In the past few years I have had many difficulties while trying to learn English, but I have got over(克服)them and made a lot of 1.
The spelling of words and the meanings of them were the first difficulties I met 2 a beginner, but I have found my own ways to 3them. As for spelling, I never write a new word over and over again to memorize it, but I try to practice its 4. Now, I can spell a word out 5 I read it out. As for meanings, I like to put a word into a 6 to learn its meaning. If I quite 7 use a word, both its spelling and meanings will not be difficult to remember. After all (毕竟), learning English is to 8 it.
Grammar 9 another difficulty. But I have dealt with it, too. I often 10 lots of time reading the English articles. By doing so, I have got a good sense(感觉) of English.
Finally, I want to say that learning English takes time and hard work.
Many Western countries celebrate Easter. This holiday is always on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. It celebrates the beginning of new life. Hens lay eggs, giving birth to life, so an egg is a symbol of new life. A popular activity during Easter is to hide eggs around your home or garden for friends or relatives to find. These can be real eggs, but they are more often chocolate eggs. Not only do people spread them around in different hiding places for an egg hunt, but they also give out these treats as gifts. So just like Christmas, Easter creates good business for supermarkets and chocolate stores.
When British and American people invite you for a meal, it's useful to know these things.
Dinner parties usually start between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and end at about 11 p.m. Ask your hosts what time you should arrive. It's polite to bring flowers, chocolates or a bottle of wine as a gift. And you can say how much you like the room, or the pictures on the wall. But remember —it's not polite to ask how much things cost.
Usually dinners start with drinks and snacks, or probably start with soup or something small, and then you'll have meat or fish with vegetables, and the dessert, followed by coffee. It's polite to finish everything on your plate and to take more if you want.
Did you enjoy the dinner? Call your hosts the next day, or write them a short "thank you" letter. British and American people like to say "thank you, thank you, thank you" all the time.
It was a dark and cold night. When a taxi driver went by the railway station, he saw a young man coming out with two bags in his hands. So he quickly opened the door of the car and asked, "Where do you want to go, sir?"
"To Star Hotel," the young man answered. When the taxi driver heard this, he didn't feel happy. He knew the young man could give him only three dollars because the hotel was not far from the railway station. But suddenly, he had an idea. He took the passenger through many streets of the big city.
After a long time, the car arrived at the hotel at last. "You should pay me fifteen dollars," the driver said to the young man. "What? Fifteen dollars! Do you think I'm a fool(傻瓜)? Only last week, I took a taxi from the railway station to this same hotel and I only gave the driver thirteen dollars. I know how much I have to pay for the trip. I won't pay you one dollar more than I paid to the other taxi driver last week."
You visit a park one day and someone nearly hits you while riding his bike. You feel like you've experienced this thing before. This strange feeling is in fact quite common. It's known as" deja vu"(似曾相识).
How can we explain this? In one study, scientists used the video game the Sims(《模拟人生》游戏) to study deja vu. or example, they took the place of the bushes(灌木丛)in the game's garden with cans. When players looked at the garden, they experienced a sense of deja vu, though there weren't any of those low thick plants but cans.
Scientists think deja vu might be explained as a simple failure of memory. We see something that looks similar to something we've seen before, but our brains fail to find the exact memory. However, the brain still knows the similarity.
According to the scientific American survey, more than two thirds of the population experienced deja vu at least once. About a third of people, especially those between the ages of 15 and 25, have experienced this experience more than once. In people's reports, deja vu for the first time appeared between 6 and 10 years old.
Should we be worried when we experience deja vu? As long as it doesn't influence our daily life, researchers think there is no need to worry. In fact, some scientists believe that it might be helpful. They believe deja vu might be caused by the brain changing misplaced memories. This could show that our memories are working well. This also explains why more younger people are possible to experience it, as their brains are still growing.
