technology. "It fails when people wear both a mask and sunglasses. In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost," Huang said to E&T.

A special house in London has been called "the invisible (隐形的) house". Its huge mirror (wall) reflect everything around it, making it very hard to notice.
Located on the busy A316 Road, London's Invisible House isn't a piece of art, but a real home. The family say that living there is (interesting) than living in the ordinary houses, people can't see inside, the owners can see outside quite clearly. They sometimes see people fixing their hair or clothes in their mirrored walls.
"Our designer, Alex Haw, came up the idea of the mirror," the owners told My London. "The mirror would make the house ‘talk with its environment'. It's interesting (see) the trees and clouds reflecting onto the house. We really like the idea and enjoy living here."
A photo of this invisible house (recent) became hot online, leaving people with many unknown questions. Some people (wonder) how much effort the owners put into keeping the mirrors clean all the time. One man said, "I've lived here for 10 years and have driven past it more times than I could count and have never noticed . Does anyone know anything about it? I've tried searching it and no information can (find) about it." Personally, I wonder about the material used to make house invisible. I guess all the mystery is part of its charm.
Some Ways for a Happier Life
Here are some scientifically proven but simple ways to get happiness.
★ Whether lending a hand or offering a handout, giving to others can make you feel better. ★Keep a diary. It's really good to write down your feelings. Little things like a nice cup of tea, watching a pretty bird in the garden or a phone call from a friend are worth thanking, according to Californian researchers.
★Go outdoors. Lots of studies have found being outside makes you feel relaxed. If it's a green space, even if it's just your local park, that's better still. According to a University of Sussex and LSE study, researchers asked people to number their happiness levels on an app and being by the sea on a warm weekend day came out top.
