There was a woman in Detroit, who had two sons. She was worried1them, especially the younger one, Benm because he was not doing well in school. Boys in his class2jokes about him because he seemed so slow.
The mother decided that3herself would have to get her sons to do better in school. She told them4to the Detroit Public Library to read a book once a week and do a report about it for her.
One day, in Ben's class, the teacher held up a rock and asked5anyone knew it. Ben6his hand and the teacher let him speak. "Why did Ben raise his hand?" They wondered. He never said anything. What could he possibly wan to say?
Well Ben not only knew heck, by also said a lot about it. He named other rocks in is group and even knew where7teacher had found it. The teacher and the students were8. Ben had learned all this from one of his book reports.
Ben later went to the top of his class. When he finished high school, he went to Yale University and at last became one of9doctors in the United States.
After Ben grew up, he learned something about his mother10he did not know as a child. She, herself, had never learned how to read.
Nowadays many people get used to wasting things, especially young people. In the school, waste can be seen1. Some students ask for more2than they can eat and others often forget to3the lights before they leave the classroom.
Waste can bring a lot of problems. Someone says China is4in some resources, such as coal, oil, trees and so on. Some people even say"How rich our country is!"But actually we will have no coal or oil to5in 100 years if we go on wasting. We really feel6about what we can use in the future. We can't imagine how we can go on living without these resources. Think about it7. I think we should say "no" to the8who waste things every day.
In our daily life,we can do things to stop waste from happening. For example, we should tun off taps9using them. Don't throw the used paper because we can recycle it. Let's start out small from now on.
Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day if we do10best. The nature will be more harmonious(和谐的)and our country will become more and more beautiful.

Do you want to live a happier life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world.
Many doctors are interested in the effects of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study, laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%. They think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai,India,in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. ""Everyone's naturally good at laughing. We want people to feel happy with their lives,"says Dr. Kataria. There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
So,what happens at a Laughter Club? I went to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class,to be honest-I didn't like laughing with a group of strangers. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say" ho ho ho, ha ha ha" while looking at each other. Although our bodies can't tell the difference between fake(假的)laughter and real laughter, they still have the same healthy effects.
After ten minutes, everybody in the room was laughing genuinely(真诚地), and some people just couldn't stop laughing! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!

Today we had a very special English class. Our teacher Miss Yang us five minutes to talk about birthdays in groups. Five minutes later, she asked us to answer her questions one by . I was the first one to be called. First she asked me, "When is your birthday?" I my birthday clearly. So I was very happy to answer, "It is on March the fifth." I answered so as to make all my classmates know it. Then she asked me the question, "When is your friend's birthday?" I knew my best friend, Lily, was born on May 2nd. Then, she asked about my favorite singer's birthday. I told her my favorite singer was Jackie Chan. His birthday was April the seventh. At last, Miss Yang asked me, "When is your mother's birthday?" My turned red. I didn't know my mother's birthday. How shameful I I could remember my best friend's birthday, my favorite singer's birthday, but I didn't know my mother's birthday. I thought I would forget this lesson. Miss Yang, thank you for telling us something important in a special way.
Have you heard of 5G? These new networks are just coming. This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster. It will also deeply change our lives.
5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download a movie in seconds using 5G. Also, VR games will become more popular with 5G. The short delay(缓冲)of 5G will make the games feel even more real.
5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals to each other. They also
"talk" to traffic lights and road sensors(传感器). 5G will allow cars to react(反应)even faster than human drivers.
5G also makes the Internet of Things(IoT, 物联网)possible IoT is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smart homes are part of it. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could order eggs online when it notices that there are no eggs left inside.
All in all, 5G will shape every type of technology that it touches. And you won't have to wait too long for that to happen.
