"I'm going to fail! "My best friend cried. She and I had this conversation almost every day while we were in high school.
The truth was that my friend never failed in any subjects. I just think that she can't accept failures because she lives her life as a perfectionist(完美主义者). What she fails to understand is that a lot of good can come from failures.
For example, failure can help build relationships. Once I was cooking dinner for a friend. I was tired, and several dishes I tried to make turned out bad. I grew more and more upset until my friend told me that I shouldn't worry. She cared more about our friendship than the dishes. That day, I learned that failure doesn't always make people dislike you. In fact, after she said those words to me, I grew closer to her.
Failure can make success ever more exciting. Every few years there would be an important test in the PE class at our school. Students had to run a mile within eight minutes. I was never good at running, so I failed every time until the third year at school. Then I began working out regularly, and yet I still failed that year. A few days later, however, the teacher gave me and some other students another chance to run and I got a pass finally! You can't imagine how excited I was after that. I felt the memory of the success was as sweet as honey, because I had to overcome failure to reach it.
Now it's clear to see that failure can teach us good lessons. It's not an end—it can be a beginning.
Too much screen time for kids can lead to poor health, the American Heart Association (AHA) says. A scientific statement published by the AHA in the medical journal Circulation said screen time from smart phones, tablet computers and other devices can lead kids to a sedentary(惯于久坐不动的) lifestyle, increasing the possibility that they grow up as overweight or obese(肥胖的).
The AHA is the latestorganization urging parents to limit how much time their kids spend in front of screens. It recommends children get one to two hours of screen time each day. Although television viewing among children and teens has dropped, the use of smartphones and tablet computers has surged.
"Although the mechanisms(机制) linking screen time to obesity are not entirely clear, there are real concerns that screens influence eating behaviors, mainly because children don't notice when they are full when eating in front of a screen," said Tracie Barnett, a researcher at the INRS-Institute Armand-Frappier Research Centre, in a statement.
Barnett, one of the authors of the statement, also urges parents to keep screens out of kids' bedrooms, raising the fear that too much screen time can affect sleep.
Many studies have warned about the potential(潜在的) negative effects of too much screen time. Last year, a study from researchers at San Diego State University (SDSU) found nearly half of teens who spent five or more hours in front of screens every day experienced long periods of hopelessness or sadness.
Apple, who makes the iOS mobile platform, plans to introduce new tools to devices to help users cut back on screen time. As for iOS 12, iPhones will include a screen time feature where users can control and review how they spend time on their mobile devices. Another company that makes the Android(安卓)platform will introduce "digital well-being" tools such as screen time limits and a "wind down" option to encourage users to put down their phones before bed.
Everyone wants to perform well at school. Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!
I cannot stress how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worth adding. Pay attention during class.
Taking notes is important. You don't need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on the board, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.
Don't skip school. You will be missing out on(错失) stuff. However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It's most likely that your teacher won't appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.
If you have an" I don't care about school or this class" attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems. The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. Try not to laugh when other students make mistakes.
Always ask questions. If you don't understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc.
A. Be prepared.

It was a dark night. Thick, dark, gray clouds had made sure that there was no starlight or moonlight to1me as I walked out of my porch(门厅). Still, I kept the porch light off because I didn't want to be 2 by bugs and moths(飞蛾)on this sticky 3evening. I stood there for a while letting my eyes adjust to the lack of 4.
It was then, though, that I saw them. First one blink of light at the far end of the 5followed by another and then another. I 6. I recognized them at once as my firefly(萤火虫)friends, my lightning bug buddies who always 7 this time of the year.
When I was little I used to sit in the grass and watch them 8 fly around blinking on and off. I never9and put one in a jar as some kids did because I never wanted to hurt these messengers of light. Their time on this earth was so 10 as it was. I tried to enjoy them each night they were here. It always 11 me when they disappeared(消失) in the fall and it always made my heart sing when they 12 the next summer.
We are like them in a lot of ways. Our 13 here on earth is short. Often our light of love is more like on and off blinks rather than a 14 shine. Still, we do our best to share it and take 15 in knowing that others will be shining their light long after we are gone.
