One day I was walking around in a national park when I saw a beautiful tarantula (狼蛛) crossing a path. I just stopped and decided to observe its walking.
Behind me there was a family going up the same way and they also noticed the tarantula. Without doubting it, a kid shouted, "Quick, Dad, kill it." His brother also encouraged their dad to do that.
Then I stopped their dad. "Wait. This is the last place the tarantula has to live in. Do you really want to kill it?"
"Well, it's dangerous and we have kids here…"
"Why not stand still and let it cross safely? Then you can go and admire the rest of the park. "
After some discussions I persuaded them to stand still and watch. Soon, the tarantula crossed and hid into the bushes.
Their dad thanked me and said, "You're right. I was about to make a mistake." The children even said good bye to the tarantula and they learned something too.
Giorgio Lo Porto posted a video on Tik Tok about his new neighbor and their common piano talent! The post showed the cooperation of playing out music at the same time with two pianos separated by one wall.
Giorgio's neighbor's name was Emil, who was 78 years old. Emil's wife had passed away in December. The only comfort left to Emil was his piano. He spent days alone at home because of gloom, only looking forward to playing his wife's favorite piano song every night.
When Giorgio heard the music coming from the other side of the wall, he could really feel how moved the old man was. My folks bought their first house in the early 1940s after Dad got a better job in Marquette, Michigan. We lived just inside the city limits in what was still a rural area.
In the spring of 1948, when I was 6 years old, my parents bought a calf (小牛) to replace our cow, which had been killed the year before. So one day we drove to a local farm and returned with a white and brown calf we named Tubby.

I hadn't lived on a farm like my mother, so I didn't understand that what happened to Tubby was not unusual. Livestock aren't meant to be pets, and most farm kids know and accept that truth.
Whenever we had beef for dinner, I would tearfully, "Is this Tubby?" This went on for a couple of weeks until Dad had finally had enough and declared, "No more cows!" That made me feel a little better about poor Tubby.
