Mr. Smith is old. He has taught math in a middle school1thirty years ago. He works hard and always comes to his office on time. He hopes his students will be honest and he is2with them. Some of his students have become famous person, but they still3him and often write to him.
This term he begin to teach Grade 1. Some of the new students were told about him, but4didn't know about him. On the first day of school he told the students how to be an honest person.
He gave them some5and said, “I don't like telling lies.” Before the class was6, he told his students to finish Exercise 6 in Lesson 1 after class.
The next morning Mr. Smith came into the classroom and asked, “7has finished Exercise 6?” A few students8their hands. He shook his head and said, “open your workbooks and see9there's Exercise 6 in Lesson 1.”

This is a true story that happened in my childhood. One day, I was trying to catch a butterfly(蝴蝶) in a garden. I tried many times to catch it but couldn't succeed.
Just then a man came and asked me, “Why are you trying to catch this butterfly?” I said innocently(天真的), “I like it.” Hearing this he held my wrist(手腕) hard. “You're hurting me.” I said with tears in my eyes. “So you feel pain,” he said with a mischievous(不怀好意的) smile and held my wrist more tightly更紧的). “Why are you doing this to me? I'm hurting,” I said and started crying. “I want you to feel the pain you are trying to impose(强加于) on the butterfly.” He said and then released(放开) my wrist. “If you caught the butterfly, you would hurt it as I did hurt you. So don't do this and let it go.” He kissed me on both cheeks, patted me on the head and went away. So I didn't catch the butterfly anymore.
Since then whenever I want to do something bad or I refuse to help a needy person, I think, “What if it happen to me?” Then I stop all my bad actions and do the right things.
There is an old Chinese saying, “If someone gives you a little drop of water, you should return a spring of water.” That means if someone helps you a bit, you should remember it and thank them gratefully(感激地) in return.
We should live in a world of gratitude(感恩). We should prove it with actions, not just words. We thank people who hurt us, because they teach us important things. We thank people who give us up, because we learn how to be independent. We thank people who are selfish, because we learn the importance of being kind. Of course, we should thank people who help us. We should thank people who teach us. We should thank people who care about us.
We thank our parents. They work hard all the time in order to give their sons and daughters a better life. They cook meals for us, they do the chores for us, they always give us food and clothes, they teach us what is right and what is wrong. We thank our teachers who give us dreams. They teach us a lot of things but they ask for nothing from us. We are well-educated because of them.
There are a lot of people that we should be thankful to in our life. We should find a way to thank them.
When you are feeling unhappy or forget how great you are, these are six ways to make you feel good about yourself.
u Look in the mirror and say to yourself, “I am a special person and there's no one in the world like me. I can do anything!” It may not sound so good, but it really works!
u Do something nice for someone. Helping others always makes you feel good.
u Smile! Be friendly to people you meet. Look for the good things in your friends and family.
u Learn something new! Have you always wanted to decorate (装扮) your own room or learn how to swim? Go for it! New challenges are fun and give you a sense of accomplishment when you have finished.
u Read and start a diary. Turn off the TV and let your imagination fly! Write down your thoughts, dream or anything you want! Writing always helps to express your feelings.
u Stay with your family. We all need our family time. Talk with your mum or dad or maybe even your cousin.
